Is eBay Tinkering with International Site Visibility?

Dear Ina,
As a longstanding seller on eBay (UK site), I was dismayed last Thursday, when listing a new batch of auction items, to find that the International Site Visibility upgrade tick-box had gone missing.

I have used the ISV option for many years, and have been happy to pay the small extra charge for the feature, as it gets my items automatically listed on eBay's US site. Without this upgrade, my items become virtually invisible on eBay.com - and as a great many of my buyers are in the US, this is a huge problem for me.

This is a strange glitch, not consistent across the site. In Books, for example, it affects the Antiquarian & Collectable sub-category, but not the Fiction sub-category.

I have been in touch with customer services (several times), and they tell me various things. Firstly, that this glitch affects 71 sub-categories on the UK site. Secondly, that they cannot tell me when it will be fixed - estimates have varied from one week to 60 days! They also tell me that the more sellers complain, the faster the problem will be addressed.

I really can't understand why it would take eBay so long to fix this. It's affecting the functionality of the site, and auction sale prices.

Needless to say there has been no official eBay announcement.

As eBay do not seem to be taking the issue at all seriously, I'm left wondering if this is really a glitch, or perhaps a test they're running?

I think you probably know in your heart of hearts that eBay are not going to fix it....eBay CS in UK always refer to their default position after every update, which is more or less every Friday....."If in doubt, deny everything"! Problem is they are always in doubt our side.

Well since Ebay US decided to "run a test" and stopped showing anything listed at less than $25 through GSP to Canadian buyers without plastering it all over the site, I suspect that this is an "upgrade".

Their markdown manager has not been working for quite some time if you want to put mor than 1000 items on sale. Two months ago I was told that it would be fixed. Ebay is falling apart.

Hi

Going forwards, when you list in certain categories on eBay.co.uk, we’ll automatically show these items on eBay.com and eBay.ca. Therefore we’re removing the international site visibility upgrade option for these categories.   This means that you won’t need to pay an additional fee for your listings in these categories to appear on these two sites.

Hope this helps
Dave

Gee, "Davebay", hope you'll hang around, I'm sure there are a few more questions readers here would like answers to ...

The eBay executive suite—where the incompetent mingle with the disingenuous, the malevolent and the outright criminal, and the just plain stupid ... http://bit.ly/11F2eas

@Davebay

are you going to be one of the "laid off" group?, in addition when is ebay going to stop playing with peoples livelihoods?? do the people there realize that people are literally loosing their homes , income and filing bankruptcy? this is not a game to some , as an employee speak up let people know what is going on this secret agenda has got to stop, it is not a matter of "if" it is a matter of "when" ebay shuts itself down due to bad publicity , technically ebay is fixing the wheel that was not broken, tinkering with site visibility for the uk or the usa, china or anywere is another move that is not going to be accepted by sellers or buyers, wake up ebay may report that it is indeed making money on paper, however there are people out in the real world who know differently, ebay is loosing sellers by the thousands they are also buyers too, it has become to risky to do business on ebay for many sellers, these sudden monthly changes without notice is overbearing , unrealistic, unethical , and extremely dishonest

eBay doesn't announce, or tell the truth about, all the systems outages and glitches because WE CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH. And if the stock holders knew, they'd be unhappy.

I think only ebay employees are the only stock holders left (part of their pay) it should be interesting in the next few months to come see what becomes of the once known e commerce giant formally known as ebay!
if it is not closed and they carry out every employee in handcuffs , I think they are the most hated pretend venue online today,

The remaining U.S. small sellers on eBay are being extinguished since our items & stores are usually ''invisible'' in U.S. (& elsewhere) search results. Even search results for existing & well stocked eBay stores often show zero items for sale. But it is curious that we get an occasional sale from a customer in the U.K. or Canada since a few of our items are periodically shown in searches done in those countries. How nice of eBay to grant us limited visibility in select locations! (Of course, we still are charged full fees as though our items & stores really exist and are visible!) Why not remove the not so secret caps on search results and sales & give the honest & hardworking sellers & buyers (throughout the world) a chance to resume normal (versus controlled/dictated) business operations on the allegedly global venue?
