eBay Should Pick Director with Ecommerce Experience

By: Reader

Dear Ina,

Re: eBay Adds 'Social' Executive to Its Board of Directors (link)

The announcement of Hammer to the Board of Directors does not seem to bode well for eBay sellers. Looking at who she currently works for, NBCU, is owned by Comcast.

Comcast is fighting the Net Neutrality Act where they would like to charge companies and users fees to have higher rankings in searches by paying more in fees.

If she is one that works for and supports Comcast, then she will have no problem in charging more for internet services.

With this being said, I fear for eBay sellers that she would support higher seller fees without any compunction.

NBCUniversal is one of the world's leading media and entertainment companies in the development, production, and marketing of entertainment, news and information to a global audience. NBCUniversal owns and operates a valuable portfolio of news and entertainment television networks, a premier motion picture company, significant television production operations, a leading television stations group, world-renowned theme parks, and a suite of leading Internet-based businesses. NBCUniversal is a subsidiary of Comcast Corporation.

From what I have read, she may have experience in software and information services but absolutely no experience with ecommerce.

I do not consider this "Good News."  How about hiring someone with common sense and experience in ecommerce? How about a "real" person with practical experience?

Why eBay continues to shoot themselves in the foot is beyond me!
Thanks!
Linda

She is receiving $80,000 per year to serve on the board, as well as $220,000 in stock which fully vests in 1 year.

It's good work if you can get it.

She also sits on another board that controls 120 brands.

at this point anyone e bay hires is just a "Fall Guy" for all the damage already done,
I do not think the selling community will ever heal from all the losses and damage done to them

in addition I do not believe e bay is a venue that is to be trusted with ones financial information

the newly hired will more than likely be the ones arrested with anti trust violations or insider trading

at this point ebay is the most disliked venue and with people with no e commerce experience will just be downhill

fees are increased

paypal fees increased

sellers are afraid of listing anything

buyers are demanding things outside listings

no seller protection

fraud on the increase

constant glitches

no costumer support

all time low sales

defective rating system

rolling blackouts

increased fees higher international fees

over ride sellers return policies to include free return shipping duty and taxes

its just not worth it any more shame, no matter whom they hire

ebay spells

Ajeweler:  Love your list!!  I  am going print this list out and put it up on my refrigerator and read it every day to remind myself to get the hell off ebay and never go back!  It's a harsh reality.

eBay doesn't want people with experience.

They want stooges - ones that come from other crooked companies are preferred.

If your background is fraud and corruption then you won't mind abit more over at eBay.

Just like last nights dealer awards ceremony at Monster. You know. -  Beats.

Vero being the sick people they are , kick off sellers with legit product but let fake ones run rampant.

I was there for the Steve Miller concert but guess who won e-tailer of the year? EBAY.

I guess it's easy to make sales when you eliminate the competition via Vero !

This women is another stooge. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss !

Just 1 more dick to join eBay to make our lives more miserable and less profitable !

it is funny watching these morons run eBay into the ground with their lack of hands on experience !

Pierre, why don't you put out a  Help Wanted add for a REAL CEO, one who was a seller on your site from the 1990's and has survived all the bullsh*t Donahoe has put us through ?

Hire someone to replace Donahoe that knows how sellers should be treated and buyers !

Stop hiring 1 dick after another !

2015 I hope eBay shuts down ! It should, it is the MOST HATED selling venue on planet earth ! With the most hated CEO !

Why Wenig would want the job of the MOST HATED Man/CEO on the planet baffles me !

I wouldn't ever show my face in public ever again, if I did to people what Donahoe did, I would be so ashamed of myself, I would be a recluse the rest of my life

OP Linda asks..." Why eBay continues to shoot themselves in the foot is beyond me!"

The answer in a nutshell is that existing management believes that as long as sellers are willing to continue to pay ( through the nose) for a vastly inferior platform, then the status quo will not change.

Unless and until sellers pull back in bigger numbers - numbers large enough to cause sales to fall - eBay management will remain unmotivated and unresponsive.

Bad policy will be supported by Directors who have zero experience - as long as sales show even meager increases.

BUT the minute eBay fails to show any growth, or shows negative growth statistics, then and only then will management get the wake up call and realize they are the reason the company is failing.

Of course, with eBay soon to be a stand alone company, by the time things reach zero or negative growth, it will be too late and the marketplace will either be acquired for pennies or simply cease to exist.

This new executive named to the BOD is just another pig at the trough. Of course, she knows nothing about eCommerce or business. Why should she? She's just there for the money she can skim off.

The 1% pass these lucrative jobs around amongst themselves. Then they vote themselves big salaries and lots of stock shares. It is a money game to them. The Good Old Boy (now Girl too) network of rub my back and I'll rub yours is alive and well in corporate America.

When they get on these Boards they have no interest in the companies. They just want the money.

So every time we pay for a Store Subscription, a listing fee, or a FVF, we are feeding the pigs.

Stick a fork in Ebay (or the fattest pig of them all: Donahoe), because they are done. Why sell there, if nothing sells?

Now where is my fork?

You can count on the fact that with eBay, as with many other large corporations, will only choose "leaders" who stick it to anyone who is not the 1% of the wealthiest in this country.

Congratulations to the "placeholder" who is no more than the Board representative for social media.

While I'm not a religious man, Isaiah 10 1-3 can also be applied to corporate leaders: Woe to you who legislate evil, who pass laws that make victims -- laws that bring misery for the poor, that rob my destitute people of dignity, exploiting defenseless widows, taking advantage of homeless children. What will you say on Judgment Day, when Doomsday arrives out of the blue. What good will your money do you?"

It's difficult for me to imagine that this appointment and position is little more than ''window dressing'' to impress clueless investors.

Investors will oooh-and-ahhh at how up-to-date eBay is with these progressive and forward-thinking positions.

eBay execs will be busy patting themselves on the back for creating this ''ceremonial'' position, which is all but meaningless when one considers that the appointee is completely unqualified to do anything that will directly benefit the rank-and-file sellers.

We have witnessed what the board has done so far, gave themselves a lucrative insider trading skype deal and got away with it, gave Donahoe and Swan millions in a golden parachute bonus to keep their mouths shut, and have given Chinese sellers the keys because Donahoe is the head of Obama's trade initiative with China and Donahoe wants it to appear he has done good for Obama except he put 100's of USA small business owners out of business.BAIN!! BAIN!! BAIN!!!
Staright out of Mitt Romney's playbook and JD is in love with Romney. It is not going to change, these guys are still going to be in charge and they will not go to jail where they belong, they are connected and protected and doing whatever they want. They are so many Rico Act Violations by ebay it would take a army to prosecute them all. Omiydar does not care, he obviously is completely disconnected.

Ebay is doing EXACTLY as it planned. Squeeze out the small sellers, who's preowned stock WAS NOT ENOUGH to make them all rich.
Sooner or later ebay hopes buyers will not notice, and will just buy from the big brands.
They figure that if they are able to stick around long enough that the big influx of net shopping taking over will more than make up the difference.
We are IN THE WAY of that so they continue to PURGE US and hand over the site to big business.
This new hire is part of that.

Of course, ebays holiday quarter came in at just over 5% where Amazons was over 20%.

This type of director is just who ebay wants for its future plans so GET OUT NOW.

Wenig is the same, it will get worse not better.

The new seller standards WILL include 180 day permanent returns for snad, WATCH for the announcement.

"You spoke and we listened".

"Surveys indicate that buyers like 180 returns".

REMEMBER this prediction.

Perhaps we should send our bogus returns directly to JD or the BOD as a request for an appeal on the fraud they have created. They should not miss out on all the post holiday action. Give the new director a heads-up on what she is walking into.

ChannelAdvisor, a company that makes e-commerce software for online retailers, reported that its customers' online sales (desktop and mobile) increased 16.2% during November and December. …

ChannelAdvisor reported that Amazon's same-store sales rose 26.9% during the holiday season. ChannelAdvisor defines same-stores sales for Web retailers as sales from merchants who have sold their goods on a Web site for at least one year. …

EBay lagged Amazon during the holidays, with a 7.3% increase in same-store sales, including 5.8% growth in December and 9.8% in November.

"This growth trails the 16% growth in overall e-commerce and indicates that eBay may be continuing to see some negative impact from the security breach, which hit eBay in late May," Squali wrote.

Growth of eBay's Marketplaces has been stalling since the beginning of 2014, according to analysts. Its number of active buyers, transaction volume and revenue growth pale in comparison with Amazon. Add the holiday numbers, and things aren't looking too promising for the company, compared with Amazon.

Not even Bonnie Hammer will be able to get a rise ut of this tired old horse; in fact, the horse has already expired; the cretins in the eBay executive suite should stop beating it, lest someone report them to the ASPCA …

I find it odd that eBay has hired a director with "social" expertise, when they seem so fearful of sellers and buyers communicating with each other. And the home page already looks like Pinterest, so maybe she'll be in charge of keeping the "trending collections" relevant.
