Can Sellers Use Bonanza Importer without Violating eBay Policy?

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
I was hoping that maybe you or some of your followers had some information on this topic.

Based on the news that just came out that eBay has been manually demoted in Google search for committing policy violations of Google's user agreement (See EcommerceBytes Newsflash), I am now planning to quickly start selling on other venues to make up for the expected loss in revenue at eBay due to the Google dump.

The question I have centers around eBay's user agreement and the use of product listing importers like what Bonanza offers where a sellers eBay listings can be daily imported and updated to Bonanza.

I am concerned that using such listing importers is a violation of eBay's User agreement based upon the following quotation from eBay's user agreement.

"Using EBAY:"
"While using or accessing the Services you will not:
Use any robot, spider, scraper or other automated means to access our Services for any purpose"

Accordingly to Bonanza they claim that the importer it is an API access that is allowed by eBay.

I never trust anything eBay says and I could see other selling venues that offer listing importers may not have the knowledge or concern that a importing seller could take a policy violation, suspension or worse be demoted in eBay search for having used an importer to another selling platform.

Hoping you could shine some light on this or maybe ask someone at eBay.
Ina, Thank you for any info that you can share.
Sincerely,
MOG

any reports of eBay's demise are greatly exaggerated, including the agitation over the google fiasco. it will have some impact, but long run it will help honest sellers. google is only a part of eBay's business operations and model. the bottom line is that eBay's gmv and revenues in its marketplaces performed strongly in 2014q1. ebay is not tanking contrary to wishful thinking.

regarding bonanza and its use of eBay's api, give it a rest. bonanza is using an authorized accessed method to eBay's systems. how long that will last is anyone's guess, and I suspect feebay may attempt to stifle it. but if it does so, it enters a grey murkey area.

And I quote:

''the google fiasco....will have some impact, but long run it will help honest sellers...''

Someone has found a way to be smokin' da Kool-Aid.

Why I was compelled to snip bonn's comment is beyond me... Every word of it is ludicrous.

Now, pass dat Kool-Aid, will ya?

Puck has it right.

MOG I wondered the same thing with Bonanza's importer. I used the sync for a little while but any changes in revising and relistings on ebay would create duplicate listings on Bonanza with more work editing and deleting. I also wasn't sure if using Bonanza's importer would cause listings on ebay to be given decreased visibility in searches.

Frankly, I wouldn't bother with Bonanza.

It's little more than the a platform for Amazon ads and unless you're willing to play the social games of Bonanza sellers and pay for the most expensive store they have which nets little in return I didn't find to be worth my time or energy after one year.

Your mileage could differ.

Webstore is free to list and free to sell, although it may not have as much traffic as Bonanza. The point is, suspended sellers (and there is about to be untold thousands of them from the eBay Defect Rate) have to keep on selling somewhere. Ebay/PayPal have an unfair monopoly of online selling traffic due to unfair trade practices, and deep pockets largely obtained through illegal policies and actions towards small sellers.

Why bother with middleboys. Go direct with your own website.

I haven't been here in years, and I thought I would update you on what has happened to eMoviePoster.com in the years since I quit eBay completely in mid-2008 after auctioning 330,000+ items there (I sell a handful of items there each YEAR, just so they won't close my account).

2008 sales: $3,089,249.39
2009 sales: $3,302,423.00
2010 sales: $3,362,657.00
2011 sales: $3,543,243.00
2012 sales: $4,072,951.00
2013 sales: $5,133,181.00

So there IS "life after eBay". I just wish I had done it years earlier!"

Or be a "Tony".

I am going to be one of those suspended defect sellers. I have two more non-pays that are in resolution and they will counted as "item never received." against me. I have a choice, lose the fees, which in this case was about $8 or take the defects. I chose the defects. I am not paying ebay for items that never sold in the first place.

MING:

Bonanza does have a free subscription which is what I'm using. But I agree - wouldn't bother with Bonanza.

I've had stuff listed and NOTHING is moving!!! Lots of lookers, and that's it. The same with Webstore.

I'm taking my stuff to consignment shops. Simply put, Feebay has killed online auctions.

NETWATCH:

I have stuff listed on Webstore as well as Bonanza.

There's traffic on both sites, but that's it - traffic, no sales.

And I've noticed on Webstore, a lot of items I was interested in have no measurements and/or adequate descriptions.

Sounds like these sellers came directly from Feebay!!!

Taking my stuff to consignment shops and being done with online auctions, which Feebay has killed.

And who cares if importing stuff from Feebay violates their policy!!!!

People are tired of Feebay and moving stuff out of there because of their BS, policy changes and soon to be the holy grail of Feebay - the defect rating.

I have nothing listed on Feebay and nothing to lose regarding their importing/exporting policy, but my profile page is directing potential buyers to my listings on Bonanza and Webstore. Surprised Feebay's robots haven't caught that yet!!!

Unfortunately, nothing is moving on either site despite the traffic my items have received. Most of my in-season items have been taken to a consignment shop and have been selling, leaving mainly fall, winter & long-sleeved clothing items on the auction sites.

When Feebay starts paying my bills, then they can tell me when & where my listings can be imported!!!

Applaud Puck and e-pin is correct what do you think the big box retailers are doing on eBay. The inventory is one in the same on their .com's or overstocks, outdated liquidations are on eBay - eBay buyers are bargain hunters (free shipping, free returns, & refunds without purchase returns or it's bad seller extortion racket) meh...
