Will Shoe Seller Get the Boot on eBay?

Dear Ina,
Here is an interesting thread on the eBay Seller board.

It seems seller DC Shoes ran a sale earlier this week, either intentionally or unintentionally, with dozens of shoes listed for $.99, with free shipping on orders over $19. It may have been a mistake, but their parent company, Quicksilver, is in bankruptcy protection, so clearing unsold backstock makes some sense.

Well, of course, they figured out their mistake too late and are cancelling orders, and their feedback shows they have been running them as buyer initiated cancels, which they are not.

Also, strangely enough, their DSR still shows 4.9, 4.9, 4.9, 5.0, and even more strange, their feedback score shows a 98%, yet their total feedbacks received is 9402, and with 8659 positives, that is only a 92.09% feedback percentage.

We have seen, and you covered, the mysterious disappearing negs on ToyRUs eBay's store, yet Jeff and Griff have told us over and over that all sellers play by the same rules.  Of course we both know better, but it will be interesting to see what happens to this store and its feedback over the next week.

1) donr believe ANYTHING GRIIF or JEFF tell you. Paid shills will say what their master tells them to, why even bother listening to them.

2) it all depends on how much money you bring into eBay monthly.

I was "there" when a certain eBay seller that I USED to work for took 1100 preorders for an HP tablet at $99 that they couldnt fill.

The company threatened to leave and go exclusively to Amazon and walk away from the feed with 20K items a month in it.

They also agreed to email each customer and include a $10 coupon in each email (along with an "apology".

eBay then treated ALL 1100 sales as 1 sale and "all was forgiven".

They still sell on eBay today and there was never any issues going forward.

EVERYTHING on eBay is pay for play, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool.

Is Jeff even still with eBay?   He absolutely destroyed the eBay Forums.   Curious if he quit or got the boot?

Enterprise sellers don't have to play by the same rules that small sellers do. We all know that, despite what Billy Goat Griff says.

Why would they get thrown off Ebay.

Its such a little mistake. Its not like they have a duplicate listing.

Once the seller refunds the money, they can file that the customer requested the sale be cancelled. Ebay then notifies the customer that the seller indicated they wanted to cancel the sale so the customer has the ability to indicate that's not true. Most customers don't bother with contesting it.

Feeling Froggy -- I agree -- it was a mistake and they're not trying to defraud anyone. It sounds like a nightmare for them.

@Gottogetout

You missed my point. What I meant was why would this LARGE seller get thrown off Ebay, after all it isn't as though they are a SMALL seller with a duplicate listing that gets thrown off.

The difference is LARGE pays the bills, SMALL makes squeaky annoying noise.

While I don't agree with the way the seller handled their mistake, I do need to note that their feedback score is still correct.

If you hover over the link for ''How is Feedback percentage calculated?'' you will see that ebay tells you straight up that multiple negatives from the same buyer do NOT count against the seller if the purchases are within the same week. So just because 5 buyers posted 100 negatives each does not mean that all 500 negatives will be counted - only 5 will.

Again - the seller should have (and could have) handled this MUCH better than they did.

It wasn't just shoes, but also many different clothing items as well. And, sorry guys, but I'm siding with the seller on this one. It appears to have been some sort of accidental pricing error. Errors/mistakes happen.

I can, to some degree, understand the disappointment the cancelled sale(s) may have caused, but I don't think negatives were deserved here.

This reminds me of the Walmart fiasco when they had the pricing error and people just went crazy. Some people will always be ready to swoop in and take advantage of a genuine mistake even when they KNOW it's a mistake and then be just as ready to cry ''Foul!'' when said swooping is disallowed by the company in question.

If this was truly a pricing error then (in NJ) a seller has the legal right to refuse or not honor purchases, even if paid in advance or delivery.

Its NOT the price error thats in contention here - its "equal treatment under the law" .. aka eBays rules.

Unless you live on the Moon, everyone is fully aware that on eBay its pay for play and that despite what Griff and the other shills say - different groups of people get different treatement (aka chinese sellers and their "magic ability" to take back defective SNAD items).

No they wont, the FVF and listing fees are too much for eBay to loose.

Its simply another set of eBay lies.
