Car Buyer Frustrated by eBay Cancellations

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
I appreciate your site. I have made about 650 successful purchases through eBay including several cars. I have 100% positive feedback.

Here's a problem I feel is significant and bordering on fraud: If a SELLER lists a car or truck with no minimum price, and if that car or truck is going to sell BELOW MARKET, and time is running out, the listing is often cancelled.

I have had this happen 5 times.

I realize your site is primarily honest information for eBay Sellers, but buyers need some assistance as well.
Thanks,
Rod

First off ALL BUYERS HAVE 100% FEEDBACK. Nothing to brag about. Sellers are not allowed to leave negative feedback.

Cars and Real Estates on eBay are two categories where bids and offers are NOT BINDING.

I stopped reading after he started his letter with "I am a buyer with 100% feedback."

In all reality....buyer has a right to change his mind before the listing ends.

Typo...the seller (but....as does the buyer by retracting a bid).

There used to be a reserve price. Or still is. You just have to pay to use it now. Where before it was free or didnt cost much. Now it does.

I dont know how much of this relates and has to do with selling cars on ebay. But it may just be there way of having a reserve price but not paying ebay for it.

Another fee ebay decided to add, and is probably one of the biggest things that destroyed auctions. Oh well, there goes 85% of the average joe's selling their used items they no longer need out of their house.

Midst all this grouching about a BUYER ONLY not realizing that 100 percent positive is just plain pointless.... lets move ON to the way any seller who ENDED their Auto Auction EARLY was ignoring that the REAL BIDDING takes place in the final five MINUTES or LESS left on any auction.
"Sniping" is the NORM, not some ODD or OBNOXIOUS unusual event.  Take that as a GIVEN and you see that ending EARLY makes the entire auction just a waste of time as any SERIOUS and INFORMED bidders had a TIME set to remind them to be AT their keyboard five to fifteen minutes before the end so that THAT Would-Be-Buyer could see if the CURRENT PRICE had or had NOT exceeded their own  Maximum Bid that they/he/she had in mind to BID.
Too high.. ok, re-think OR just cut bait.
Not too high... set a second time so that at 7 seconds before the END TIME bid one's HIGHEST PRICE and cross fingers.

We sell on other sites. Sometimes something will sell on another site and we have to close the auction on Ebay. We still have to pay the fees but nothing else. IF ITS GONE ITS GONE. Get over it and move on,

In defense of Rod and his claim that he has 100% positive feedback as a buyer, I have a feeling that sellers don't leave any feedback for a buyer that was a problem.

Except in certain categories or rare items - auctions are dead. You're lucky to get an opening bid let alone another in the last few seconds. Even in those certain categories, newer sellers don't know people snipe - see the low price on their auction and cancel because they don't want to give it away. Gone are the days you listed something for a penny and made a $100 in most cases.
