Is Etsy Penalizing Sellers for Postal Holiday Delays?

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
I've been getting the email at the bottom from Etsy a week or two after every USPS holiday lately. Etsy doesn't take US postal holidays into account, and even when it's a postal holiday, they tell me I have to ship on that postal holiday.

I sell vintage items there and I ship 6 days a week (1-day handling). Same-day if the order comes in before 10am. But, you can't ship when USPS is closed for national holidays.

I've NEVER shipped a package late with Etsy. I'm wondering if my account is taking a hit for their backwards running system that doesn't take national holidays into account?

Message from Etsy: "The personal touch you add to your items is what makes them meaningful. We know that special takes time, and we've also noticed recently that you've been shipping orders a little later than the processing time in your listings."

Dear OP,

back in May, etsy sent me a message to change my handling times to 1-3 day processing times.

Like you, I usually ship the next day, or same day if I am off of work and the P.O. is open.  (my setting is for 3-5 days just in case some problems come up)

Etsy sent me the message as a suggestion because I was already shipping in a relatively fast timeframe.  There have been MANY compliments in my reviews reflecting the service.

The point is, etsy made that suggestion because I was already serving at a standard above my statement.  They just wanted to take the credit for the way I run my business.

So I sent them a message back stating that my business and the reviews are of MY own standards and efforts alone, and THEY have nothing to do with it.
I asked them to do something REALLY productive with their time.  And I left it at that.

I know it seems rude, but their suggestions and games are just as rude, if not a big joke as they really think that they are the ones who are running the (our) business(es).

They are lucky to have you OP, and don't let them push you around this way.
Like many posters here have said, Etsy does suck!  (shout out to The End)
More like the dumb-a$$es who run it do.  They are incredibly stupid, and annoying.

But for me, it's the only way I can make my store relevant enough until I can open up my own site.

Best of luck to you, and like a snowball effect, I hope sales keep turning in for all of us.

99% of my Etsy items ship at or before the processing time in my listings, and I've been getting those extremely annoying emails repeatedly also.

It's pretty obvious there's no real issue and that they are just sending the notices to everybody.

They probably plan to introduce some new draconian Ebay-esque 'must be scanned within your handling time' requirement that the post office will refuse to do and that'll cause us all endless grief and misery.

I received an email last week from Etsy congratulating me on fast shipping but I should change my handling time to be shorter.  I have it set to 1-2 days, like y'all it is so nice to have a buffer just in case.

I feel like Etsy is applying unnecessary pressure to a small business;  run by a single person with a lot of different tasks to do every single day.  Especially if you have more than one shop or if you are on multiple platforms.
