PayPal Not Logging Buyers out after eBay Transactions

By: Reader

Sponsored Link

Dear Ina,
When purchasing on eBay, linking one's eBay and PayPal accounts is allowed. I don't have a problem with this.

What I don't understand is why the PayPal account is not closed upon completion of the transaction. When I do my online banking, if I close the site, I am immediately logged out. Why does my PayPal account stay open? Is this safe?

If I shut down my computer, does my PayPal account stay open?  Maybe I have this wrong, but something just doesn't seem right.

Sincerely,
Claudia

It could be due to your settings--holding date in your cache longer, not signing out (the safest way to "leave" the site). When you try to activate the page again, does it ask you to sign out because your time as expired?

Oh--I wonder too if it isn't so eBay buyers can redirect back to eBay? Dunnoh--but it isn't open when you're PC is logged out.

Could the PP login session be persistent because someone remains logged-in to eBay?

If you close the PP site *and* the eBay site, are the results different?

You can always log out of PayPal manually.  PayPal will log you out after a certain period has passed without activity.

Real banks will automatically log you off immediately you leave the site; however, “PreyPal” is only a “pretend” bank with no statutory responsibilities to users or their deposited funds; but, such sites usually will remind you that if you are using a public computer you should manually "log off" otherwise that computer does remain "logged on" for a period of time; certainly that applies to the eBay site: some hours or so of non connection have to elapse before I am required to log back in again, although I have had to log into “PreyPal” every time I have wanted to make a “PreyPal” payment; then, I’m not making that many “PreyPal” payments anymore ... undoubtedly the details are available on the “PreyPal” website somewhere; you just have to dig deep to find them …

I noticed this about 9 months after using ebay. If I made couple of purchases, after the first one, the Paypal account was still logged. I even logged out of ebay, and went to Paypal. My account was already logged in.

That's when I realized that my account is open, so that after a transaction, I would go back to Paypal and log out, get back to ebay or other selling sites and then delete browsing history. (It's the cat in me. Do your business and cover it over)

PHILIP COHEN:  I like that "preyPal"!!!  That's because "preyPal" is owned by "pornBay".  See my post and messages from me and others under "eBay fails to remove obscene picture".  I'll have to make sure I log-out of it after I make a purchase or view my history.   I think there's a log-out button???

This is actually what has been happening for years:
- You make a purchase.
- Ebay asks you to log in to paypal to pay. A new page appears for paypal and not a new tab
- After payment is made you are redirected back to ebay.

Now if you open a new tab and got to paypal, there it is, you are still logged on. It should log you off after the browser is closed.

I still find this uncomfortable and mentioned this many years ago since this is not new.

This is based on my experience and nothing to do with settings on my end.

Basically when redirected back to ebay the sign out does not happen.

@MeTech,

The question then is, if you directly “return to eBay” after making a “PreyPal” payment, if you then subsequently close all your "eBay" browser windows and then reopen eBay (or “PreyPal”) again, are you still “logged on” to “PreyPal”, or has the subsequent closing of the eBay window(s) automatically logged off “PreyPal”?

Regardless, you always have to appreciate that “PreyPal” is not a real “financial institution” with statutory protections for its users, “PreyPal” is an unprofessional, unscrupulous, un-FDIC insured, virtually unregulated, (licensed in some places) “money transmitter” that only pretends to be a bank, while the lazy/corrupt U.S. banking regulator continues to look the other way from PreyPal’s atrocious record of merchant-payee complaints … http://bit.ly/UVXx53

And Carl Icahn seriously thinks that “PreyPal” has a better future if spun off from eBay? I think he must be equally as misinformed as eBay’s Johnny Ho is delusional … http://bit.ly/12xvzyA

Just what I thought.

It may be safe for FleeceBay.

Don't think it is same for ME!

I will not use the "fast checkout" linkup!!  It allows buyers to whip through checkout without bothersome passwords or Notes To Seller!

I also hate credit cards which don't make you sign for any transaction under $25!  Both are just asking for trouble!

You get logged out of your PayPal account if it's inactive for 15 mnutes.

Unless your computer is seized by terrorists who access your PayPal account within 15 minutes you will be safe.
