eBay Fails to Remove Obscene Picture

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
I have contacted eBay's Trust & Safety Department twice within a week (February 26th speaking with Caden, and March 3rd speaking with Yolanda) regarding the obscene picture of a nearly-naked and very busty woman engaged in a sexual act (you have to closely examine the picture and see a man's bare legs) and the inappropriate message in the profile of eBay member (redacted by EcommerceBytes).

Both times I called eBay, I was assured these items were going to be removed and the member's ID would be "flagged" so he wouldn't upload more obscene photos or submit another inappropriate profile message once these items were removed. I would have attached a picture of this, but it is probably considered his and/or eBay's property.

eBay has no problem with, and doesn't think twice about, removing an auction listing they feel is inappropriate or violates their precious policies, yet they have not removed this despite 2 complaints in one week???

I discovered this eBay member when he wrote me thru eBay's messaging system (which Trust & Safety is aware of) regarding a top I had for sale. In his message to me, he states he is a "figure photographer....my models range from FF-KK+ cup sizes, 36 to 40". my wife also is very busty, 38 HH cup." His profile message contains this and much more!!!!

He then asks me "is this your top, have you tried it on, does it fit you tightly, are you busty like my models/wife?" He then states he's "looking for a reference to decide if this is appropriate for it's intended eye-candy needs" and asks me "would a pic if (sic) it being worn possible?"

Being a seller, I answered him only because an "unanswered question" icon would continuously appear next to my item. I replied professionally, thanking him for his interest (in the top) and further answered his questions about the design of the top. I also replied "based on your models and your wife's measurements compared to mine, sorry to say but no, the top will not fit."

eBay and this member really has me disgusted!! I am not a prude by any means, but there is a time and place for everything and this does not belong on eBay. Wonder what the FTC would say about this!!!! Hmm!!!

Does anyone remember the tea kettle at eBay that had the reflection of a grotesquely large nude man at the PC? God that was funny.

In reply to REXFORD - You may want to re-read my entire message.  This person has ASKED ME TO MODEL THE TOP AND TAKE A PICTURE OF IT!!!!  What part of PERVERT don't you understand!!!!  Who knows how many other ebay members he has contacted with the same request because he's interested in their clothing for his "busty" broads!!!  I want to be sure this is removed as eBay has assured it will.  eBay will remove someone's listing without thinking TWICE because it may be worded incorrectly, but they let this GARBAGE stay on their site????  Would you like for a family member to stumble upon this picture and profile message by accident??   I have filed a complaint with the FTC - bet ya eBay scrambles NOW to get this off of there!!!!

Interesting that it is no longer possible to report photos that violate eBay policy.

In the report item drop downs, eBay recently removed the selection to report photos.

Ebay will pimp anything to make money for them.  Parents should block ebay sites to children.

Oh the horror. You answered him because him because he icon would stay? You are upset because of the photo on HIS listings.
How about ignoring messages you don't care for?
How about ignoring images you don't care for that you don't have to see????
Grow up.

In the early days on Ebay I had to change my seller name as it attracted these same freaks. My seller name had ''Barbie'' in it.  Not sure what the connection was, but every weird message mentioned the name ''Barbie''.  After I changed my seller name to something less interesting and boring, all the weird comments dried up. Go figure.

Well Ebay doesn't even remove items that are against policy.  Why would they care about a picture?  There is a specific rule that you can not list ''decanted'' perfumes on Ebay and I've called on dozens of listings and they never took them down.

Sad to see how some don't get it about the nastiness of all this. As a society our morals rate probably below a dogs in many cases. I was asked to read and review a book last year, that I couldn't finish as it was so pornographic. I stated that in my review. The author dissented because it wasn't any worse than being at a nudist camp and "I wouldn't object to that would I?". This author didn't know me at all so what made him think I would think that nudist camps were natural and normal. Could it be because he was from the UK and figured all people in the US were sexual perverts? What rocks do these people live under??? Very glad to hear that the OP took objection from this seller and as usual ebay doesn't do anything simply because sex sells and they aren't going to get rid of anything that brings in money. Sad commentary on our society.

MOONWISHES:   Sorry you had a horrible experience with the book. That author was WAY out of line in his comments to you, and you are so right - he doesn't know you, and I guarantee he wouldn't want to know me!!! There's nothing wrong with sexuality, etc. but there is a time and place for everything and ebay is NOT the time and place for someone to show a picture of his nearly-naked wife engaging in a sexual act!!  Who knows - may not be his wife!!  Might be one of his "busty models"!!  You are so correct in saying that eBay doesn't do anything to get rid of stuff that brings in money. Oh how I wish I could upload that picture here for all to see.  Thanx for your support!!!

Gypsy Witch, for future reference, there's a drop down menu, where you can choose "Mark As Answered," without actually answering the question. At least, it used to be an option. I haven't used it for a while, so maybe it's no longer there, but if it is, that's the best way to handle these types of questions.
