eBay Profits from Glitches and Mistakes

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
Have you ever done or could you do an article on how many, many, many people lose their money on eBay - and eBay doesn't care.

eBay makes a lot of money on the mistakes of the buyers and sellers. They don't have it set up to correct a lot of the problems that happen over and over - but they get their fees still.

They either don't explain or teach people the right way to do things, or there are so many glitches that the system fails people.

Have you ever also noticed that errors or glitches are never in the sellers' favor, as far as monetary gain?  No glitch ever put a dime into a seller's account, but the glitches always seem to put money into eBay's pocket.

@Rexford - If a glitch ever resulted in money erroneously going in a seller's account, you can be sure eBay would see that said money was removed with supersonic speed. But if there's a "glitch" in favor of eBay, a seller has to spend time on the phone trying to get their money back. eBay would never be honest and credit the money without being forced to.

They are known as BLEGs, bottom line enhancing glitches, and contrary to how Philip thinks ebay incompetent, IMO they are well crafted programming to nickel & dime both sellers & buyers.

@P.Dorf,

Believe me, it has never been my intent to suggest that eBay was only incompetent; they have, by many of their actions, also demonstrated themselves to be disingenuous, malevolent, unscrupulous, and outright criminal, but of their incompetence, most glaringly, the proof is in the pudding …

PYPL ~$37; EBAY ~$28; AMZN ~$528—LOL ...

The eBay executive suite—where the incompetent mingle with the disingenuous, the malevolent, the unscrupulous, and the outright criminal, and the just plain stupid … http://bit.ly/11F2eas

They arent glitches or mistakes - they are revenue enhancing micro adjustments.

Since eBay doesnt own anything they cant "make profit" on anything.

Since eBay assumed all the debt on the split - they need to make it up somehow.

Since eBay cant keep its sellers, there are less buyers = less fvfs.

Dont think for 1 second that there are mistakes, there arent. eBay doesnt care because its all planned.

One for all and all for me is eBays motto.
