Etsy Stirs the Pot with Reminder to Leave a Review

It’s much more important how an Etsy transaction SHOULD be.  As in none of their business.  Especially when the ‘business’ has been concluded.

Like most things - it can cut both ways

Reminding a buyer a week later to "review you" can put a seller in a very bad position if ANYTHING goes/went wrong.

This is where Mercari shines - after 3 or 4 days (forget which) the sale is given a positive review and 5 stars.

They know (like eBay knows but pretends they dont) that sellers on eBay warranty their items for ALL reasons.

If you get an item thats %100 what was advertised, yet you dont like the color or the size or they have a no returns policy, that "reminder" means they get to extract ANY type of revenge.

Since I dont sell on Etsy, I dont know how it works - but from what I read HERE, they are eBays sleazy cousin and that would make ME nervous ....

Etsy is very pushy about Reviews, and as a buyer, I find this very annoying. When I have something delivered from an Etsy Seller, Etsy immediately asks me for a Review, and continues to throw up a reminder, on my homepage, for days.

I get the impression that Etsy feels that recent “review” activity generates more business for Sellers and Etsy. And now that sales on Etsy have slowed (as per their latest quarterly report) it looks bad to potential buyers when Sellers appear to have no recent activity.

Whenever I get a Review, my activity increases, and this is Etsys’ algorithm, in the works.  Etsy wants Reviews to generate more business.

I quit buying on Etsy, if I see something I like I check to see if the seller has a website and buy from there instead.  If the seller doesn’t then unfortunately they’ve lost a sale.

Etsy sends review prompts BEFORE a purchase is delivered and sends several subsequent reminders until the buyer caves, often frustrated by the spam, leaving a bad review. Etsy continues with the rookie moves, always to the detriment of the seller.

Etsy harasses buyers with review requests - really stupid and dumb! Enough said. Everything they do punishes sellers in some way  and then they tell you how WONDERFUL THEY ARE - USING THE FUNDS THEY SQUEEZE OUT OF SELLERS TO IMPROVE THEIR WEBSITE. I guess they must be loaded with WOKE FOLKS - the ones with no brains who think they are so smart yet they mess up every last thing they do.  They have gotten worse and worse while they take more and more money from sellers.  This last year on Etsy has been a disaster with all their "new" introductions at a time when my sales are dropping by 50% or higher because people are spending their money on necessities - like GAS and FOOD.  The CEO is pitiful.

There are no orders "from Etsy" since Etsy doesn't ship orders. SMH.

Etsy, I like selling on your marketplace, but it's MY business, not yours.

@Sierra I'm with you 110%... it's my business - Etsy is only a platform to sell on.
