eBay Makes Listing on Desktop as Difficult as on Mobile

Dear Ina,
I think more publicity needs to be given to the new eBay unified listing experience tool. We need a unified pushback as sellers to this horrible update.

Basically eBay is forcing the use of a phone app on desktops! It is rushed with distracting popup boxes that take you out of the work flow and just adds about 3x more clicks of a mouse to accomplish anything.

Photos are a disaster since every one comes up in a new box to edit.

Shipping section is impossible, and in general it ruins the whole reason that professional sellers use a desktop instead of a phone to list.

They are hell bent on getting rid of the actual listing tool that works for a one-size-fits-all disaster like they usually do! Please get the word out that we all need to fight back.

If this unusable listing tool is forced on us in 2 weeks like they said, it will seriously hamper out ability to list on eBay and realistically is one more reason to move listings to other platforms.

As if managed payments was not bad enough for sellers, now they are destroying our ability to efficiently list on the site now.
I'm confused.
Chris

I honestly believe eBay's site designers are students in a community college somewhere in India and none of the students or the teacher have ever bought or sold anything online before.

This has not forced on me yet but I went over to eBay's Community Discussion boards and read the comments about it and wow.  Another hot mess.

There is no end to the busy work.  I have said this many times: EBAY'S HOUSE WILL NEVER BE BUILT.  Always remodeling, never getting it right, always forcing sellers to adapt to the latest new shiny object.  And ALWAYS creating lots of busy work and lots of tech glitches.

I don't know if it is due to stimulus checks or pure coincidence but my sales on Poshmark have skyrocketed recently.  It takes me very little time to list my items on Poshmark.  In the past month my sales have been much better on Poshmark than on eBay.

Guess where I will be spending my time listing?  Right now my web site and Poshmark are my priority sites.

eBay OVERCHARGES the amount of TAX that they TAKE when you send buyers an invoice! How come no one is addressing this thievery (no other word for it)? I had gone to send an invoice to one of my buyers and the total amount of tax was multiples of what it should be. I have free shipping. So there can be no excuse as to shipping charges being taxed, as well. Calling eBay led to no resolution: '' ... we will look into it ... it's ongoing ... seems to be a glitch... etc ... '' - the usual excuses for ANY eBay problem encountered. Meanwhile, I can't send an invoice, can't get paid. A buyer getting an invoice with exorbitant tax charged, improperly calculated, would no longer be a buyer. Plain and simple.  It's been happening ever since Seller Hub has been introduced.  Coincidence, or just another method of, basically, fleecing their sellers/buyers. I guess it does add to their bottom line and I also guess, to eBay that is ALL that matters.

I have made a valid attempt to use the new listing tool and here are my findings.

This has been tested on laptop which is where I always list and will always list. I am not alone and there are many, many sellers that list with a computer.

1. Everything requires 2 extra clicks - 1 extra click to open the box and 1 extra click to click done.

2. As much as we do not like item specifics, only the required show. You have to go through the same extra 2 clicks to add extra item specifics.

3. I could not find a way to delete photos while creating the listing.

4. The advanced editing in item description has disappeared. There is therefore no way to change the font, font size or add bullets. Perhaps it would be possible to add them in HTML for those who are techy.

5. Problems with shipping options especially for Canadians using cross border shippers. As a Canadian shipping to the US and since I can only ship 2x week, I choose Standard shipping from outside US for US shipping. This is only possible if you DO NOT enter your package dimensions. If you enter the package dimensions you cannot choose this option. Not entering package dimensions causes a big problem with returns because if ebay sends the label, they will charge you for a Priority label instead of a First Class label.

I did not provide this information yet to ebay as I quickly clicked out of the new listing tool and did not rate. But if I had to rate it would be a 0.

This does not simplify anything. It makes things more time consuming. And the fact that we will have no choice to use a tool that slows us in the selling process will only hurt ebay as we will list fewer items each day.

At the very minimum, sellers should have a permanent choice to continue to use the old listing tool. If the development team at ebay was testing this with a desktop computer, they would see how much time it wastes.

This is exactly why I started listing through a 3rd party site back in 2004. I can't remember exactly what eBay did to make me do this but I started with Ranchoweb & eventually changed to Auctiva in 2006. I did leave Auctiva briefly when they lost their friggin' minds & were going to charge exorbitant monthly fees but returned when they came to their senses.
It is the best $200 per year I spend. I am not even using 1/2 of the space I am allowed for photo storage & my listings are there until I delete them manually. That saves a lot of time when you find the exact same item some time down the road. Snap a few photos if you happened to have deleted the photos & it is ready to post.
It is too bad eBay sellers could not pull off what the Auctiva users did back in 2010 (I think) when they went insane. There was a mass exodus & the head guy had to come crawling to former users saying that he had screwed up big time. He said the prices would go back to $9.95 per month if we rejoined the site.
The prices have increased but it is still worth every penny at least to me.

I started a listing from scratch last week (I usually do ''sell similar'') but couldn't find this ''fun'' new way to list. Sounds like a freaking nightmare if you ask me!!!
