Beware Ramifications of eBay Fee Hike

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
Just got off the phone with eBay about being charged to relist vintage items or any items for that matter. I opened a store using the free trial period, some of my items I had to relist.

I go to relist items and was being charged .25 cents per item. I was no where near my 98 free auction listings.

I called eBay to find out why was told sellers need to list in the collectible category not to be charged a listing fee. Plus if your item is set up to relist it will be charged because it is not listed in collectibles.

This is going to happen until the end of May something new they are trying out. But if you list under fixed price you are not charged a fee. And I thought they wanted to promote auctions again.

So I just thought your readers might want to know.
A.

From the Editor: Note that this is a permanent fee change that took effect on May 1st.

Sucks doesn't it? Here are today with the Very First Example of when eBay has stated they want to HELP us all sell and then instead acted to accomplish exactly the opposite.  This IS the Very First Time, isn't it?

Sounds as if the beatings will continue under the New Boss - same as the Old Boss - until morale improves.

If you select "sell similar" instead of "relist" does it still charge you?

If you buy or sell collectibles, auction is the way to go. I buy and sell baseball memorabilia. EBay was decimating auction houses when they were in their hay day. BIN  not only saved these houses but new auction houses are opening all the time. BIN sellers of collectibles are asking ridiculous prices and leaving their listings on the EBay site forever. You would think this would benefit sellers like me who try to sell via auction. The problem is buyers have left EBay in droves. This because of the  numerous pages of garbage to navigate through. When you do find a quality item it is priced in the stratosphere.

It would be wonderful if PayPal, extremely well run (unlike EBay) introduced an all auction format to compete with EBay as its first move as an independent company.

@WARZAK----With Johhnnyy the HO at the helm the LAST thing anyone should wish for is that PAYPAL starts an auctions site!!!

Now--SOMEONE should do this--but NOT anything in the most remote way shape manner or form remotely related TO ebay.

And yes-=-there is far too much crap (mopstly chinese knock offs)  listed on there for anyone to be able to sift thru.  Even using the so=called "Advanced" features--they don't work and I swear they are not allowed to actually WORK the way they SAY they do.

One tip-===try using the NEAREST FIRST search--this at least can help winnow down to US SELLERS first.

Are eBay sellers saving money by shipping thru Amazon?

My eBay purchase came from Amazon Fulfillment.

and the lashings continue , then when you list in collectable categories they will tell you something else. when will all this nonsense end (or will there be an end?) it would seem that e**y is self destructive and will continue till the end of all sellers, fee hikes are never fun expressly when it is not spelled out clearly to sellers, and the dreaded 2 hour calls UGH!

@ comet
I tried that however it seems like the china sellers have in the title registered US accounts, however the shipping is from china it would seem they are exempt from the same rules as we have to adhere to, I wonder if the fee hike was given to them as well as us sellers or only to the us sellers?

eBay = Paypal ..... didnt anyone JUST READ the new agreement(s) ... they are the SAME as the  OLD ones..

EVERYTHING is exactly the same as it was - the only difference is on paper to satisfy the government.

The board FORCED a split since anything associated with eBay is toxic (to say the least).

NOW, Paypal can see "see we are separate, we have NOTHING to do with eBay .... well except money holds and forced debits due to eBay MBG issues and everything else - but i SWEAR we are separate!"

LMAO - Who's fooling who ?

If this seller was paying attention and reading the notices and emails eBay sends, they would have known that this was in the Spring Seller Update and was a new change to store pricing.  No surprise if you pay attention.

Yes, it just shows how important it is to read those pesky emails Ebay sends.  If you don't read anything else, make sure you at the very least read the Spring Seller Updates and the Fall Seller updates.  That way you don't get such a big shock when things change.

Many store owners are quite upset by this change, I know I'm one of them.

@toolguy

The sellers are using Amazon as their dropshipper.

No it isn't cheaper to ship through Amazon.  Amazon charges a 7 cent per label fee.  PP use to charge that years ago, but dropped it.
