eBay Inserts Rival Listings Ahead of Item Description

It’s simple math.. as eBays market share diminished, they need to extract more money from the remaining players.

The one that bothers me is when I’m logged in and view my own listings, and see ads for my own stuff. You know they are charging me for those!

I don't even see them anymore.

My mind has learned to ignore them.

But now that I look it's a mess, why would they do this?

As a buyer on eBay it's not necessary to pollute the page to get me to buy, I'm on the site to BUY. . . . .

I would think that if you have a good description, with a good photo, a low price and shipping you don't have anything to worry about because most buyers will just scroll back up. BUT if your a seller with a fuzzy picture, two word description, high price and obscene shipping charges you might want to take the hint. Or you can just whine and see if someone cares.

Most of Ebay's so called better sellers sell upwards of 20,000 a month. Ebay considers 10,000 a year to be habby sellers and noise as it costs more to service the whines than they want to spend.

@sierra- just dont forget to view 'promoted sales' as the rate increase on a store, that it really is.
...just like 'free shipping' means the customer doesnt have to pay 'added' shipping charges

the day i pay to promote a listing, is the day i donate money to the federal government or the IRS or the $3 (wow, that was $1 forever) for the presidential campaign on the 1040

@ AddyUp, eBay charges FVF on shipping because when they didn't, sellers were charging 99¢ for the item and $50 for shipping to circumvent the FVF. I don't see any way for eBay to avoid it, unless they handled shipping the way Mercari does: you get a very limited set of options and if the package is bigger/heavier than the label you chose will cover, you get charged extra later. Imagine how THAT scheme would go over!

I don't mind paying FVF on shipping since I don't see a (realistic) alternative. But I think it's too high. And they are charging FVF on sales tax, which IMO should be illegal.

I don't mind ebay nickel and diming me.
BUT...they're $1 and $2 dinging me...for WHAT?... (I know...bottom line)
Those charges add NOTHING to their service.
Why not be honest and charge a flat 15%?

I've been selling on eBay for 25 years also. I noticed the ads before my description  a few months ago and it's simply wrong. I pay for promoted listing also, but I don't think it's right to try and steer a customer away from my listing or anybody else's listings. It really creates a race to the bottom. If I'm selling an item for $100 and a customer can see the same item for $90 before they get to the description it will steer them away. eBay needs to get rid of this ASAP.
