Errors in eBay Catalog Have Serious Consequences for Sellers

By: Reader

Sponsored Link

Dear Ina,
eBay is doing our listings a disservice. eBay is putting up Product Reviews that have nothing to do with my product.

I have 2200 positive feedbacks and although eBay has me at 41/2 Stars on Reviews, one of the reviews is a negative and is for another seller on eBay.

I called the eBay team and they promised to take down the negative review from my listings.

Why would eBay do this? Amazon has real product reviews and I view them all the see if I should buy the product. But if eBay puts someone's else negative review on my product then that is a disaster for my product.

What in the world is wrong with eBay doing this to Top Rated Plus Sellers?
Thanks,
Sue

You are absolutely correct about the product reviews on Ebay and how they may affect sellers.  But make no mistake, while the ones on Amazon may not of affected you as much they are just as bad if not worse.

Both sites are working to clean things up but it will take a lot of time as it is an enormous amount of information to go through and fix.

There was a recent article here that you should take a peek at.

This
doesn't just affect TRS sellers.  It affects ALL sellers.

Marie,

I'm curious about something. In the article link that you posted-- in that thread you stated in one of your many responses "they aren't asking sellers to clean it up...", yet several times you talk about the "clean-up". The title of that article clearly was "eBay Asks for Help in Cleaning Up Product Pages".   Why did you review reporting as being different from "cleaning up", but yet you referred to "cleaning up" or "clean up" several times in your posts.   Not busting your chops here but it totally confused me.

Amazon's reviews include just as many seller comments. Just as bad, some even have photos that do not match the product and you have no idea who they bought it from and they do not say.

Feedback and reviews used to be one of the few tools we had to judge a Seller or a product online.   Now-a-days a smart shopper knows, to read between the lines.   It's not true, just because it is in writing.  Learn to filter out the chaff to get to the wheat.

@rexford

Because they aren't asking sellers to clean up the reviews, they are asking for help cleaning up the reviews.  They did not and have not, to my knowledge, given the sellers the power to actually adjust or delete the reviews.

Ebay isn't giving sellers the power to actually make any changes, but they want their impute on what they see as being wrong.  IMHO it would be hard to assemble a team at Ebay that knows every product out there in Ebayland and to be knowledgeable enough about every product to know if any given review is a problem or not.

I think it was a smart move for Ebay to ask members to report the problems when they see them. But I say that with caution as far more times than not Ebay doesn't listen to its members.  Only time will tell what they do with the information.  I tend to think with this subject they will react as it is in their best interest to have it cleaned up too.

Really, is this new? I have been reporting the Wrong Pictures, Titles, Sizes thanks to eBay low IQ Outsourced staff who makes sellers lose millions a year. In Amazon is the same, what about a Chocolate Flavor Size Shirt or a IPhone Shampoo?

Got it Marie. Thank you for the clarification.  And I agree with you regarding the point you make about them not listening to their sellers.  Even their surveys are manipulated to get the answers that they want.
