eBay Fails to Account for Holiday in Rating Shipping Performance

By: Reader

Sponsored Link

Dear Ina,
I am a TRS Plus seller and must ship my eBay sold items within one day of payment. I had four sales over the Memorial Day weekend and didn't ship them until Tuesday, May 31 because the post office was closed on Monday, May 30 for the holiday.

All of the packages received acceptance scans from my post office on May 31 which was within eBay guidelines for shipping.

Today I noticed I have four defects for late shipping on those four items. It seems that eBay didn't know the post office is closed on Memorial Day. When I contacted eBay I was told that the system hasn't updated and if the defects are still there on June 15 "they'll take a look."

Really? What kind of customer service is that? It's their glitch, but I need to follow-up to make sure they fix their mistake and if they don't I will end up wasting an hour or so of my life on the phone with eBay customer service trying to explain the problem and hoping they fix it.

It was eBay that made defects so important for sellers, but despite that they can't seem to successfully manage the program.

Now, who would have believed such a thing; eBay, with all its sophisticated programming skills, can't even write a counting procedure to allow for the non-count of public holidays—LOL

The eBay executive suite—where the incompetent mingle with the disingenuous, the unscrupulous, the malevolent, the outright criminal, and the just plain stupid. ...

Be aware that is a lie!!The system does not remove it. Ebay did the same thing over Christmas and New Years. It is not taken off by their system you have to call, get transferred three times after telling them what happened twice already only to be stonewalled.
Check your accounts it happens all the time

We shipped orders from Fri-Mon on Tue and are still at 100%. Did you generate a report? It probably shows uploaded, but no scan yet. There IS a lag, but it does update eventually.

Patience is in order.  Ebay is often a few days behind in updating dashboard numbers.  This is not an unusual occurrence and has nothing to do with a glitch.

We have had to deal with shipping requirements for a long time as sellers.  If you have never noticed a lag time in updates, I'd say you aren't regularly looking at your dashboard numbers.  It happens all the time.

Now that isn't to say this never happens, because it has.  I'm just saying you need to allow a little more time.  The vast majority of the time it will update without issue.

That is funny since the reports are for Transaction period: Sep 12, 2015 - Apr 30, 2016.  There is always more to the story then the seller is telling

What, eBay working against the interests of selected sellers? ...

Working from home, I pack and create labels every day, including holidays. No reason to wait until after the holiday.

That being the case, it sounds like this entire discussion thread is based on a fundamental misunderstanding of how to read the defect reports...?

@scrunchiesbysherry and a_c_green - Your are incorrect.

Indeed the last ''formal'' period is Sep 12, 2015 - Apr 30, 2016.

I wondered about that too - so I went into my Seller Dashboard and right there is an ''IF WE RATED YOU TODAY'' - showing not only my June transactions up through 6/6 but the full breakdown on  all my May 2016 sales, specifically including whether they were mailed/scanned in on time or not!!

The OP is absolutely correct that these four ''mistakes'' would show up.

I was in exactly the same situation -- mailing on Tuesday from sales made Friday/Saturday.

I hope OP will get this fixed. Thankfully my four that were mailed like this are all charted in as correct.

Ebay fails at everything they play with. Even their promotions are à joke. There is always one hoop to jump through to many to take advantage of an offer. They don't know how to not cross the line.

Bidonmine, I can do the same thing and print a label whenever I want, but apparently the USPS acceptance date is being monitored by eBay -- which you cannot control, because of course the post office is closed on Sundays and holidays.

@nothingnew, eBay is not failing or joking -- of course there are hoops and all kinds of other obstacles we may even think are dumb -- but all are designed to discourage, dumb like a fox  ...

How else are they going to get rid of us small sellers who are determined to stick with it ? They just keep making the road bumpier and bumpier hoping more will jump ship and get off the wagon..... if done voluntarily, they won't have to dump anyone.

@tinker belle

You stated "The OP is absolutely correct that these four ''mistakes'' would show up.  I was in exactly the same situation -- mailing on Tuesday from sales made Friday/Saturday.

Just as you didn't have to do anything, the OP doesn't need to do anything, except wait.  The OP expressed concern only two days after the holiday.  That is not always enough time for Ebay to update the dashboards.  Sometimes it takes a few days.  Patience is what it takes the majority of the time.

Yes, Ebay does make mistakes.  But before getting upset, wait a few days to see if it self corrects as it did for you.

As for Ebay "monitoring" acceptance scans, they have done that for a long time.  And sellers have had part of their statistics based on acceptance scans.  However that has changed.

We are no longer dependent upon the acceptance scan to prove we shipped on time.  And that is a good thing for ALL sellers. The way Ebay accepts that an item is shipped on time is:

1.  The carrier scans the package as accepted.
2.  Tracking on the package shows delivered within the ETA that was on the listing.
3.  The buyer, when leaving FB checks the box that it was delivered on time.

So if your carrier misses getting it scanned in when you shipped it, you now have two more ways in which Ebay will accept that the item was shipped on time.  And this too will sometimes create the delay you may see on your dashboard as to when an item has shipped on time.

Not everything is about getting rid of small sellers or just to cause you grief of one form or another.  Sometimes it is just a misunderstanding of the rules or procedure.

I'm no ebay "cheerleader".  But this whole thread is ridiculous.  Marie is right.  Learn to read your dashboard......and allow it time to update.  NO need to cry "glitch" when there IS NONE.
