eBay Snubs Longtime Seller When It Comes to Promotions

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
There seems to be a few UK business sellers who do not get invited to these promos. The last one I was invited must have been over a year ago. There have been about half a dozen of these since then, none of which I was invited to participate in.

On the eBay discussion forums there are a few other sellers in the same position. It seems to mainly affect long term sellers.

I have contacted eBay about it several times. They assure me that my account is eligible, and say it's a random process, and I'm just "unlucky". However, one person at customer service did let slip something about "targeting specific groups".

I've had my eBay account for over 15 years and it is in good standing.

Private sellers (many of whom are business sellers not declaring, but that's another matter than needs investigating) get endless free listing offers, and now most business sellers are also getting free listings. It's really dispiriting having to pay fees when most other sellers are getting free listings.

Perhaps this needs more investigation.

It does feel like eBay are excluding a certain group of long standing sellers deliberately, but won't admit it.

Regards
Jim (UK eBay seller)

A random process, and I'm just "unlucky".

Oh my.....they reached very deeply into the excuse bucket for that one.

I'm a US seller and sometimes I go a long period of time before getting invited to a promotion, then sometimes I will get a few in a row.  I've known other US sellers that report going months and months without being invited.

Then there are those promos you don't get an email about, but if you check your Summary on Selling Manager, it appears.  So I check mine regularly.  That is what happened with this last promo.  I did not get an email, but it was on my Summary.

I know none of that helps the OP.  The only thing I could suggest is to continue to call every now and again.  Hopefully someday you will reach someone that can explain it.

Also check your site preferences.  If you don't allow promotional emails from Ebay, then you will not get invited to promotions.  So maybe somehow that box got unchecked.  Its worth a few moments to check it.  I sincerely hope it is that easy for you to fix.

For some reason, I was cut off from promos a long time ago.  The only promos I get now are when there is one for EVERYBODY.  I'm pretty sure there is a "no-promo" list in their database that I'm on... for whatever reason.  No big deal to me... can't get anything to sell on eBay these days anyway.

I have 5 seperate ebay accounts that all sell pretty much the same sort of things---and I am always curious to know WHY some will get the promos and some--won't.  IS it the oldest account?  Not always.  The newest?  Not always.  The one with the lowest or highest FB?  Who knows.  This week I  got NO emails on the latest one---and had to go check ALL of the accounts to see if I had it and then I had to go OPT IN.  If you DON'T notice that you have to OPT IN ---you are going to lose the FREE listings anyway.

Not that it really mattered---I had plenty of FREE listings avail--because ya know--nothing is shown or selling---but---it would have been NICE to KNOW I had the OPTION to use the promo.  In case some how a miracle occured and everything I had listed suddenly SOLD---like the Olden Days.

Also--when they do a promo--it would be SO NICE if they paid the least little bit of attention to things like--if sellers can't input a PRICE--they are going to walk away.  So--make SURE the price area on listings is ya know---actually working.
