eBay Wears Down Seller with Chronic Over-Billing on Store Invoice

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
I was hoping you could bring something to the attention of your readers without using my identity.

When eBay changed their store models and pricing we opted in early for an anchor store that provided 2500 items with no insertion fee for $179 a month.

Ever since that day, every month I have to call eBay to have them remove small charges, sometimes only $.15 but other months even more. We always get the credit with a different explanation from eBay but we have never gone over 2460 active listings. Still, if I didn't check our invoices carefully, we would be charged this small fee every month. I wonder how many other sellers are being charged small fees and what they would add up too.

You can contact me for more information but simply I am getting tired of taking the time out every month to get my small credit if only because I don't want eBay to have it.

They are wearing me down to the point that sometimes I just don't feel like calling and waiting for them to "look into it."
Sincerely,
M.

Call me an old cynic... but I believe that this is their intention.

I have little doubt that eBay execs view this as a cheap and effective way to pad their bottom-line. They are COUNTING on sellers not noticing the odd 15-cents added to the invoice.

And if noticed, they are COUNTING on sellers to figure it's just not worth their time to spend an hour on the phone trying to chase-down the dollar that was overcharged on their bill.

Frankly, I know that MY time is worth more than a dollar an hour! So even though I'd loathe the thought of eBay getting one penny that they didn't deserve... I'm also very unlikely to waste my time (and lose even more money) trying to recover an overcharged dollar.

In the end, eBay wins... more free money.

Also... if they do get called-out on it... eBay is always in a position to use the plausible excuse of blaming it on a ''glitch'' of some sort.

Odd that these ''glitches'' never (EVER) work out to benefit the Seller. --- Or if there ever has been a glitch that favored the seller... we never hear about it because eBay will FIX IT IN A FLASH!

Yet, the other glitches are fixed at their own pace... with very little sense of urgency or fairness involved.

Go figure.

ebay CHEATING is a never ending story.

ebay does not know how to be honest about anything.

If we did even 25% of the things to our customers that ebay does to their (sellers) ebay punishes us, but when ebay does it, it is no big deal.

I HATE ebay more and more every day.

I have been trying to get ebay to correct my bill of over $270 for a month now but they will not.  They want me to pay the EXTRA $$270. CS has tried to fix it through the system but it rejects everything they do, even though they can see the error.  Instead they are now telling me that if I do not pay the bill my account will be suspended.

When a CEO is as ethically corrupt as John Donahoe, it should come as no surprise that the ethical corruption permeates every facet of dealing with eBay.

John Donahoe has broken just about every promise he has ever made to sellers. His promises are broken with such consistency that he no longer makes any.

Lie: "Sellers were promised DSR's would never be used against them", yet sellers are being "purged" on a monthly basis while others are relegated to invisibility in search due in large part to the DSR ratings.

Lie: "Seller facing changes will be rolled out in cycles with advance notice to sellers". Changes are rolled out as fast as eBay can program them. Many are detrimental to the buying and selling experience on eBay yet the hits just keep on coming and sales are not increasing.

I could go on, but what's the point?

Suffice it to say, the lack of ethics and integrity displayed by eBay's inept management is exceeded only by their complete lack of experience is conducting business day in and day out in the marketplace they are systemically dismantling and destroying.

What more could anyone possibly say—other than that eBay is not simply unethical in the extreme, it is demonstrably criminal ... http://bit.ly/11F2eas

It's sort of like what some credit card scammers do. Rather than take large, very noticeable amounts from a small number of victims, they take tiny amounts from many thousands.

Ric lets face it, no business runs a business the way ebay has in the past several years. They want small sellers to leave.

ebay has to get the big box retailers on board. That is why he pushes Free Shipping and managed returns.

How many small sellers are going to file sales tax in every states. I hear they are going to push the fair sales tax in another spending cut bill and it won't hurt the big box retailers one bit.

The small sellers they are bringing on board will be the first to leave if they have to deal with sales tax. ebay has to get rid of the sellers that are not afraid to compete with the larger retailers. This means seller like your self and many of the others. ebay has not done one thing to help the sellers to compete.

If they can't clean up ebay so these big box retailers come on board, ebay could become a thing of the past as we know it.

@ed---

ebay as we KNEW it is already a thing of the past----

and has been since the day sellers were castrated by not being able to leave NEGATIVE FEED BACK for their deadbeat buyers.

Now there have been a host of seller UNfriendly changes since then but that one thing taught the Ho that he could get away with ANYTHING and no one would do a THING to stop him.

Every seller on ebay should have walked right then and there.

If we had only known what lesson WE taught him!

It really is time for Michael Moore or John Stossel or Morgan Spurlock to take an investigative journalist's look into ebay...
