Dear Ina,
I wanted to respond to an article that eBay blocks sales of masks

I am so mad that sellers continue to sell a box of masks on eBay for over 200. It has not stopped if you type in 1860 mask em you will see.

Its no big deal. Amazon still has thousands of them for scapers prices. Neither Amazon or Ebay care. They like to give lip service to their sellers as it makes most of them feel good. Their are people our there that will pay these prices. No big deal either. If you want something that bad, HEY THIS IS AMERICA PAY THOSE PRICES.

Type in First Responder and you will get over 2000 hits for health kits filled with blood pressure gauges, bandages, masks, etc.

Where there's a will there's a way. So sad.

Keep in mind eBay BANNED the sale of masks and sanitizer back on March 5th, and news media and government officials continue to cite eBay's supposed ban on those items.

Yesterday ECB posted about eBay's Partner Network's letter to members, where EPN also reiterated eBay's supposed ban on these items:

~~~~~~~~
''As of March 5, eBay US, IT, CA, and FR HAVE BLOCKED ALL NEW LISTINGS AND REMOVED EXISTING LISTINGS THAT SELL HEALTHCARE MASKS, HAND SANITIZERS AND GELS, AND DISINFECTING WIPES.
This is to comply with regulatory restrictions and protect consumers from unfair pricing behaviors exhibited by some sellers.
We will also remove other commodities such as toilet paper and bleach if prices become disproportionately high.''
~~~~~~~~
Clearly THERE IS NO BLOCK.

This ban appears to be a complete farce, as new listings continue to pop-up and get sold on an ongoing basis (and @askeBay's Twitter social support team is deluged with complaints from ticked-off consumers).

That said, items that get manually reported by consumers do appear to be getting removed, and eBay just yesterday added a ''Price Gouging'' item reporting option.

It seems eBay is content to maintain the PR spin of the so-called ''ban'' while encouraging irate consumers to spend hours on eBay clicking around having thousands of Promoted Listings and third-party PLA's surfaced to them as they do so.

Meanwhile, eBay sales of banned masks and sanitizer appear to continue largely unabated by these manual exceptions.

Q: Where is eBay's ''Amazing'' Artificial Intelligence and ''Magnificent'' Machine Learning in all this?

eBay apparently can't even figure out how to pull masks appearing in a simple ''N95'' manual search, let alone listing games some sellers are playing. It's embarrassing for eBay's supposed high-speed AI & ML tech.

IDK, if some idiot wants to pay $50 for a paper mask, then let them.

I occasionally have respirator masks to sell and had 3 listings due to go live on March 21st at 3am Central. I didn't have any masks to sell (and eBay also currently has the ban in effect), but I was attempting to edit the listings to push back the start date so they wouldn't go live.

The problem was that eBay's system was preventing me from editing the listings, so there was nothing that I could do.

I called eBay and was passed on to a supervisor who told me not to worry that they won't go live, but that they might get deleted, and to take screen shots in case they were.

Well they went live and all 3 listings sold out within 15 minutes. I had to cancel all 5 orders and, of course, a consequence of that was that I was awarded 5 defects for cancelling transactions for being out of stock.

I emailed eBay (since their phone support is no longer active) to remove the defects and the agent apparently removed them, although they are still visible on my dashboard.

My three listings might also be lost, because I can't reschedule them and I will have to recreate them from scratch, including pictures, unless this ban is reversed.

This was a waste of my time and a source of unnecessary stress.

Does anyone wonder why eBay has taken such a determined stand to ban almost ALL items associated with Covid-19--while Amazon is selling ONLY items that would be useful for treating the virus? How could two of the biggest on-line selling platforms be at such opposite ends of the spectrum on this issue?

Has Amazon all of the sudden decided to be altruistic in its listing choices--has eBay?   Heck, no--the illusion of choice, and the dichotomy between the two platforms--it's just a planned distraction--one of many being foisted on the American public right now.  A contrived provocation--designed to simply divide us, manipulate our opinions, and force us to choose sides in what is, essentially, a non-issue.

To keep us, for one thing, from realizing how little EITHER company is doing for its sellers. If they can point our focus toward other diversions, waste our time by turning us against each other (for instance--encouraging sellers to report fellow sellers for violations), that is all the less time we will have to focus on THEM, and THEIR shortcomings right now.

Did you happen to wonder why eBay would put out such a convoluted, ridiculous, confusing, and stupid fee deferral plan?  Why they waited four days to unveil it, while we all--what?  Wasted countless amounts of time speculating, debating, hoping--waiting with baited breath--for a helping hand from our trading partner. What a surprise--after all that anticipation and build-up, they sent out a turd.  Don't be surprised at the next big announcement--it's coming--anything to keep us as stressed, and preoccupied as they can.

In the end, as we busy ourselves debating our little straw-man arguments among ourselves--over such useless topics as: who should be selling masks, and how much should they be allowed to charge--the mega-corporations just keep on doing what they do best-- robbing us blind while we waste our time, energy, and focus, fighting among ourselves.

Need further proof that ''they'' don't care about you?  Look up the Senator who warned his donors a month ago, in a recorded conversation, that this virus was going to be bad, and that they needed to get ready--meanwhile, not bothering to warn the general public, nor his constituents.  Sad--but not really that much different than what transpires on eBay.  The company that promised to work towards your best interests--could also care less if you drop dead--as long as the right palms are being greased and shook. Scary times--they don't even bother to hide their disdain for us anymore.

Like George Carlin famously said, ''It's a big club, and you ain't in it.''

Hold on--it's going to be a bumpy ride--all the way down.

Etsy sells face masks.  Also, there are fashion designers making face masks.  You cannot take a necessary item down from your site when it can be sold elsewhere.  The designers can take their masks online to their sites.  As for gloves, you can go to the dollar store, for ex., and buy a bag of gloves.
I don't understand why those items are restricted.  Price gouging is another thing -- but how do you determine what the consumer will pay?

No one has to buy them. Look at what the Pharma Cartel allowed with the epipen and insulin. No one made them stop. Scum sellers.

RE: No way to edit listings so they won't go live ... I would think a last resort would be to just go ahead and list the item. Then watch carefully, and as soon as it hits your "Active selling" list, go in and end the auction.  Obviously there was an error in the listing.

Then the ended auction should appear in your list of "Unsold" and you should be free to copy and/or use whatever you want out of it.

At least, this is how it is supposed to work. I have done this any number of times myself, mistakenly starting auctions when I list the items, forgetting to type in a scheduled starting time.

I have never had any trouble with setting auction start times, or revising listed items to change them, but I am sure it's possible, especially with all the weird glitches that have been reported.
