Reader Pushes Back on Coverage of Amazon Testimony

Dear Ina,
There is a falsehood in the July 29 Bezos article, "The following excerpt explains how Bezos believes Amazon was able to surpass eBay" (link to blog post).

That is false. The statement is not what Bezos believes. It is what he wants us to think he believes.

When you help him to make us think that, you are cooperating in any lies he may tell. He has a definite agenda before Congress, and his job in testifying is to play a role from a script, not to tell anyone what he "believes".

This may sound like a nitpick, but it is not. It is critical that readers understand that there can be a significant difference between Bezos' script and his actual beliefs.

Thanks as always for your great work.
Peter

Amazon DOESN'T exist in my world.

I just can't go down that river!

@Peter

How do you know what Bezo's actually believes?  And if you know, what does he actually believe and how do you know that is fact?

It is inconceivable that Bezos, or anybody else with an agenda, would lie to further that agenda.  Nobody in the history of the world has ever said one thing and done another!

In other news, we have always been at war with Eurasia.

Agendas are common place.  Not just for businesses and those that run them but in every day life.  I think it is a pretty safe bet that someone as successful in business as Bezos has his agenda too on all kinds of different things and this is likely one of them.

I have no idea if he would go as far as committing a federal offense by lying in front of Congress.  I don't know near enough about the man to even have any idea if that is feasible.  I also don't know if he was even lying.  I don't necessarily agree with what he said but that doesn't mean I think he was lying.  I simply don't agree with him.

I don’t know if Bezos was lying either, but lying in front of Congress and by Congress has become a commonplace occurrence.  It’s all for show so we, their “subjects”, will think they’re actually doing something besides lining their own pockets at our expense.
