I didn't see this screen when I bought something on eBay week before last. I only had the option to pay with PayPal. However, that doesn't mean eBay hasn't changed their policy (again). They may be running some tests, since they're spinning off PayPal, to see if customers are still interested in using paper payments. It wouldn't be the first time eBay has backtracked on policy.

I've long since given up on eBay giving us prior notice when they make little tweaks and changes to their website. It seems like they change policy on a weekly basis. So glad I'm not selling on there anymore! And my buying days on eBay are numbered as well, since I'm slowly discovering other places to source the hard-to-find collectibles I like to buy and sell. I'm just not finding as many of those hidden gems on eBay anymore.

Sometimes I really do miss the old eBay. I was a late-comer, didn't start buying and selling on there until 2006. But I still get kind of sentimental sometimes, kinda like how I miss the old AOL. (Yeah, I know I'm aging myself now - LOL!) But everything changes, time marches on and, sadly, I have finally moved on.

Inconceivable! (Spoken in the voice of Wallace Shawn.) Could this be the signal that PayPal will no longer be forced on all sellers?

OK Ebay, If this is for real, this is a good start. Don't stop there. Keep going. Roll back all the other stupid changes too. Maybe instead of just hearing the "noise" you are actually listening to what the "noise" said. You have a golden opportunity right now to do the right thing toward sellers and you "may" be able to salvage the sinking ship. You have NO time to waste.

If Ebay and Paypal are separate, this would make sense. Paypal transactions would no longer be directly important to Ebay's bottom line.  Taking personal checks again would raise it.

If/when ebay allows sellers to accept payment methods other than paypal should not be considered a ''roll back'' as it really would not be.

Ebays is experimenting with other payment possibilities in preparation for after the split.

I would be very pleased to see ebay actually consider rolling things back but in reality, there is no going back. Ecommerce has evolved too far for ebay to go back to a format previously offered. Yes, it is wishful thinking but folks this is not going to happen.

Ebay needs to keep up with Amazon and other large eCommerce sites where buyer rule.

One could say ebay is in deep ''do-do'' which would be hard to disagree with, they are indeed trying to save the sinking ship but for those who really hope they might roll back old policy, as much as it might suck to read this, they are not going to go backwards.

If ebay is going to be a viable place for sellers, they have to find their place in the sun. Perhaps they might roll back some of their evil policies to something more acceptable but the old ebay is gone for good.

Hopefully they can resurrect the site to work for those who cannot break away and do their own thing without ebay.

@XANDER----

Really--the tone was un-needed.  There are many sellers whose stock-in-trade is NOT easily sold on Amazon or ETSY or the like.

Sellers who specialize in clothing;  certain One Of A Kind items; people who sell in "High risk" electronics etc have NO OTHER PLACE TO GO---and hosting their own web site might not be feasible.

I sell higher end brand name gently used and nw sportswear and gear--items I find at various stores etc.  Also some motorcycle parts for a rare bike model.

Npw--these are NOT items I end up with more than ONE of (except the bike parts) Sooo--how DO you run a web site for these things?  I am not asking out of snide-ness--I am dead serious.  I would LOVE to break FREE of ebay---and I just don't see HOW.

Many buyers left ebay when sellers were no longer allowed to state in the payments options they accepted checks and/or money orders but could accept them if the buyer asked.

Ebay, the name here in convolution!

Many people wisely concluded years ago that PayPal simply wasn't as safe and secure as Ft. Knox.

Having successfully conditioned former buyers their declasse paper payments were no longer welcome on this Donahoe declared upscale marketplace, ebay is going to have advertise to bring these folks back.

Ebay didn't die overnight. It died a death a thousand cuts, and this was just one of them.

I have always like Paypal, but now with the 180 day return privilege, I am ready to jump ship. I emailed Paypal and the rep stated it would be 180 days. I asked what protection sellers had for those who would use or wear things for 6 months. Reply was "the 180 days stand to make a better market." I asked about seller protection twice and the reply was about the same. So the return policy stands, regardless of use or abuse by buyers. You have to wonder what CEOs have growing their brains that the rest of don't have because I can't see a normal person conducting business in this fashion.

Makes perfect sense.  If they are splitting off PP the incentive to push as much business through them as possible is gone.  It would be very nice to have the options back.

eBay has always accepted payments other than PayPal in certain categories, like adult section and motors for two.

Without knowing what Robin was purchasing it's hard to say if this is a new screen or simply an option the writer is unaware exists.

Well here is the catch/example if they bring back paper payments:

Jackass buyer buys your item today, contacts you 5 days later, says I am mailing check, I say ok

US Postal Snail Mail, takes 6 more days to get it to you, now you have to deposit personal check, and wait what a week or 2 till it clears your bank ?

Then you ship it out, snail mail it gets there a week later

So now from time it was bought till received, maybe 3 or 4 weeks pass

Jackass Buyers rates you a 1 star on shipping time

BINGO ! Donahoe has F*CKED us over again !

The Deck is stacked, Wenig needs to undo the DSR BS, and stick them up Doanohoes back side as he walks out the door !

Donahoe has stacked the deck against us sellers on every possible angle !

I believe this man got his jollies thinking of ways to put it to the sellers on every angle !

@LDS Brother - The days of a check taking two weeks to clear are long gone. When I get checks for sales on eCrater, it has never taken more than four business days for a check to clear, even when it's from across the country. The secret to accepting checks is to keep in touch with the buyer. When I get an order indicating payment by check, I immediately e-mail the buyer and explain that I cannot mail their item until their check has cleared my bank, and give them a deadline within which I must receive their payment. When I receive the check, I e-mail the buyer again and advise them when the check will be deposited. And when I mail the item, I e-mail the buyer again with the tracking number. I have never received bad feedback because of a person sending a check for payment and their item not shipped immediately.

So if Fleecebay grants us the holy right to accept checks and I change all my auctions to checks only....will this mean Fleecebay will no longer have control over any of my money as far as refunds to losers and scammers????

I think Fleecebay letting us take checks again is a long stretch of the imagination. Nice but hardly going to happen...

Fleecebay isn't happy unless they have total control.

Also what makes one think that just because Fleecebay and Preypal are going to go their seperate ways that their won't be an agreement that Fleecebay continue Preypal only for the next 5 years.

If only I thought, ebay has started to change their ways...

This is a desperate company in serious deep trouble, willing to do anything to turn their disgraceful ruthless company around..

Maybe they should add Food to the list.

With any ''normal'' company this would be fine, with ebay it's just another trap, to terminate more sellers, this thing has seller defect written all over it

I find it incomprehensible than anyone with an internet connection is still sending paper checks via snail mail ...

I don't have a cheque book any longer and I've not laid eyes on a cheque for possibly ten years ...
