Why Are eBay Orders Coming from Amazon and Walmart?

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
I buy on eBay, but lately everything I bought came from Amazon. When I go to Amazon and look for the item, it is listed at less than what I paid for on eBay.

Sometimes it could come from Walmart and it is sold on Walmart for less than what I paid for on eBay.

I am beginning to think I should just skip eBay and go straight to Walmart or Amazon.

Does eBay care? Is eBay doing anything about it?

One seller said 99% of eBay listings belonged to retail arbitragers, which I don't think it is true.

I would like to hear your comments,
Ohcalcutta

As long as eBay allows for drop shipping they can't create policy that blocks Wal-Mart, Amazon or any other fulfillment that creates exclusionary conduct.

Personally I would imagine the customer would benefit from any of the big companies fulfillment. Think of the coupons.  Amazon could randomly drop the golden wonka. Gift card!!! Even if its a buck it all adds up!

Easy answer. No brainer. I ship everything from either walmart or Amazon. And I don't care what kind of box they use as long as the customer gets their item. Now find something else more important to compain about.

I recycle Amazon boxes all the time. But, in accordance with the USPS guidelines, I take a thick black marker and cover all barcodes and "Smiles" so the recipient knows that the package is not coming from Amazon.

What monsters the river and the bay have become. There is enough stress in life without dealing with either one of them.

Selling something and getting paid for it and THEN buying it elsewhere cheaper and having it sent to your buyer (often as a "gift" using free shipping with a Prime account) is NOT retail arbitrage.

Retail Arbitrage is BUYING something at retail for cheaper than you can sell it.It's actually HAVING inventory on hand, not hoping it's still available to buy after you've sold it.

Drop Shipping is NOT against the Ebay rules.  Retail Arbitrage is.

From Ebay's policy:

Drop shipping, where you fulfill orders directly from a wholesale supplier, is allowed on eBay. Remember that if you use drop shipping, you’re still responsible for the safe delivery of the item within the time frame stated in your listing and for the buyer’s overall satisfaction with their purchase.

However, listing an item on eBay and then purchasing the item from another retailer or marketplace that ships directly to your customer is not allowed on eBay.

"Retail Arbitrage is BUYING something at retail for cheaper than you can sell it."

You are correct except the price doesn't matter.  It is RA when you purchase from another seller on any site to send it to your buyer.

“ I don't care what kind of box they use as long as the customer gets their item.”

Notwithstanding recycling, which is a fine thing if you like the thought of your decendants breathing, this is not about the box.

Wasn’t there an AZ seller a few threads over on one of the Immediate Pay discussions who was concerned that AZ doesn’t have any way to enforce IPR, except for cancelling the order, which seriously dings their ‘customer satisfaction’ score?

Seems there are arbitrage flavored sellers on (ahem) other venues who  ‘’borrow’ an AZ listing’s attributes to create their own listing (ahem) elsewhere, then they ‘buy’ dozens of AZ items and let them fester unpaid until THEIR item sells (ahem) elsewhere, and THEN they pay for it on AZ for shipping to THEIR buyer’s address.

So there’s plagiarism, potential copyright infringement, selfish handcuffing of another seller’s inventory, and ‘overlooked’ false advertising (item not ‘on hand’ per policy) - not to mention the (who cares?) end buyer’s confusion - all packed inside that ‘box’.

Regardless of whose logo it bears on arrival.

Does any of THAT qualify as “more important to complain about”?
