I've been a seller on eBay since 2012 with over 1700 sales. I too believe that eBay will side with the buyer on all complaints and furthermore, ANYONE can leave negative feedback regardless of the situation.
My company will give refunds for any reason. We had 4 negative feedbacks this past year.
1- WW2 Navy recruiting poster - claimed it's a reproduction. The item is genuine and we offered a refund anyway. The buyer chose to keep poster and gave negative feedback. eBay won't remove.
2 - Mourning Locket - Customer disappointed it had "someone else's" hair in it and glass was cracked. These were fully disclosed in the listing. We offered a refund. Buyer choose to keep locket and gave negative feedback.
3 - Gold bangle - buyer claims it was damaged. They returned item DAMAGED. We gave refund anyway. Buyer left negative feedback.
4 - 14K Yellow Gold & Amethyst Tennis Bracelet. Buyer inquired, AFTER winning the bid, if asked if the stones were genuine. We stated that we didn't know, buyer wanted us to ship bracelet so he can have his jeweler examine and wanted to return afterwards. As we never claimed them to be genuine, we returned his money instead of selling. He gave negative feedback that we reneged on an offer.
When we called eBay regarding these negative feed backs they said to us: "they always side with buyers OPINIONS". So they don't care about the facts, only opinions.
Today they are holding $1200 until 3 days after the winning buyer receives the items. I asked eBay for interest on MY money they are holding. Daniel, a manager, said: "he's the final word - they won't give interest".
He also claimed the reason for holding our money is because "other" sellers have ripped off buyers. eBay wants to punish me for what OTHER sellers have done?
I've been in business since 1978. We are honest and forthright. We have an excellent reputation and treat our customers as I personally would like to be treated. If eBay is going to print frivolous negative feedback, I believe they have a responsibility to check the facts and only print what is factual. eBay has also "lowered" our rating in the past due to the USPS losing a package or having it delayed in delivery by weeks, something that is totally out of our control.
We had an oversea buyer return a guitar claiming it arrived damaged. eBay returned the money BEFORE the guitar was returned and when we received it, it was stripped of all the pick-ups, strings, machine head and bridge (COMPLETELY STRIPPED).
Even though we showed pictures, we had to fight with eBay and spend money for an "expert" opinion of the value of the guitar now in this condition. How ridiculous.
If a seller offers money back regardless of the reason, what more could ANY buyer ever ask from the seller? If eBay wants to hold my money, I should get interest. If eBay is going print something negative about my company, it should be factual.
eBay shirks their responsibility's and treats their sellers unfairly.
