eBay Sellers Challenged by Numerous Technical Issues

By: Readers

Sponsored Link

Dear Ina,
I am sure you are getting so many questions about eBay issues...have you heard anything about all the issues?

1. Markdown Manager supposed to be new items can't put on sale for 14 days...now it's all items...100's of responses in forums about it...one eBay rep said not new items its 1 day but that is NOT working...my sales have plummeted.....average 10-15 a day....my sale ended yesterday and it wouldn't let me put up another and I had 3 sales...and woke up today to ZERO

2. Not receiving eBay Sold notifications...stopped about a week ago...started getting them again I believe on the 26th for a few hours but stopped and not getting any since

3. Page views on items showing 0

4. Pictures going missing from active items...I have had to fix around 30 so far...still going through them.

For a company that is publicly saying that they want to help the small seller now they are not doing a very good job of it
Scott

***

Dear Ina,
Seriously. Can eBay do NOTHING Right? For at least the past two days attempts to reach ALREADY PAID buyers with updates on their order and encouragements for them to BUY MORE the FOOL eBay "Contact Buyer" button SEEMS to work, but ... it's a BIG BUT ... the Destination is to MY OWN EMAIL ADDRESS.  I cannot Get it to Shift to the Buyer's eBay Name.

How on Earth do these 26,000 eBay employees find ways to make the FEW things that have worked smoothly for YEARS magically go off the rails with such (capricious) regularity.  PS: I was on my iPhone 8 when this happened.
Greg

"Maybe yes, maybe no.  Ayden has NOTHING to do with the way Ebay writes it policies.  Absolutely zero.  Two completely different things."

Sure - if you believe in Unicorns and the tooth fairy.

eBay writes its policies and makes decisions based on what IT wants, regardless of who it hurts, what the law is and what it does to the people who must "OBEY" them.

How can you say otherwise?

The Adyen decision was done after the split from Paypal. Paypal had ALWAYS played bad cop until then, with eBay claiming "it was FORCED to do XXX because the CC companies forced Paypal to do it". Hogwash - it was the old good cop/bad cop game - eBay thinks people are stupid.

Now that they are separate, eBay now tries to use the opportunity to 1) enrich itself 2) punish sellers.

Can you tell me after Bobby Cupcakes admitting that they hide - never mind listings at random but because THEY dont like what the seller is selling or how they are promoting those items - that eBay isnt CONTINUING to be selfish and self centered???????

You were all up in arms about the "fake news" (eBays total fabrication of SNADs on sellers - eBay being judge jury and executioner) on the %40 but you'll sit here and tell me (us) that Adyen was simply some business choice????? BS. (The %40 was fake news because most of those sellers did/will do NOTHING wrong - and eBay will use that FAKE data to ONCE AGAIN steal money from sellers).

How much theft and fraud has to occur before you finally admit what eBay has become?

Do you not remember how Paypal was sued due to money holds? I do. I had to threaten them as well - and my funds were held even though I was at %100 feedback with tracking - I had a %30 reserve put on me!

Can you HONESTLY sit here and say "dont worry, eBay NEVER lies - they wont do that!" ???? "They will pay us next day, they wont hold money, they wont force returns"????

Is it like feedbacks where neutral wasnt supposed to be held against you - or even feedbacks (being held against you??????)

Maybe ask yourself why VMinnovations can be a chosen participant for the banner %20 feature when he has 150+ negatives A MONTH!  %99 are INR - meaning the items were NEVER SHIPPED - is that how eBay chooses its best and its brightest? (by choosing someone who DOESNT ship goods?)

So yes Marie - Adyen certainly does figure and is part of eBays continued strangle hold on innocent sellers - believe that!

Agree with I MUST BE CRAZY

Okay now all of you who have sales falling off a cliff

GO CHECK YOUR PHOTOS

They deleted all but the gallery on ALL GTC listings.

Anything that renewed from 6-23 to 7-1 when they finally admitted to about 4 sellers that they were doing it. THOSE sellers got refunded for some of their fees.

Apparently you have to call them MORE than 5 times to get compensation for the 1,000 hours of work this is going to cost.

ONLY the gallery show up in live, and then when the buyer clicks on it, all the pics disappear.

NICE HUH?

You still think they care about the sellers??

"Oh Pace.  So now Ayden is writing Ebay policy.  Does the conspiracy ever end !!!"

WHAT?

eBay CHOSE Adyen because it gives them them latitude and the ability to use this opportunity to rook sellers AGAIN.

Point me PLEASE to a time where eBay GAVE something to sellers. You just railed against the %40 - is your memory that bad?

If Paypal was SO GREAT (as eBay told every person on the planet) why leave? Did they feel bad that poor old Adyen needed "the business"? Did they say to themselves - "hey! if we use Adyen - we can save sellers a whole %1 !?????"

BS

Switching to Adyen happened because:

1) it enriches eBay. The better rates Adyen gives them enables them to keep the extra 1-1.5% for themselves to pad their bottom line

2) it makes them "merchant of record" thus having the ability to control when and where the funds will be transfered

3) Paypal after the agreement ended, showed new bravado and came to the realization that eBay and its issues are the causes of their losses. They ask you (or at least me - but I doubt its ONLY me) where the issue originated "ebay, the web, or other". That means they are keeping track of the issues that eBay causes.

If you would like to play "the emperors new clothes"  with eBay and Adyen - go right ahead - but I didnt read into anything.

The facts are plain to see.

@Marie

I have CLEAR proof that eBay has been at my account.

When I run promotions, I take copies and screen prints of everything. It's called CYA.
Since I wasn't going to be included in the July 4th BS rigging (I'm sure you're listed in that sale) I decided to run my own promotion. Well looky here. My 1 day Fathers Day campaign now has an end date of July 16h???? Nothing's showing up as a sale, BUT they have prevented me from running a promotion. I have the screen print of my original sale and now this one.

However, I'm sure they have some vaguary in their US that says they are allowed to play with my account.

Good grief.

eBay only hides your items if they are OVER PRICED, You've done bad things or had too many complaints!

Or if your item is the same as 18,000 other items. (number picked out of the blue)

It matter if your items are also fixed price or auction.

I follow bidadoo_business on eBay weekly, have been doing so for at least 5 years.

Their items are NEVER hidden!

They sell over $1 million a week on eBay at auction.

They sell items for Boeing, the City of Seattle and many very large construction firms and rental companies.

I haven't had that many problems with eBay besides slow sales. . .

I NEVER said ANYTHING about Ebay messing with someone's promotion and/or your promotion.  So I'm not sure why your post is directed to me.  I did however agree with another poster on their solution to Ebay's perceived problem with what they call a bad promotion.

Sorry to hear you fell victim to this.

Yes, I firmly believe the 40% penalty Ebay is imposing is wrong.  I've said that many times and I've NEVER backtracked on that.  Because I may not agree with other points you make does not mean I've changed my mind on this.

I also believe that Ebay's decision to start moving into the payment processing part of transactions is a solid business decision for them.  While you want to accept it or not, they are a for profit company and I believe this to be a good business move by them.

As for me personally I shutter to think of the possible glitches that may occur during the start up of this process.  Ebay doesn't have a good track record as we all know.  But I'm not going to What If myself into high blood pressure, oh wait I already have that issue!

Fortunately for most of us Ebay will be phasing this in.  I do however feel very sorry for those that are affected in the initial set up of the process.

Marie - I hope that you NEVER fall into the evil clutches of eBays %40 VIG.

I can only base my thoughts and "predictions" on every other one of eBays evil ideas.

There hasnt been (1) where its helped anyone but eBay themselves.

BTW, we sellers are too a "for profit company", so regardless of eBays choices - if they ONLY always benefit eBay - then you know theres something crooked involved.

Truthfully, I personally dont care who the inbetween is for payment processing - as long as they are fair and honest - but ebay/paypal had a bad trackrecord, so theres no reason to thing that eBay/Adyen will have any better of one.

Ive been on ebay since 1998 - I have a %100 feedback score and north of 7K feedbacks - people like You, me and everyone else here - are certainly NOT eBays problem (in general) - I dont feel that anyone here including myself should be the brunt of any of eBays insane ideas.

have a great 4th!

But your definition of Ebay's "evil" ideas are every single thing they do.

Predictions are not facts.  YES it is very important for us to always keep our eyes wide open and watch out for things that may hurt or damage our selling accounts on Ebay.  That of course is always something we should all do.  I just do not choose to live my life worrying about every single What If there may be regarding a given subject.

That doesn't mean I'm blind or ignorant of the situation.  As I stated, I'm always watchful.  You have every right to worry about whatever you chose to worry about whenever you chose to worry about it.  As I have the right to do it my way.

While many people are making predictions and have made lots of predictions over the years.  Some have come true and others haven't.  It is a mixed bag.

Yes we too are For Profit companies.  No doubt about that.  And if we weren't, we would no longer be selling on Ebay.  So while changes come and go, you remain, I remain, many others remain as we have found ways to survive within their site.  It certainly doesn't mean we like everything or participate in all their hair brained ideas.  But so far, we survive.  All we can do is stay watchful and move on when the time is right.

We've been on Ebay for about the same amount of time.  My FB number is much higher, but that doesn't mean I hold myself out there as knowing more than you.  It simply means my FB number is greater, NOTHING more.

I am rarely on Ebay forums actually posting.  I read through some threads from time to time and occasionally participate, but that is about it.

I realize it is annoying when you firmly believe something and then when it is shown to you through the written policies not to be correct, it can make you feel a bit sour towards the person that brought it to your attention.  I get that.  It happens from time to time here.  You got a bad taste in your mouth about me from a different blog on this site.

Not a problem, well at least not for me.  I sometimes agree with other posters and I sometimes don't.  But I respect everyone's right to their opinions and insights.  I have learned much over the years from the articles here and the posters that come here.

And while some of us get into some spirited conversations, I still think we all have great things to offer and I try very hard to always keep my eyes and mind opened to new ideas and other perspectives.  I can't say I'm always successful, but I do try.

I appreciate your comments however maybe you aren't aware of how one sided you come across. I am very aware of how I'm coming across. The BS of a company played with mer tried to take my business down, all the while lying as boldface as they do to everyone else.

If you suddenly lost ten grand a month, knowing full well it isn't you or your selling abilities, I wonder how positive you would feel then?

My feedback is perfect, my customers effusive when they leave it. That doesn't speak a whit to eBay. So what? I'm just another disabled stupid seller. Doesn't matter that I was an educated professional my entire life BEFORE becoming disabled. I built my business out of nothing and it succeeded, until eBay decided to mess with it.

If I were as positive as you are about eBay, they'd put me in the loony bin.

@iheartjacksparrow: The day Ayden kicks in is the day I close my Ebay account. There is no way I'm letting Ebay and Ayden be the middleman in my payments. At least I can speak to Paypal at will and pretty easily-not that I ever have to. So I'm listing stuff right now that I want to move and when Ayden's in? I'm OUT. I just pray Ruby Lane doesn't try and travel down this road.

When I post about an actual Ebay policy, it is important to keep in mind that I do NOT write them nor do I enforce them.  Many times when I'm posting about an Ebay policy I'm not even offering my opinion, I'm just stating what the policy says.  That doesn't mean I agree with them, like them or anything else.  I'm just stating the facts as presented by the particular Ebay policy.

Some such as yourself seem to confuse that with my opinion.  It is NOT the same thing.  It doesn't matter how many times I state that, some readers such as yourself seem to take it the wrong way.  There isn't much I can do about that.  I've stated so many times that I'm just quoting the policy, but that doesn't seem to matter.

Some times we feel so passionately about one subject or another that our anger gets directed at anyone or anything that even resembles disagreeing with there opinion.  It doesn't matter if they are or not, just the hint of it ticks some people off when they are as entrenched in their dislike for something.

I've NEVER said or implied that you don't have a right to be upset by your loss of sales.  Heck I haven't even had that conversation with you.  So you directing that at me just goes to prove what I previously said.

I'm not all positive about Ebay.  But I'm not all negative about it either.  And that is what rubs some the wrong way because of their hatred for Ebay.  That is not my problem, that is theirs.  If I hated Ebay as much as many posters say they do here, I would not sell on Ebay.

Yet as much as some voice their distaste for Ebay, they still sell there.  Why you might ask?  Because they are still getting enough sales to warrant being there.  When that changes, they will be gone too and that is as it should be.  We are after all just trying to make a living.

Then there are others that post about they distaste for Ebay that no longer sell on Ebay, some of them for years, others more recently.

@toolboy LOL. Ok think this through. You're telling someone that Ebay only hides your listings if you're overpriced, have the same thing as 20,000 other people or just basically have done bad things. Hidden listings result in lower and slower sales. You say you don't have any problems with Ebay-apart from your slow sales lately...………..*penny drops*

"But your definition of Ebay's "evil" ideas are every single thing they do."

Ok - if you please - show one that was NOT evil.

Defects?
One sided feedbacks?
30 day returns?
Fake Snads?
Fake VERO takedowns?

I cant come up with one - if you cant - PLEASE by all means - enlighten me :)

One of the reasons you have more feedbacks then I is because for the first few yrs I was a casual seller. I worked for a large ($100 million) 5th ave NYC retailer. I had no reason to spend time, effort or money selling one eBay - I mostly bought when the store bought a good deal on something - I sold some. As time went on - I got more and more involved in selling and then formed my own LLC - and did it full time.

Personally - Im here because not everything I sell works on Amazon. Being Im in the electronics biz, ALOT of brands and items are gated - therefore I need to look elsewhere.

Reverb is almost nothing and I havent yet gotten to finishing dealing with Walmart (forget Newegg and Jet).

Ill stick to my predictions - mine have all come true. Greed, but mostly stupidity (from people who know nothing about running an ecommerce company) have ruined the eBay that used to be a great place to sell.

Ive had to threaten eBay with court action - to get the rights that they have "greedally" (I know - theres no such word) taken from me - so I have little patience for MORE stupid rules.

Tech issues happen - but when they are all "magically" slanted to taking money from me .... I know there are "games afoot".

Enjoy your 4th

I don't disagree with you about everything, just some things.  We don't see things the same way.  It wouldn't matter at this point what I'd say, you'd find fault in it.

I agree with most that you listed.  Except the FB and the 30 day returns.

I think over the years there has been more things I don't like than I do like, but some of the things that have benefited me and my little business are:

Shortening of the UID process.
Variation lisitings [saves me $100's every month]
The ability to charge a buyer for return shipping on a BR Request.
Shipping supply coupon
ISBs [item specific boxes]
12 pics for free
Specific fields for handling time
Specific fields for return policies [well up until 6-1]
Bulk editing
USPS shipping discounts

But my list of things I don't like would probably be longer for sure.  At the top of the list would be these never ending glitches.  They cost us all time and money.
