eBay Sellers Challenged by Numerous Technical Issues

By: Readers

Sponsored Link

Dear Ina,
I am sure you are getting so many questions about eBay issues...have you heard anything about all the issues?

1. Markdown Manager supposed to be new items can't put on sale for 14 days...now it's all items...100's of responses in forums about it...one eBay rep said not new items its 1 day but that is NOT working...my sales have plummeted.....average 10-15 a day....my sale ended yesterday and it wouldn't let me put up another and I had 3 sales...and woke up today to ZERO

2. Not receiving eBay Sold notifications...stopped about a week ago...started getting them again I believe on the 26th for a few hours but stopped and not getting any since

3. Page views on items showing 0

4. Pictures going missing from active items...I have had to fix around 30 so far...still going through them.

For a company that is publicly saying that they want to help the small seller now they are not doing a very good job of it
Scott

Dear Ina,
Seriously. Can eBay do NOTHING Right? For at least the past two days attempts to reach ALREADY PAID buyers with updates on their order and encouragements for them to BUY MORE the FOOL eBay "Contact Buyer" button SEEMS to work, but ... it's a BIG BUT ... the Destination is to MY OWN EMAIL ADDRESS.  I cannot Get it to Shift to the Buyer's eBay Name.

How on Earth do these 26,000 eBay employees find ways to make the FEW things that have worked smoothly for YEARS magically go off the rails with such (capricious) regularity.  PS: I was on my iPhone 8 when this happened.

The great eBay clusterfug continues.

Just how long are eBay's Board of Directors going to leave the incompetent empty suit / Hamptons poser at the helm?   Is it going to take a major data breach for him to be oustered?

My sales have fallen off a cliff starting from Thursday. I was getting anywhere from 20-30 sales a day, then Thursday it was a struggle to get to 20. Then yesterday, I had 5 sales till about the afternoon when around 4:30 pm while out at dinner with my family I get 6 sales within 2 minutes. Then no sales the rest of the day. Something is truly broken with all of these changes.

I was struck by the Above Standard seller from TRS plus bug yesterday. Honestly this is embarrassing with what is going on over there. While Amazon is no saint and isn’t the answer I’m working on getting my inventory over there too to at least hopefully get a few sales a week. I’ve tired Shopify and I’m not succeeding there, it’s gonna be a tough battle is eBay doesn’t get their act together.

My sales started dropping in April. As of the end of this month my sales are down 75%. I'm moving my higher priced items to Etsy and may leave the cheap stuff on eBay. I've been through these roller coasters before with eBay. They seem to have major disasters every couple of years. This time, though,it takes the cake in the sheer enormity of the mess. There pretty much isn't any functionality working correctly throughout the system and once the summer updates are all implemented, everyone will become below average and eBay will be raping, oops I mean reaping the $$$$

DITTO!  My sales dropped off a cliff in late April and have been down 75% on the button!  Used to get 12-20 sales for $200+ a day, and now its 0-4 sales a day for $50 bucks average (LIKE CLOCKWORK)!.  And what's truly odd is we have sold on ebay for 14 years and never had a day with ZERO sales except for the 2012 Cassini implementation debackle but we have had 6 days with ZERO sales since 4/21.... We have a stellar account, good items, fair prices and just through all the damn ebay hoops.

Its a disgrace that the marketplace is SO manipulated..And its an embarassment that they have so many glitches and issues.  Heads should roll in the management team as there is no way they should be allowing these inexperienced programmers to make changes that haven't been properly vetted and tested.  They are costing their company and hurting millions of small sellers that depend on a steady income to survive.  And if they are doing this stuff on purpose, its classless and unethical.

We know the manipulation and sales thresholds are on purpose, so the management team at this company is a DISGRACE! They will be the next Blockbuster or Myspace lol!  So sad and what a shame as they could have a great destiny if they treated their customers fairly and found their one niche without trying to be Amazon....

I my case, it is intentional. The "throttling" method. My returns look like than they should because I was set up false returns. Funny thing is, when that first started, they told me not to worry, because as long as eBay didn't have to become involved, all was good. Well pretty little liars. Now they are setting  up returns to ensure the sellers fall below ratings for another cash grab.

I don't get it Frank. eBay's original premise was a good one and they were the most successful at it. Greed blew it.

For those of you experiencing problems with received the Sold emails from Ebay.  I had this problem a month or so ago.  It is fixed now.  But what I discovered was different IMHO.  For me, it actually wasn't Ebay's fault but that of Google.

Google made some changes to the program for Gmail.  All my Ebay sold emails were going into the Spam folder on my Gmail account and never getting delivered to me on my computer.  Even the darn email from Google notifying me of the changes they recently made was in the Spam folder and therefore never reached me.

So I cleaned it up and corrected the settings on the Ebay emails and the Google emails.  I've been fine since.  I know this won't be the answer for the majority of people out there having a problem getting the sold emails.  But it may help one of you so I thought I'd share.

@CanBrit, that does suck since it's been since April that your sales have been dropping off. I notice a pattern even when reading the eBay community forums that people started having their sales drop off around April. I feel so discouraged the last two days, I have around 700 plus items waiting to be listed and I feel like it's a waste of time considering the direction their greed has taken this company in. After selling on this platform for 15 years, I am at a loss with these changes. We have been through a lot of changes, but these take the cake.

"Now they are setting  up returns to ensure the sellers fall below ratings for another cash grab."

You are witnessing the desperation at eBay.  This may be the biggest outrage since I started selling on eBay.  Surely there will be law suits over this one.   Setting up returns for a cash grab.  Only a slimy unethical company would do such.  No company that I know of encourages returns like eBay do.

Just remember folks, pride goeth before the fall.

For me, the workaround for ebafia's email "glitches" is the mobile ap.

While the ap is generally worthless, at least it tells when I've made a sale and the PayPal ap tells me when I've received payment when their emails aren't sent.

For anyone who thinks the technical issues are bad now, wait until Adyen starts processing the payments. I remember when Adyen went live on Etsy, and payments were taking forever to be processed. eBay is much larger than Etsy, and with all the glitches eBay keeps experiencing, the Payments Intermediary has a potential for a major disaster.

It really does suck but I'm being proactive and moving a lot of my higher end items to another site. I can bring the numbers back. eBay is just a platform after all. I'm the one that makes the sales. If they aren't going to bring me customers, well I just will go where I can get some. There aren't really many platforms with eBay's insane restrictions and paranoia. I'm lucky that this really is a part time job for me until my husband retires. We don't need the money from eBay, it just allows more perks.

If I do sell any of my lower end items, and that's a big if these days, well they won't be profiting too much either. When my commitment to my store ends this year I'll just drop down and put up 50 items a month, maybe less, who knows, maybe none?  eBay is not going to get the better of me.

I decided to do another search for my items, picked a dozen and then searched for the complete title. None showed up.

That truly is the definition of throttling and it certainly is illegal. Isn't it a shame, that they can do whatever they want outside of the law because we are not richer or stronger than they are.

What pieces of well.....you know.

Diversifying is ALWAYS a GREAT idea.  But you still need to know and understand the rules in which you are held to on any site that you are currently doing business on.  Or at least you should.

You've been on Ebay for awhile if I understand all your other postings.  Are you saying in all that time you've never had the occasion to visit the UA on the subject of hiding listings?

I know for me, I certainly don't like the policy.  I feel I pay for a service that I should receive, but unfortunately Ebay doesn't see it the same way.

@Marie - Why would anyone selling on eBay be inclined to read the TOS specifically to see if their listings will be hidden? It is beyond ludicrous that anyone would assume that they would have to pay to not be seen. I have never heard of any other site stating that they will take your money and never show your merchandise. Where in the real world can someone pay money and get nothing in return?

All I have to say is this; If any of us took money from a customer, didn't ship the goods, didn't respond to customers' requests, didn't resolve cases, provided items that are not as described on a consistent basis....if we did busines the way that Ebay does business.....we would be KICKED OFF OF THE SITE.

Ebay does not hold THEMSELVES to a standard of decency, let alone the standards to which they hold their sellers. They should be embarrassed and ashamed. But without scruples, they feel nothing.

Hypocrites, thieves, fraudsters.
