Sellers Skeptical over eBay Guaranteed Delivery Report

By: Readers

Sponsored Link

Dear Ina,
I do not know if this is reality or not, but actually sounds like something that eBay would do to try and force all sellers into their GD (Guaranteed Delivery) program.

Here is the link to the boards with the complaint that if the sellers does not opt into GD, then the delivery dates will show 30 days or longer and eBay's Customer Service response to that.

Also (eBay moderator) Trinton chimed in that he also sees this issue on that seller's items, just to let you know.

Dear Ina,
Not sure how accurate this is but perhaps something to put on your radar...

Could this be another underhanded scheme by eBay??
A.

I don't know why anyone is surprised by this move by eBay. They want everyone in the program, and if a seller does not voluntarily opt in, that seller will be punished by having their estimated delivery time changed to an unrealistically long period. In the example, the seller showed his handling time as 5-7 days, which, in eBay's world of fast and free shipping, is not going to work.

I'm in the opposite boat.

I have 1 day handling time but no guaranteed delivery

eBay says you'll get my item in 2 days?

If you buy it today on the 8th you'll have it in hand on the 10th.

I highly doubt that since it won't be in the mail until the 9th

eBay has higher expectations then I do. . .

I have a 3 day handling time.
I have spot check without logging in and with adding a California zip code. It still shows that the delivery will be in 3 days of todays date without considering the 3 day handling time.
The CSR knows there is a problem and had sent a work order on it.

I am not experiencing this problem either, but I find the thread very interesting.  There does not appear to me to be enough information that this is a "move" by Ebay but very likely is a glitch.

It however will be interesting to see what additional information, if any, is posted by the CSRs.

Personally I do not see it on any of my listings at this time but I do still have 1 day handling because it is easy for me to maintain.  I will change to 2 day handling once the free return shipping comes into play as i will not offer this program and since i will lose my TRS+ discount (what little there is) I am not going to worry about getting things out in 1 day any longer.

Most buyers in my category do not need the item that quickly and are not going to worry whether I mail it in 1 or 2 days.  I am also planning on opting out of the GD service as Ebay has stated that if your items cannot reach the buyers destination in 3 days you will not be shown to those buyers.  To me that is further limiting who sees my items, so since many will not see them with this program anyway due to the slow USPS handling times in my area, why should i stress out to make sure something gets out in one day just for the privilege of being shown in the GD program.  Most buyers in my category worry more about price and quality of the item than how fast they get it and will not check the box for the GD services anyway.

But I would not put this past Ebay in the least as they are all about the stick and you will do it our way or hit the highway because sellers see through their bogus ideas and money schemes that only benefit Wenig and take more money out of the pockets of the sellers.

Somebody posted on another thread that Wenig was let go from Reuters because the information was not creating the desired results (at least basically speaking) and his time at Ebay has had the same dismal results.  Nothing he tries works other than to irritate either the buyers or the sellers.

So glad that I am not dependent on eBay anymore.  If I get a sale, fine, if not, who cares.  I am so glad that I spent the many hours that I did building elsewhere.  You never know what stunt they will pull next, not to mention the fact that is a technological nightmare with one glitch after another.   It is quite sad to see what they have become.  Free, free at last!

I'm not sure what to think yet.  One of my main parlor tricks has always been fast turnaround and I ''qualified'' for GD according to an email I got from eBay and I needed to opt out if that's what I wanted to do.  I let it fly, it didn't seem to require any additional effort on my part.  That said, now when I view my own list, if I have the user interface set to look at 3 day GD, things are fine.  But if I tick that box OFF (as if I don't care about GD), my list disappears.  I might be somewhat unimpressed by that.

I might have to take that back: if I tick the user interface button ON to 3 Day Guaranteed Delivery my list disappears.  Either way, I'm unimpressed by a button like that because nobody's going to know what it means.

My sales in the one store where I opted in months ago are up.  In the category I sell in there are about 12,000 listings, but if a buyer ticks the 3-day switch ONLY my 800 listings appear.  What's not to like about that?

@ Paul W

Are you logged in or out, when you tried that 3 day switch?

I opted in to this to see if it would help my ever declining ebay sales before they opt everyone in and then I would not be able to tell at all.
So, nothing happened. No sales increase at all, if anything, way less than normal, average daily sales down. I only opted out about 10 out of 3000 items. my sales today are 1/2 in and 1/2 out the program.
Anyway, I am not seeing any benefit to this at all, nothing bad so far, but have not had a return yet so don't know but not worth the potential problems since there are only less sales, not more.
Generally I have about the same amazon sales as ebay sales, my ebay sales for today are less than half of amazon and have been running that way since I started this, coincidence? Don't know. I will let it run the month and see what happens.

If everyone was forced to opt in or wanted to opt in then what is the benefit?

It is just a scam by ebay to get more money in fees from sellers who for what ever reason will miss a ship date. I often ship the same day and 99.99% of the time by the next business day but I see this as another one of their scams to increase fees sellers pay. Once everyone is opted in one way or another the seller gets no benefit and more risk.
