Competing Ads in eBay Listings Are Not Reciprocated

By: Reader

Sponsored Link

Dear Ina,
I happen to be logged in my eBay buying account when I check my own item.

eBay would add a dozen competition items below ALL my listings. When I clicked the competition items, I don't see any of my items listed in their items.

When I logged in to my eBay Store account, all the foreign listing were not there? They are hidden from the sellers.

When will eBay hire an ethical CEO? Ethics should start from the eBay Board of Directors and eBay CEO. eBay clearly doesn't have ethical leaders and ethics oversight committee.
Regards,

eBay Sucks!!!

A while back, I listed a (brand new) dress and had two watchers. The next day I checked my stats and reviewed the listing again.

My jaw dropped after I noticed at the bottom of my listing eBay had posted a competitor ad from 6PM for the exact same dress, at a major discount AND free shipping.

Guess what? My dress didn't sell -- not even after I undercut 6PM (in subsequent listings) and offered free shipping.

You are lucky that you can see your listings.

In the eBay Terms Of Service is says that your items might not be visible.

Sellers are held to very high standards and then let down by the eBay people they pay.

Make your own web site. Stop drinking the eBay KoolAid.

Why does this not surprise? Obviously, eBay management thinks that their users are all stupid, when in fact it is clearly they that are stupid (look at their stock price compared to Amazon’s). Regardless, eBay continually demonstrates itself to be an ethics-free organisation, and you can always rely on eBay to practice every possible deception on its users. The US DOJ, or someone, really should get stuck into this bunch of online Mafioso ...

They're grooming Uncle_G for that job.

What a waste of time! There's so much effort and hassle and extra work required to scrape-by at eBay. As a venue, it's volatile and hostile. As a career for anyone who needs to COUNT-ON the paltry income... it's super risky... here today, hiccup, gone tomorrow!

For all the work one does on eBay just to get-by, the SAME amount of work put forth on your own website is so much more productive and profitable.

It's infinitely more satisfying, and the ''looking-forward-to-starting-my-day'' quotient has quadrupled!! I love it when my phone rings... it's an opportunity that awaits... I no longer FEAR an unhappy customer. I LOVE fielding questions from shoppers... all WITHOUT fear irrational PARANOIA that they're involved in some elaborate ''set-up'' that's part of a scam!

Profits are up! Work is steady! Frustration level is low! Happiness is up! Fear-factor is down! Risk factor is low! Fees are low! (Yes, fees... I pay my CC merchant processor, and I pay Godaddy. Those are all ''fees''... but I'm actually GETTING SOMETHING of value in return! Big difference!)

Folks... I promise you... there IS life outside of eBay. There are profits outside of eBay. There is LIFE AFTER EBAY!

And anyone is shocked why? This is typical eBay behavior: Treat the sellers as bad as they possibly can, all the while squeezing every last penny out of them.

We are going to put ads in your listing that take shoppes away from you and off eBay pages, YET you cant put in a URL, your email address and lots of other things.

Once again typical eBay LIES.

Who is "Uncle G"? (I refuse to pay for cable so I have no access to 'popular media'; if this refers to some show)

Thanks for the reminer to remove all my funds/listings/bids from the grasp of this evil man/corporation!

Gina, Uncle Griff has been with ebay since its inception and has a heavily edited weekly ebay radio show. He states he is an ebay seller advocate but that has always been pretty much debatable. I have never emailed him directly, but sometimes I heard he has helped others get results. I doubt anything can be done now with this current bunch of greedy, anal retentive bunch of execs looking only at their bottom line.

I really believe if any of these execs went on a family outing on a boat and the boat started to sink, they would save themselves first before their significant other and children. Yes I do believe those in higher positions working at eBay have succumbed so low.

Certainly there is life outside eBay.  Unfortunately, it is not a small scale competitor.  My own website would be great as it being lauded by several posters.  Just exactly where can one have their own website?  This piques my interest--to say the least!

@Anonymous Annie, please share with us about your website. Ideally, the site address. If you want to remain more secret about it, tell us what line of products you sell, how you drive traffic there, etc. Tips for those attached at the hip to a failing system, please.

Regarding the ads that are run on our listings. Yes, this is awful. Bad business for us and ultimately bad business for ebay driving people to another site to buy the same thing with less money in fees (I presume) made by ebay. If I owned ebay, it would first be about keeping the business on my site; 2nd treating my sellers well who really are my customers; 3rd making sure buyers are treated fairly and honestly.

I only have one ad on all my current listings, at the bottom, for ebay deals. Maybe because I sell OOAK items?

Oh!  Griff!  okay...
Say, I wonder if the non-reciprocating sellers got ads for sex toys in place of our listings.........  hehe  ;)

Yes, this is kind of a social marketing site....I would love to see other's web sites, to see how some who have left ebay have succeeded!
I can't make a site of my own....I did make one a year before a crosswalk accident erased all access to that memory!  I'm afraid to attempt to replace that information as my memory is now that of a 70-80 year old's!

Let’s face it, the time is slowly approaching when eBay will probably be making more money from those ads than they are making from FVFs on sales from the people who may look on eBay but no longer buy on eBay …

Once again, the headless turkeys that inhabit eBay’s executive suite are running around in circles, ever decreasing, at ever increasing speed, and we all know how that ultimately finishes up …

Ahhhh... at long last... my interest in (and resentment of) eBay is starting to wane.

My long-held anger and disappointment in eBay is being replaced with a growing disinterest. I'm starting to realize that NOT ONLY is eBay (itself) a waste of time and effort... but I'm also realizing that my anti-eBay rants are also a distraction from what would otherwise be productive time.

Don't get me wrong... I've enjoyed composing my rants. They've been therapeutic and soul-cleansing to just get it out of my system.

But now, every time I read something new (and awful) about eBay, my reactions are starting to surprise me. Things that would have set-me-off on another tear are met with a new reaction of ''ennh, what's new?'' and ''same-old, same-old''.

It's been a long journey. And almost two years after saying ''Goodbye, eBay'' I think I'm now ready to say ''Goodbye, resentment-of-eBay''. --- I'm just not caring anymore.

It looks like all of the resentment and disappointment that fueled my anger at eBay has consumed itself. There's little more than smoldering embers now. I'm all spent... and THAT'S A GOOD THING!!

As much as I've claimed that I ''moved on'' from eBay (literally, as a venue)... I can now claim that I have emotionally ''moved-on'' from eBay. (Sounds silly doesn't it? But it's true.)

I'll check in from time to time, or more often depending on the story. But ''Angry Anonymous Annie'' is starting to mellow-out. I need to do things that make me happier... and not the things that only rekindle old feelings about eBay.

Good luck everyone! I hope you all find success and prosperity in whatever you decided to do, or wherever you set up shop!

Best always, Annie
