The eBay world is in total chaos today for those people who buy and sell in the collectibles categories. eBay investors should be extremely alarmed about the changes made last night to the collectibles categories. Call it the Monday night massacre.
Most of the collectibles categories, that have been refined and tweaked for over two decades, with the help of countless collectibles experts, have been eliminated. Wiped out.
For example, there used to be "Collectibles > Photographic Images > daguerreotypes." Now it's just "Collectibles > Photographic Images > photographs."
There used to be:
Shop by Category
Vintage & Antique (Pre-1940):
- Cabinet Photos
- Magic Lantern Glass Slides
- Photo Albums
- Other Antique Photographs
Now it all been dumped into "photographs." This is insane. Someone at eBay must have convinced the eBay executives that with AI there is no need for so many categories. That is so very wrong. Most of my bookmarked searches that I have spent 24 years creating don't work anymore.
Another example is that postcards had many categories, including one for every state. Now there are only two postcard categories: topographical and non-topographical. The postcard buyers and sellers can't believe it.
What they have done is by far the biggest mistake that eBay has ever made! Read the posts on the eBay community boards, such as this one. The furor is just starting as people discover what was done last night. Be sure to scroll down past the pinned posts.
