Seller Appreciates Etsy Blocking Feature

By: Reader

Sponsored Link

Dear Ina,
On Etsy, I just found the "BLOCK THIS PERSON" link at the very bottom of the person's profile page.

Quite an update in seller control.

Much appreciated, Etsy.  :o)
The End

Thank you for the information. I have never had the need to block anyone on Etsy yet. But good to know that it is there and where it is if needed. I have had only a few “mild” lowballers on Etsy that take no for an answer and often buy anyway.

I don't have any problem with Etsy buyers or potential customers.

On eBay my blocked list looks like War & Peace.  Love the eBay folks who knit pick a photo and complain about an item before they even buy it.

Etsy's block feature does not work as well as eBay's.  If a customer sent you a convo, you ''block'' them, they can still message you again.

and i don't think i need to to remind anyone that, just as with Ebay, we'll need to maintain a running list of blocked bidders on Etsy, too.  just in case of the inevitable 'poof' of the list.

as Etsy is just Ebay-lite; that poof is coming sooner than you think.

Years ago, Etsy allowed blocking, then took it away. Nice to see it back, if it works.
I get lowball offers every week. Some get rude if I don't believe their story. Since complaints about those folk are ignored by Etsy staff. if I can block them from contacting me again, great.

Pretty sure that only blocks someone from favoriting you. It doesn't block buyers from buying from you.

Hi, @ruthie is correct. The 'Block A Person' feature blocks someone from following you on Etsy. Please check out the link below, near the page bottom, entitled 'How to block a member'. This is from Etsy's Help Center. Etsy has always been adamant about not allowing sellers to block any buyers. Hope this helps.

Etsy has long needed a ''block a buyer'' facility.

Some sellers say ''well I have never encountered a buyer I needed to block'' so they have been fortunate. Every serious platform has this facility.

Buyers can decide whether they want to trade with a particular seller. So why is is so wrong for sellers to make a professional decision that it is not in their interest to deal with a particular buyer? I trade on 3 other platforms (including Ebay and Ruby Lane) and each of these has a robust blocking system.

On Ruby Lane you can set a blocking level such that buyers who have been blocked by X other sellers cannot buy from you, even if they never traded with you before. They cant even contact you via the platform. This means that troublesome buyers can quickly find themselves blocked from most/many sellers on the site.

Mostly I block buyers for non payment or backing out of a contract. However I have blocked for aggressive haggling and rudeness.

I wish. I had so many interested customers that I had to worry about such things.

All the non stop changes are killing my traffic.  Search is a sick joke.

Sorry to disappoint, but the feature is worthless! It doesn't block anyone from doing anything! Like blocking those annoying trolls that like favoriting the same items every couple of days for absolutely no reason. You can't block it from happening!

Blocking is a real waste of your time. Anyone can buy without an account, they check out as a guest. But if it makes you feel better - go ahead.
