eBay Sellers Challenged by Numerous Technical Issues

By: Readers

Sponsored Link

Dear Ina,
I am sure you are getting so many questions about eBay issues...have you heard anything about all the issues?

1. Markdown Manager supposed to be new items can't put on sale for 14 days...now it's all items...100's of responses in forums about it...one eBay rep said not new items its 1 day but that is NOT working...my sales have plummeted.....average 10-15 a day....my sale ended yesterday and it wouldn't let me put up another and I had 3 sales...and woke up today to ZERO

2. Not receiving eBay Sold notifications...stopped about a week ago...started getting them again I believe on the 26th for a few hours but stopped and not getting any since

3. Page views on items showing 0

4. Pictures going missing from active items...I have had to fix around 30 so far...still going through them.

For a company that is publicly saying that they want to help the small seller now they are not doing a very good job of it
Scott

Dear Ina,
Seriously. Can eBay do NOTHING Right? For at least the past two days attempts to reach ALREADY PAID buyers with updates on their order and encouragements for them to BUY MORE the FOOL eBay "Contact Buyer" button SEEMS to work, but ... it's a BIG BUT ... the Destination is to MY OWN EMAIL ADDRESS.  I cannot Get it to Shift to the Buyer's eBay Name.

How on Earth do these 26,000 eBay employees find ways to make the FEW things that have worked smoothly for YEARS magically go off the rails with such (capricious) regularity.  PS: I was on my iPhone 8 when this happened.

E4Fam, if there is a algorithm involved, you'll get screwed.  I dont' think that eCrater uses them, although I am sure that Google does and that may affect how ones eCrater's items show up on Google shopping.

I just don't understand why these companies have to rig search with an algorithm.  Just show the buyers what they want.

Vladimir Putin stated that the country who leads will rule the world.  Scary thought. Even scarier that the orange wanna be dictator wants to be his BFF.   I am hoping I live to see what Vlad has on Don the con.  It must be big.....and really embarrassing.

In looking at different feedback sites around the world, the resounding problem is the same for everyone.. It's a global issue.

It makes me wonder if it will draw more light into the global company's practices. That truly is what's at fault here. I've been on eBay since 2004, on and off and I can certainly say I have never seen this extent of anger and outrage before. I do hope it keeps up and gets louder.

"List It! Ship It! Get paid!"

until you get that very first fake SNAD - brought to you and encouraged by the mobsters in San Jose.

"List It!"

Based on Ina's other article plus what sellers already know - that "newbie" may never even get to have their listing seen - unless its something supercheap or its tech and its supercool - used iPhone etc.

" Ship It!"

And if you dont eat the higher priced expensive Fast N Free shipping - you will be on page 3 (if your lucky). You CERTAINLY wont be part of any promos, or have your feeback HIDDEN like eBay does for others. No, you will try to ship it in a reasonable time, then because you didnt wake up at 6:30 AM, be first in line at the PO, hold a gun to the postal employees head and make them enter it into the mail system - you will get that %4-%40 additional fee since you "fell behind THE standards" .. what?

"Get paid!"

If you are lucky. If you arent VEROD, if theres no INR, FAKE SNAD, and if the guy didnt drop it or send you back a flip phone - MAYBE you'll get paid something - less the FVF on shipping that eBay had nothing to do with - but still claims for itself.

When you deal with eBay - sadly you have to get down in the mud - and thats not what eceommerce should be!

@CanBrit, I feel the same way. I've been on ebay since 2004 selling all different kinds of merchandise over the years and then the last 4 years I've concentrated on used auto parts. I've rolled with the changes over the years even kicking and screaming with some of them along the way, but the changes here in 2018 I think are the worst they have ever implemented. The worst of them all is this metrics BS, which I was told today by a CS rep they are going back to 1 year on our accounts and this whole deal of their CS trying to force us into "FREE RETURNS" which just doesn't work in my category.

I keep getting NAD cases, yet these clown buyers keep admitting its their fault. I call ebay anchor support, yet they still do not want to help with this type of false cases. It just keeps getting me irritated calling their support only to be coerced into signing up for free returns.

To a degree, I also don't fully agree with how they have implemented the promotions in the markdown manager. I understand with the false sales that were going on, but couldn't ebay just say you can't go past 10-15% the first two weeks of an item being live? Don't allow people to do these phony sales by taking a $50 item, listing it for $100 and then slashing the price by 50-60% off. I usually run anywhere from 10-20% off and if I want to offload inventory I even go as high as 25%, but I never increase my prices to pull a fast one. But since this change, my sales have dropped quite a bit this weekend. Again, we live in an ebay model where one size fits all.

After the last few days, I've about had enough. I'm not walking away, but I am going full force with getting myself completely setup with Amazon (I know they have huge problems too) and plan to try Bonanza Webcaster later this week. I do have a Bonanza Booth, but sales on there this month have been at their worst when compared to previous months. I do want to try this Webcaster site they have for a month or two to see if it does anything for more sales. I want to succeed with my internet sales business and don't need ebay taking me down with them.

at least technical issues have a hidden agenda on eBay. The real reason is the trying to downgrade small Cellars with defects the more defects you have the lower and lower you go to drop down the standard and then below standard. Once you drop down below standard they remove you from the global Shipping program, and they start charging you $0.25 for every listing if you have a basic store you go over 250 items it's $0.25 to relist and then they started in with the return policy. EBay gets paid for a certain percentage on the return shipping eBay gets paid for doing a return label eBay makes it easy for any buyer to return any item for any reason whatsoever and they don't allow you to do a 20% restocking fee anymore. It would be best if there was a competitor against eBay that had just an Antiques category no returns no feedbacks all items sold as is cuz let's face the honest truth anything older than 25 years needs Servicing there. There is no such thing as mint condition unless you go have your own time machine so why should have Celebi victimized by an expensive antique because some character in Asia things that it should be in mint condition and then slices it with a razor blade and returns it and he takes your money away and makes you pay return shipping eBay's an extortion website in the extortion is 100% against the seller. It's almost impossible to get put on hold for half an hour these days although the customer service department does try and help you eBay's very restrictive clause which is against the law a rating system that's a horror show can only benefit new stores who are selling brand new items boxed on opened anybody selling used equipment is in big trouble on eBay

Dear eBay Seller,
There is no , eBay as a monopoly website controls the internet sales marketplace. Despite numerous attempts of competitors against eBay, eBay still controls 80% of all sales. The gigantic increase of idiotic registered users using the eBay app and so called smart phones, has helped eBay to have many more sellers, and alas far fewer buyers! Well you say how is that possible? These newbies on eBay are idiots, who find items knowing NOTHING about the items workings, see a completed sale price for a mint example and price theirs somewhere in-between. The problem is they know nothing about descriptions, history of; and inner mechanistic workings. However, they have saturated eBay listings to the tens of thousands in every category! They do NOT understand that eBay's search system is obsolete! designed in year 2000 AD to include categories, titles and description's; in the days when there was far fewer listings. Do a search for a common named camera like Nikon and you are in BIG trouble. 40,000 listing. even the highly skilled buyer does NOT have the time to filter endlessly to get it down to 100 items. So you the seller, sole proprietor, will never have you item seen,Why NOT?
Enter the great Satan of eBay. The Clarrisa secret programming that rates sellers! Started by ex-CEO Donovan. A rating system to weed out bad sellers, has morphed into a rating system to squeeze as much profits for eBay out of that poor seller!  How,easy; rate on the following: 1. Shipping time 2. Description accuracy 3. shipping cost 4. return policy 5. Power seller status 6. eBay store status 7. returns 8. defects.... everyone of these hidden agenda policies have been so refined as to raise your defect striking to standard or below. Especially if you sell used antiques. Once your lowered, you off the global shipping Program, your lowered to the very bottom of the search system. rated by returns when being searched and last but never least, you will have NO sales. Meanwhile back at the ranch, eBay will charge you for : 1. the listing, 2. the renewal of the listing, 3. % of the sale, 4. fee on the shipping cost, 5. Fee on the return process, 6. fee on the relisting! Your being squeezed like a pimple by a system that being massaged monthly against you! The whole system is created by eBay to drive away the antiques marketplace and deal ONLY with the issues from Brand NEW, unopened merchandise.
So what's the catch here, eBay's claim to fame was from the Antiques Sellers. BUT, eBay's extortion feedback system gave a huge; "Hammer of Thor",  to pound the seller with. In economic bad times such as these, where jobs have been outsourced to China, Mexico and Canada for USA citizens, dirty tricks are employed by eBay buyers. SNAD, Remorse, fraud, thieves;  all these categories are true for 15% of eBay sales! You get the buyers who switch your good parts for their bad parts and return the item to you by filing SNAD false claims. You get the buyers who use the item for weddings and vacations and return it with a SNAD. eBay does NOTHING about bad buyers! Amazon at least has a new program to investigate, eBay NEVER investigates. Best you can do is be reamed and go to Site map> Sell> Block bidder list, which eBay made very hard to find, made the item # in font size 6, anything to make it hard for a seller to do their due-diligence! its, time the eBay board of directors, contact sellers and hear the horror stories of eBay policy. Hear why thousands of power sellers are leaving eBay. Hear why sellers are so discussed with all the poor quality non beta tested changes that cause so many glitches in the source code, causing major functions of eBay No longer work! The board must understand that sales notices are NOT going out! But your rated as one day shipper and a strike defect will be posted too your account, because that stinking rotten Clarissa Program always downgrades you, without you knowing!
Its time for a new website to start! Antiques Only, no feedback, no returns, accepted by PayPal with those conditions or otherwise no PayPal acceptance.  let eBay have the brand new items, even then your at eBay's unmerciful, Clarissa Seller rating system.
Twenty years ago when I started with eBay in 1998, I loved eBay. Today I see the problems of the source code, the eBay App, The Clarissa evil program and the huge data entry mistakes recorded incorrectly against the Seller to ever recommend eBay to a small seller; to be on eBay. I tried till i was blue in the face calling eBay; to help them. eBay is a robot, with programmed AI stupidity, guaranteed to squeeze every nickel out of a small seller! CS agents are NOT in the USA, most all times, unaware of website problems or eBay hidden agenda policy! CS agents are kind, respectful and naive beyond belief, inexperienced sellers! If this is global commerce, its being done very badly by eBay in the last three years! If you own eBay stock, dump it immediately! If your smart investor buy PUTS against eBay now! Q2 results are coming out real soon and you can be sure, the figures will NOT represent true facts. let's face it, stock analysis dont read this blog. They don't sell on eBay to try and make money, so the company line from eBay is all they know; brainwashed wall street! As soon as wall street finds out the real truth, watch the stock drop like a sinker in deep water! Then and only then, will the board, the deep pocket stock holders of eBay, say, hey what,s wrong here? Well its NOT the economy stupid mega stock holder. It's the horrible policies and treatment by eBay against the Sellers that will be the down fall of the giant once known as eBay!

@frustrated, I read about the issues with the GTC photos disappearing. My listings are currently set at 30 days. This is yet another silly bug that I read they could not retrieve people's pictures which is asinine. Like I always have said, ebay likes to have us keep doing more and more work fixing issues that they create.

WOW!  The more I read on this thread, the more I keep thinking of a particular story in a fabulous book.

It's called "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand. You all might like to read it if you haven't. It's what is happening on eBay.

With each new "rule" on ebay, the more I think about that book.  And no, I'm not a book seller.

If you follow Ebay's instructions on that page.  1.List it  2. Ship it  3.  Get paid.  It is doubtful you'll get a SNAD of any kind.  The buyer will be happy just to get free stuff since Ebay is instructing new sellers to ship BEFORE they get paid.  A ridiculous and irresponsible way for Ebay to design a page intended to instructing new sellers.  Absolutely ridiculous!!

@frustrated
I'm sorry to hear your GTC listings are experiencing that problem.  Just for the record mine are not.  So it appears you are stuck in a glitch that is affecting some sellers but not others.

I had two sales last week. On an average month I was doing 100. So, not accidental by any means. Now, sure my sales have pretty much stopped except for my own selling base of customers that I have had for years no matter where I ended up. I would sooner have them purchase from me elsewhere.

eBay's punishments aren't going to affect my ability to sell. If I can take my business from zero to over a hundred grand in sales in a year, it has absolutely nothing to do with eBay. That's because in the beginning I wasn't on eBay. I managed to go even higher on eBay until this throttling. But, I can go elsewhere and be just as successful.  eBay is only losing money. Albeit I'm not a huge seller, but fees are fees and it's the pennies that sometimes make the difference.

They are morons, all of them.

Maybe yes, maybe no.  Ayden has NOTHING to do with the way Ebay writes it policies.  Absolutely zero.  Two completely different things.

I have no reason to distrust Ayden at this point.  Certainly that could change, but at this point they are handling Etsy payment quite well.

@Marie - Adyen might be handling Etsy payments "quite well" now, but I remember when Etsy Payments first went live and it was a total mess. Payments weren't being processed, orders were being cancelled, and the sellers were going nuts. eBay is a much bigger online presence, and though Adyen probably learned from their Etsy mistakes, eBay sellers should prepare for the worst since there is a history of Adyen issues when starting up on a new site.

It was a short term problem that was fixed and has not repeated.  If was not a "total mess".  It did have a couple of problems which were resolved quickly.  Not fun while going through them to be sure, but it was short lived and to my knowledge has not repeated.

@Marie - I guess we remember this incident differently. According to a person who lived through it, the problems went on for five days, and the ramifications were still being felt weeks later. I hardly think you could classify the situation as being resolved quickly.
