eBay Gives Loyalty Program Members the Silent Treatment

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
In a "different chapter, same book" type of situation regarding not receiving notice from eBay regarding the supplies coupon, it is July 8th...and no email notice regarding my "eBay Bucks" has been received.

I can find the confirmation of having them, but I used to receive notification around the 3rd day of the quarter.

I think both the supplies and eBay Bucks situation is very simple: Don't mention it, they (the sellers or buyers as appropriate) won't use it. More $ to apply to the bottom line while still providing the false impression that eBay is doing something for someone other than themselves.

And yes, my sales are also down around 50% from where they should be on a monthly basis, and I've increased approximately 10-15%/year for the last nine years. Same quality, unique products (even improved through the years) as always.
Thanks as always,
William

Totally agree! I have to send my customers reminders to use their bucks too! I hate that they no longer send sales reports as well.

Face it, Ebay no longer does anything that may cost them a few pennies here and there.  Remember they even cut back on or got rid of most of their marketing expenses in the first quarter which Wenig made sure he brought up with the Wall Street Analysts.  They no longer want the site to grow, just convince sellers to spend more money FVF through Promoted Listings if you want your items to be shown and maybe sell.  Its all about digging deeper into every sellers pockets by withholding services if they aren't willing to pay "Extra'.  As Pace says, completely reminds me of tactics used by the old Mafia.  The only difference is that so far Wenig is still around even while destroying the platform and the Mafias business.

I got an email notice from eBay that I have Bucks - I haven't noticed a problem, they have been coming in every quarter.

What I DO dislike is that when I win something and go to PayPal to pay, the place on the form to add the Bucks is WAAAAYYY down on the page - if I do not remember to scroll down and find it, I may forget to include the Bucks.

Anyone notice eBay has been doing more and more of these Bucks promotions lately? You know why? Because they know much of it will go unused because it EXPIRES AFTER 1 MONTH. If you don't buy regularly or forget it your Bucks are lost. Then on top of it they're not sending out messages anymore about Bucks? Everything eBay does or has withdrawn has to do with one thing: their bottom line. They're doing every trick in the book to save money for themselves and every scheme they can come up with to take money, all at the expense of it's users. eBay is a con job. Their only interest is to collect as much money as possible on every click and every action on their crumbling site all the while abusing it's users. eBay fighting for pennies trying to impress Wall Street while their actual GMV declines. But surely Wenig will produce amazing results for Q2 because their numbers are fabricated.

No arguing Wenig is behind eBay wringing every sweat droplet possible; he said that was his plan right after the New Year.

But there's also the fact of so many sellers who have choked on eBay 'reminder' messages.

Of course, a quality company might seek ways to discriminate and filter for purpose  when rewardng loyalty is involved, but even that would butt up against the paperclip accountability now ensconsed, even if they did give a flip about their customer's ''positive buying experience''.

Increased take for decreased service.  As long as you pay it, they'll play it.

I dont buy much on eBay - Id like to - but eBay has scared away most of the sellers I bought from.

From their overzealous VERO crap (which they make money on), to the 1 day processing to leaning on people to provide free shipping, COMBINED with the returns harassment - most of the vendors I bought stuff with have fled.

To Inas other post - the deals of the day are not oriented to smaller sellers, they dont care about smaller sellers, and as Ive said before - eBay has developed into the San Jose mafia.

Selling on eBay is akin to a Sopranos episode. You keep Tony aka Devin happy and you dont get whacked .... just ask Scott (chicken) Cutler/cutlet and that OTHER guy that just left. THEY didnt produce the results that the DON asked for - so they are GONE.

BTW - didnt eBay announce "enhanced seller protections" ... ok eBay protectors - where did THAT go??????

DW and Co will say and do anything to keep their jobs, backed up by shyster crooked lawyers who think the TOS is an ever expanding rubber band. Just keep giving yourself permission to do ANYTHING, and use the defense of "your logging on to eBay means you tacitly agree to anything we write.

It doesnt hurt that eBay gives money to BOTH parties, ensuring that NO ONE ever asks what they are doing. Just beat up on good ole Bezos - hes the REAL villain.

Being a crooked enterprise - eBay knows how to take and not give. You take sellers pictures, you take sellers hard work (catalog), you take sellers money (extra %5 for no reason), you TAKE.

Do you give ever? (hey we are PARTNERS!) - no not really. They TOOK the extra %10 right sellers? ... yeh - I remember the eBay cheerleaders telling us all here how we should thank our lucky stars that they even "give us" anything.

Anything related to GIVING/HELPING is scattered among many pages (when it should be front and center in the MAGIC Seller Hub) ... but its not (see the last topic where an eBay cheerleader tols us all that it ISNT eBays responsibility to be a good partner - why should they remind you that you are due something!

Pay the extra advertising fees or your items dont get sold/seen. OOPS, pay us the protection money or your store may burn down. Same thing - except ones from NJ and the other from CA.

Your store not selling anything ? YOU have been knee capped - courtesy of DW and his magic bar - where eBay employees come to drink sellers money away.

Got my eBay Bucks notices for both accounts on July 3rd.  This is another thing you can add as a reminder in your phone, other calendar app, or write it on a real calendar, whatever it takes.  Also a reminder near the end of the month to make sure you used them.

If you are not receiving the email, you might want to check the Spam folder, as this type of message can be filtered out as marketing.  They keep changing the subject line, so there may be a keyword in there that suggests it may be spam.  Even though it made it through before doesn't mean it will all the time, if they keep playing with it.

I used to get the emails on the first day they were available, as well as a reminder email when they were about to expire.  I do not know if Ebay has changed this help email to sellers as I no longer buy anything except the free Ebay supplies.

Since I could never depend on being able to see all the items I was in need of until after I had made my purchase, I changed to buying on other sites, including the sites of the Sellers i had used on Ebay previously.  I got tired of the emails informing me they had found a better deal from one of their other customers, whose listing was not available when I made my original purchase.  But now suddenly Ebay is watching out for me and found a better deal.  Why couldn't they have just shown me that option when I originally made my purchase?  Its just another way of Ebay trying to manipulate one of its customers, only this time its the buyer.

I use my eBay bucks within days. All of the bucks I earn come from purchasing during an eBay buck promotion, so it's a win win for me. I know when I'm going to buy and item but I'll wait for one promotion or another, because they do come along. If it sells in the meantime, oh well, another five will replace it.
I start researching what I'm going to buy with eBay bucks on the 1st of the month. I want to maximize the return.
A won a diamond bracelet at auction for $540. One and a half carats. 12% eBay bucks at the time. Now, that diamond bracelet was made by one of the most famous of art deco and beyond jewelry makers.....Hammerman Brothers. Can you say triple the value as an easy sale?

I also received my eBay Bucks notice on July 3rd.  The subject line was, ''Rewards unlocked! You've got Bucks to spend.''  So, I agree with Lightning that the e-mail may have been sent to some people's spam folders, depending on their settings.

eBay does a lot of things wrong (!), and we are experiencing low sales. However, they do seem to be sending out eBay Bucks notices.

I received the notice as usual. Probably another eBay glitch if many are not.

Even if members are still receiving Bucks notices despite eBay's thousands of daily "glitches", the fact still remains that they're doing more of these promotions conning people to buy because they know much of the Bucks will go unused. Most don't buy regularly or even know that Bucks expire 30 days after receiving it. eBay takes advantage of those people for profit. It's ALL that they do anymore with everyone!
