Dear Ina,
I think eBay is spot checking people that send items without tracking.
We had an item that was a flat item that went out first class mail, it was for $8 or something item, if we lose it, we lose it you know? It was sent first class mail with no tracking. We haven't had a lost package or letter in over 4 years.
So a few weeks later, we get an email from eBay stating
-
XXXXX has filed a payment dispute outside of eBay about an order that was placed on Dec XX, 2021. This means the buyer has disputed a charge directly with their payment provider.
The reason was transaction not recognized.

So we message the buyer and told them what happened and she responded just as confused as we were.
Buyer responded right away and has continued to respond. I tend to believe her because it's a low cost item why would she engage in fraud over $8 or whatever. Buyer told us "We never asked for a chargeback?, I never got a refund from eBay?, nor did I ask for one. I have the item and using it, happy with it. This is strange!"
I sent this message to eBay and since it only had a first class postage and no tracking, they decided in the buyers favor but didn't reimburse the buyer, they still show the charge on their end.
What we think is happening here is eBay is spot checking sellers who send without tracking and coming up with a fake reason like a chargeback OR the buyer is lying to us but she has been very cooperative and messaging us back every time, even as mad as we are because she doesn't know what to make of this?
I hope eBay isn't playing some games. Yea, the buyer could be lying but the whole thing is strange!
Again, I would never do this for expensive items, this was a flat item under $10 and can eat the loss but this thinking was based on eBay being honest with everyone. Perhaps the buyer is not being honest and I get that too.
The whole thing is weird. Then you have eBay not perhaps researching this and checking to see if the seller did get a refund or not.
Just bad business on everyone's part including me for not sending this with tracking I know but now the buyer and eBay are involved all because of a chargeback that the buyer states she didn't do but eBay tells me she did.
Another day on eBay I guess. lol
