Fashion Brands Exempt from Feedback on eBay

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
First, thank you for the great service you do. It's kind of a place to vent.

Today I was looking at my homepage, and the feature "Designer Collective" buy direct from brands you love. They have a bunch of designers, I clicked on a couple, Ele Tahari, House of Harlow, and to my amazement (not) there's no feedback, not even a 0, nothing.

So are these exempt from feedback? They are exempt from feedback, defects, etc.?

Wondered if you knew anything about this?
Thank you!
Silvia

Note from the editor: Interesting observation. You can read about the Designer Collective initiative in this June EcommerceBytes Newsflash article.

Yes I do,,

When ebay first did this designer collection, I took a look at some of the collections, to see what the feedback / sales were, and they DID HAVE A FEEDBACK SCORE, the sales were almost none, very few sales, for such famous designers, then about a week later when I checked, all the feedback scores had vanished, just like what you see today.

Typical ebay operations, to hide, cheat, deceive the real facts.

This state of affairs, if the observation is indeed correct, will undoubtedly eventually be applied to all of Johnny Ho’s “preferred” merchants; the lord of the manor knows he can’t invite other “gentlemen” into his house and then abuse them, the way he does his peasant farmers, and get away with it; yet, history records that even the peasant farmers eventually are freed from such tyranny …

so how is this good for buyers?  I wonder if they make "suggestions" to these sellers "start your item at .99"
certainly most of these items are prices much higher than the average selling price on ebay for like items  Will JD tell them to drop their price?
This is ridiculous.
I hope Ina digs deeper and gets a reply from ebay (not holding my breath)

Well, eBay has not yet removed the “completed listings” feature from the generic eBay listings; so, if you want to see the true state of the eBay marketplace, take a look at the completed listings of the likes of eBay “preferred” merchants “buy” or “eforcity”—oceans of “blood” …

Even those merchants that have the appearance of good sales, if they are using nominal start auctions, much of the bidding will be shill and many of the resulting “sales” will be self purchases; I suspect many BIN sales are also self purchases; such activity is an eBay approved form of marketing: show the market how successful you are—by buying your own stuff! eBay does not mind, they take their FVF on the “sale”—real or faux; gee, you can’t even bid on you own auction and then, have attracted no genuine bidders, cancel the sale—eBay now also wants a FVF even on those failed attempted frauds—just like the Mafia of old, a percentage of everything, even the air you breathe …

Then, if the merchant is honest (heaven forbid) and does not participate is such deception/fraud, eBay will simply do away with the public record that would otherwise shows how abysmal is the reality of sales on their marketplace; can’t have the peasants getting any of this valuable sales information now can we? …

Can’t you just see that bunch of headless turkeys in the eBay executive suite, running around in circles, ever decreasing, at ever increasing speed, until finally …

No need to investigate it any further, it was just another ebay designed FLOP, that was so bad they had to hide the feedback / sales history.

Really: who in their right mind would buy a high end designer article at fleabay,,,, when you can buy the for sure real one from the real designers real website.

More importantly, if you buy such high-end stuff on eBay, you cannot be seen to be buying such stuff. If you are going to spend some ~$50,000 on a crocodile skin Hermes Birkin handbag, you have to arrive in your limo, complete with your security gorilla, and be seen buying it ...

The whole nonsensical concept of trying to sell over-priced, high fashion on eBay was flawed from the start; can you imagine Kim Kardashian, or the like, buying anything anonymously on eBay? Dream on Johnny Ho, Ho, Ho …

The more you see these changes, the more you shake your head.   My husband was a huge buyer of collectibles on ebay, he said no more, doesn't trust auctions.  Shady sellers are just doing "private" auctions where you can't see anything, not even the garbled id.
JD must have some serious childhood issues of mistrust and secrecy.
I'm sure these brands are happy to have their items appear next to dirty, used socks. I don't understand why these designers do it.  Don't they know Neiman Marcus and others tried it and RAN!

My understanding was the designer fashion brands items were being sold at full retail. Who pays full retail for anything especially on eBay? Ebay will NEVER be considered a high end place to shop. No wonder JD needs ''thinking days'' but obviously it is not working and not getting through his thick skull.

Of course, any buyer that touches a "private" auction listing has to be naïve in the extreme; you can guarantee that on such auctions you will be bidding against the seller ...

First Item I looked at:

http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&use
rid=vinc.cynt&&_trksid=p2047675.l2560&rt=nc&iid=111394868849&sspagename=VIP:feedback&ftab=FeedbackAsSeller

Seller:
vinc.cynt

Transactions: 10

Feedback: 5

Negative feedback: 2

Ive been a seller since 1998 and i have NEVER gotten ones like she did:

1) I was sent the wrong item, seller took 2+ weeks to respond. Horrible experience.

2) Never received item. No communication from seller. eBay refunded me. Not happy

77.8% Positive feedback

So Brian Jerk (I mean Burke) will she be guardrailed?

WOW, 77.8 percent, well I guess that is one quick way to absolutely RUIN your company reputation, and good name, at 77.8 percent on ebay you would be considered a SCAMMER, DEFECTVE, and BOOTED from ebay.

I really hope this seller can take a holistic look at how they are running their defective business.

FASHIONISTA, I have to disagree with you, some may, but I ALWAYS do Private, and certainly not cause I am shady, or shilling.

My Legitimate reason is this, I do not want it made easier for competitor to see my sales history so easy on 1 particular item.

And the #1 reason I do PRIVATE is so the future scum bottom feeding extortionist bidders see my popular items going for a low low price, which is usually the case, I do not want them to think that is all the higher they should go.

So there ARE some legitimate reasons why honest sellers may use the private feature is all I am saying

Peace

As Philip Cohen often states, JD wants eBay to become an online Westfield Mall. Perhaps this "no feedback" for the Designer Collective is the beginning of a plan whereby none of his favorite sellers (think Toys R Us) will receive feedback. Since we all know that JD's favorites will not be "defective" no matter how much negative feedback they receive, there's not much point in ever leaving feedback for them.

Sadly this situation, shows many prime examples, of how poorly eBay is being operated,

I guess ebay can keep digging their hole as deep as they want, it's their sandbox,

@LDS BROTHER
I see your points, but
I don't understand why buyers partial id's can't be shown, you can't identify a buyer from that, but you can certainly determine a pattern.

fashionista: ditto on partial ids. With all protections being removed shortly the block feature though limited in scope is all we have left & ecommercebytes & email & blogs.
