Favorite Sellers Not Selling on eBay Anymore

Dear Ina,
Not a real big item but interesting change on eBay.

I have been a long time seller and occasional buyer. I have a list of saved sellers, for a couple of reasons. There are certain sellers I like to buy items from. There are also sellers that sell the same type of items as mine. I like to gauge my competition.

I have been selling since 2000 on eBay so my list of saved sellers was near 100. Until a few days ago if a seller did not have any items for sale a purple line would be underneath their handle stating they currently have 0 items for sale. I noticed that as of a couple of weeks ago 75% of my saved sellers did not have any items for sale. Lots of little purple lines.

Many with over 10,000 transactions. My sales have dropped dramatically with a decline last December. Normally my best month for sales. So I decided to check my saved sellers to see how many sales they had. Interestingly, the purple mark has disappeared and it no longer shows that a seller that has no items for sale.

It now appears everyone is selling away. However when clicking on the saved seller over 75% still did not have items for sale. A majority of these were high volume sales numbers. I believe that it was making eBay look bad with a majority of old sellers with stores bailing out.

One of the most interesting facts I noted on one of my favorite sellers. Last month a little over 10,000 listings. The number of transactions showing feedback came in at 299. I realize they may have had more actual sales as feedback does not show all transactions. However selling 3% of inventory is not a good ratio.

I mentioned it to an eBay rep while on a call concerning a different issue. He stated the fees would be more than the saved seller would sell!!!!!!!!!

He also stated it is not up to eBay to make sales for sellers. I have to agree they are doing their best on that.

Many sellers with huge feedback scores do not have any items listed.
Hope you find this interesting.
Paul

This is no surprise. As with many times before, ebay will alter a page to hide the fact that sellers are not happy and have left.

We're close to gone as well, only 25% of what we were last year and even less from the year before and such.

We refuse to buy there anymore. Just not interested in contributing to JD's bloated salary.

Ebay is just another greedy corporation which will not consider reform until they feel the bite of major lost revenue.

I found it interesting to get a notice on a SAVED SEARCH that an item I was looking for had a BID on it "Current Bid Price....)  but when I went to look at the item there was NO bid--the amount ebay would have you believe is a BID was just plain n simple the START price!!!!

And yes--I too have seen many many of my Saved Sellers have NO items for sale for quite some time--and when you go look at FB on other peoples accts you see the same endless numbers of NO LONGER A REGISTERED USER or if you see an interesting item or name and you click thru--poof!  Gone.

Sad.  Killing the Golden Goose-how and who does THIS prifit?????

I had 100 favorite sellers saved  since 2002, in my seller account, in my purchase account I had another 100 sellers, I was surprised to see that in one of them I had to remove 93 sellers GONE! and in the other one 84 sellers no longer active, from fashion, media and electronics. What is worst, my competitors had 6 million listings in 2008, the whole eBay category where I sell, now, there is 290,000 items, down from 6 million, I had a good 200 strong competitors, today I have 22.  The main reasons?

A) Abusive buyers
B) eBay excessive changes & tricks
C) seller limitations

When I say seller limitations folks I mean Selling Caps, this is not Listing Limitations. eBay has been putting a cap to how much we can sell, for us is always 700 dollars a day, we can sell 30 items or 65 items, but never more than 700 hundred, we have a pause of up to 8 hours if we start selling a lot early in the morning, then we will not see any sales until late at night, but if we have a slow morning then we sell a lot at night. People don't just all get together and say "lets shop or not shop". Our listings become invisible for hours, we have screenshots from buyers. By the way, we have 1500+ returning buyers so that is plenty to do sales all day, but as I mentioned, this has to be the worst reason why sellers are leaving, no matter how much you work on eBay, how much bad stuff you take from ebay and buyers, your sales will not change, at least in a very long time. Check your sales and you will see. I mean for sellers that have many items listings, the occasional seller will never notice any caps.

READ THIS EBAY!!!!

What you have above is a buyer who is lamenting that her FAVORITE sellers are gone.  Got that?  Her FAVORITE sellers.  Not the Best Buys, not the Skull Candy and not any of your sellers of Chinese junk.

If you won't listen to your sellers, listen to your buyers.  This speaks volumes.

"I mentioned it to an eBay rep while on a call concerning a different issue. He stated the fees would be more than the saved seller would sell!!!!!!!!! "

It is possible that the listings were made during a promotion - and the CSR was clueless as usual.

Peace.

Why should anyone list when the items are not seen.  Sales take a dive.  Any guess why they are not selling on ebay anymore???? Large or small - no sales - move on.
Prediction, JD and board will take all the money any way possible from ebay. Through stock options and or bonus salaries etc.. When they can no longer use smoke and mirror or get called on the so called numbers, they will break up and sell for parts and run with the millions they have stripped from a viable going concern.
What's the difference between Madoff & JD ?

May 1 was the beginning of the end for a lot of sellers...me included.  I spent April dumping as much high dollar inventory as I could...now getting ready to close the store.

I tried in vain to get ebay to justify these ungodly fees for high auction sellers and they are just not interested.  They are greedy beyond comprehension.

Well I hope they do fail miserably.  This is one seller who will no longer be giving them any of my my hard-earned money.  I was a good and faithful seller making them lots of money the last 10 years, but I can only get kicked down so many times.

The ultimate answer to this greedy corporation is for a competitor to rise.  Now is the time for a few disenfranchised employees to start a competing auction online.  You will make a mint because there are so many sellers just waiting to dump this greedy company.  Simply use the ebay auction model from 10 years ago and you will become the next Bill Gates.

Now is the time in history to make this happen.

So long ebay...you had something good going but your greed got the best of you.

Please don't boo me off the map, but is it possible that the link behind your favorite seller search is out of date? Once some of my customers said they couldn't find me anymore--it was something to do with the bookmark or what not being old-old. ???

It certainly isn't surprising to me that letter writer Paul is not finding a lot of his saved sellers since it has become increasingly difficult to be prosperous on eBay. Between rolling blackouts, directing potential buyers away from listings, higher fees, customer service reps who fail to provide customer service, and buyers who want everything for free, the frustration level of selling on eBay has to be at an all-time high and rising. Just today I was buying an item on eBay that I had been looking for, and I must have seen a half dozen different messages that my purchase was fully covered by their Buyer Protection Plan, including return shipping, so it's not surprising that there so many dishonest buyers on the site.

Its not just the sellers that are gone.  I put an item up on auction.  It got 7 views and ended up unsold.  Put it elsewhere and poof!  Its sold!  There is NO traffic on Ebay!  THAT is the bottom line.

If ebay was smart (hahahahaha!) they would have gone through all the saved seller lists and perhaps done promotions for those mentioned, since being "favorites" usually means buyers like those sellers and are interested in returning to them. It's one simple factor indicating the "best" sellers, as opposed to whatever convoluted algorithm they're using this week to determine that. I suppose it requires common sense to think that way, though, and that's something ebay left by the wayside years ago.

We too have been selling on eBay for over 12 years, have sold over 1.3 million in products. We have ended all of our listings this month and taking a 4 month sabbatical just to plan for the future. Don't know that we will go back. However, we are solutions oriented. I would like to hear what others have found to be another viable solution. Where are the sales reports on other sites? Where have others moved to? How does one find out about marketing strategies that actually work for your own website. We want solutions. Are others willing to share what they believe the best alternative would be to selling on JD's site?

Congratulation for your bravery.

For those who are still here...

Since Cassini, businesses are now down 50%.

Thank you, greedy JD.  Why did you salary jumped 50%?

JD's goal is to limit small American Seller monthly income enough to pay their monthly dues.

They don't want you to leave with your valuable items and sell them elsewhere.

Yes bluegrass, you are correct on this! The implementation would be easy. The very difficult part would be the policing of the site. Settling disputes, too, would be difficult. If I had the resources, I would go for it.

And are you surprised so many sellers have left? There's just the normal number of busineses that quit (retirement, sickness, banruptcy). But combine that with a site as Ebay: insertion fees, selling fee, PayPal, ripped of by buyers, lack of visibility, immer declining profit margins, increasing workload to just add a listing and constant new rules with only one goal: punish you as a seller.

The biggest and best e-commerce site in the world in just 2 years transformed to a warzone. As a business you can't plan your future, Ebay is constantly changing the goalposts. A product that sells well, can stop selling from one day to another. Not because it went out of fashion but because Ebay made the so maniest ''improvement'' making your item - or even better - you as a seller completely invisible.

This company is making me completely sick, literally.I had a great business. Ebay decided to change this. From one day to another I lost my traffic and sales. To make it completely frustrating in my categery I'm the only seller affected. Sales are less than 10% of what they have been.

I'm loosing sleep about this. Contacted Ebay serveral times about it. Was friendly, insultive, begged, threathened with a lawyer. The only thing Ebay can say is ''We're aware there's a problem but can't find it. Please have some more patience''. This has now been going on for months and months.

So completely fed up that that I'm considering quitting my business. I already no longer use the site as a buyer. I'm really thinking about having a big sell out and close down everything. If I have to continue like this as I've been doing for the last half year I'll end up in a hospital with a stroke, a cardiac arrest or just because I did something to myself.

So thank you JD and Ebay managent. By ruing peoples business you're also ruing lives. I hope you still sleep well at night, as I no longer do since months.

We've been gone from Ebay for almost 4 years and we get the same thing from our former customers asking us why we left.  The unfortunate truth is the Ebay had made it more than difficult to provide low prices and quality service for our customers.  Raising the rates caused items to go higher and the new star system caused people to try to take advantage of us to get free stuff or additional discounts by threats.  Paypal only transactions gave Ebay additional revenue by force and they subsequently cut off our method of credit card processing.  We were a Gold Powerseller for years and we always had free shipping since we opened in 2001....and we still do.  But Ebay simply wanted more and more until we decided to simply leave and open up our own ecommerce websites to sell goods.  Maybe things will change but we're never going to go back there again to sell.  While we understand that Ebay has to make a profit, it doesn't give them a right to exploit a business.

This all started last April when they launched the ebay mobile app, if you look on the mobile at listings you get far less results than you do on a computer. Or if you go on google chrome you get 25% more listing than on FF or IE. If you run any completed listing search go back to April 6th, prior to that solid sales, after they get spotty. That is not normal, do it, any search completed. That is when they finalized the site change worldwide. Begining of April.
