eBay Gouges Sellers by Undercharging Buyers

Dear Ina,
Yesterday was the second time in a month eBay under charged a buyer for shipping. Shipping was for first class international mail.

eBay rep claimed issue was reported by tech to be fixed, therefore she couldn't do anything about it. Obviously problem has not been fixed.

On the first one, they refunded seller fees. She looked at item and could see they weren't charge the right amount. But she still tried to blame it on the way we had shipping set up, but I wasn't having any of that BS.

I told her we'd been selling on eBay for 18 years and I flat out told I knew there was nothing wrong with our shipping settings, as we hadn't change anything. Call ended with her saying she would report it and if enough people also complained, tech would look at it again.

Anyone else still having problems with eBay charge buyer correct amount for shipping?
Richard

I've had exactly this same problem: insufficient postage is charged for international orders of two or more items.

I’ve called eBay three times regarding the issue and have been assured that they are aware of the problem and are trying to fix it. On the first call, the eBay rep credited my final value fees for the sale. On the second call, the rep tried to blame my settings. On the third call, the rep offered to credit one month’s store fee, which I don’t believe they actually did.

Not long after these three calls, I received an email from eBay stating it was my settings, not their problem at all.

I searched back through my international orders and found the earliest example to be on June 28. However, my store was in vacation status for 6 weeks prior to that, so I don’t know what took place during that time.

I’m on the lookout for international orders now and will call before I ship. That way, the rep can go through the process of creating a shipping label to see the actual shipping price and can also review my shipping settings to see they are not the actual issue.

This is a very serious problem that eBay needs to own and fix.

Folks, this same problem happens over and over and over again.  There are multiple letters to the editor on this site and lots of things on Ebay boards about this.

Ebay has known there was a problem with the Ebay shipping calculator program almost since the day it was released.  It is well publicized that Ebay has known for YEARS the program has problems, yet it NEVER gets fixed.

Sometimes the buyer isn't charged enough, other times they are charged too much and sometimes, it will offer free shipping to the buyers.

If you aren't aware of all the issues that frequently come up with using the calculator on Ebay, visit the Ebay blogs.  Try to find another way to more accurately do your shipping unless you are willing to take these hits from time to time.  They don't happen all the time.  Most of the time the program works, but all to frequently it has issues.

The combined first class international shipping problem cropped up about 2 months ago. I have contacted CS multiple times to be told I've been ''added to the list.'' In one conversation CS rep said eBay was going to refund shortages (which I doubt will ever happen).

I've turned off discounted international shipping which helps a little if buyer requests a combined invoice. Otherwise, it makes S&H for multiple sku purchases too high which probably results in lost sales. And, multiple quantity of a single SKU still too low.

I have had no luck at all getting them to either refund me or fix issues. I am still waiting on my refund of a whole monthly anchor store fee, LOL! Last time, I sent them a copy of the invoice before payment and the payment, they told me I must have made it up because they do not have any issues.  This was only a 5.00 loss that they accused me of trying to defraud them over.
Good luck!

After a year of complaining eBay still insists on including Russia under Europe although it is *geographically* part of Asia. This continues to create havoc with my international shipping resulting in gross undercharging since I offer 1st class shipping for items valued under $500 to Europe. There's a separate box for Russia and that box is always checked for Express Mail only. I'm not sure what the point is for a box designated Russia when eBay includes Russia (with all their associated shipping strictures and restrictions) under Europe. Maddeningly frustrating.

I smell a huge class action lawsuit.

@iceit88

Why now?  It's been going on for years.  Or similar problems at least.  Besides, all members of Ebay have agreed to the User Agreement which specifically states that we can't do Class Action suits.  I'm still honestly not so sure how enforceable that is, but we have all agreed nonetheless.

@iceit88-well.....unless you sent written opt outs in to both Ebay and Paypal (which I did) the UA prevents 99% of you from even participating in a class action lawsuit-most of you signed those rights away.

I just had my fourth undercharge on shipping multiple item international order the first the CS rep said it was a known problem and refunded me the undercharge. Today I was told I'll receive an email telling me what they will do. Every multiple item international order is wrong. Don't let them tell you its the settings. You can go to the listing and use the listing calculator and it is correct. Then the payment is $5-$15 less. BS its the settings. It's ebays system fault., THey will not fix till they get a class action lawsuit.
