Scammed after Turning to eBay for Wall Street News

Dear Ina,
Not sure if you have heard of this scam. I ordered the Wall Street Journal through an eBay seller. 1-year subscription for about $80.

The seller signed me up for a 12-week trial (about $1). By the time I realized, the eBay complaint window had closed and PayPal completely screwed up the complaint and closed the case.

It's a pretty simple scam and very easy to pull off for some quick money. If the seller sells 100 subscriptions, they can make several thousand dollars with almost no risk.
Chris

How did Paypal screw the case up? Just call them.
Second, assuming you paid with a CC through Paypal, dispute the charge.

Chris, you would have filed the case with PP, how could they [PP] screw up what you filed?

I'm not sure how Ebay could know this seller is doing this either unless there is something stated in their listings, which wouldn't be likely.  It will take buyers reporting this seller to Ebay to get attention to it.  I know you can't file a claim as it is too late, but you still can contact Ebay and let them know what is going on.

I didn't know sellers could sell subscriptions through Ebay? Or buyers could buy subscriptions. the OP can get the $1 subscription through NYT website.  It's only for 4 weeks, but what I do is subscribe (for example, WAPO) for $1, and cancel before they charge my card for the next month.  Then I wait a few days or weeks and they send me the $1 offer again.
