eBay Fails to Remove Obscene Picture

By: Reader

Sponsored Link

Dear Ina,
I have contacted eBay's Trust & Safety Department twice within a week (February 26th speaking with Caden, and March 3rd speaking with Yolanda) regarding the obscene picture of a nearly-naked and very busty woman engaged in a sexual act (you have to closely examine the picture and see a man's bare legs) and the inappropriate message in the profile of eBay member (redacted by EcommerceBytes).

Both times I called eBay, I was assured these items were going to be removed and the member's ID would be "flagged" so he wouldn't upload more obscene photos or submit another inappropriate profile message once these items were removed. I would have attached a picture of this, but it is probably considered his and/or eBay's property.

eBay has no problem with, and doesn't think twice about, removing an auction listing they feel is inappropriate or violates their precious policies, yet they have not removed this despite 2 complaints in one week???

I discovered this eBay member when he wrote me thru eBay's messaging system (which Trust & Safety is aware of) regarding a top I had for sale. In his message to me, he states he is a "figure photographer....my models range from FF-KK+ cup sizes, 36 to 40". my wife also is very busty, 38 HH cup." His profile message contains this and much more!!!!

He then asks me "is this your top, have you tried it on, does it fit you tightly, are you busty like my models/wife?" He then states he's "looking for a reference to decide if this is appropriate for it's intended eye-candy needs" and asks me "would a pic if (sic) it being worn possible?"

Being a seller, I answered him only because an "unanswered question" icon would continuously appear next to my item. I replied professionally, thanking him for his interest (in the top) and further answered his questions about the design of the top. I also replied "based on your models and your wife's measurements compared to mine, sorry to say but no, the top will not fit."

eBay and this member really has me disgusted!! I am not a prude by any means, but there is a time and place for everything and this does not belong on eBay. Wonder what the FTC would say about this!!!! Hmm!!!

What sexual act were you able to see? Were there any 'naughty bits' being shown? ''A man's bare legs...very busty woman'' Yes, that 'very busty' part must've really gotten you riled up. Would it have been better if the woman was a little less .... endowed? If there was no nudity shown, no matter how hard you looked, what's obscene? Are you writing from Utah? The FTC must still be laughing about your complaint. Ever hear of the Supreme Court ruling on pornography? As for the jerk asking if he could get a picture of the top being worn (he didn't mention you posing in it), all you had to say, if anything, was ''get lost'' - stated very professionally, of course. Do you actually feel the need to answer any/every question addressed to you? Good gosh! No matter. The obscene part of ebay is the CEO and his Board of Directors. His and their double-dealings as to selling off parts of ebay (notably SKYPE)at a loss to an investor group, containing a member of ebays Board. The investor group then sold it for billions in profit for themselves, stiffing us ebay shareholders. When all is said and done, ebay's CEO, Donahoe,  will definitely be gone. Paypal will be split from ebay and ALL will be better. It's definitely going to happen - and soon.

WACKYMACS: How about a ''very busty'' woman, laying on her back, arms folded under her breasts that are only covered by a spaghetti-strap type of material and her feet between the man's bare legs!!!  Riled up?? I hope you meant that as ANGRY because yes, I am!!!!   And it doesn't matter if she was ''less endowed''.  There is a time and place for everything!!  I am not a prude by any means, but my husband even said that does not belong on eBay!!!!  And no, I'm not from Utah.  eBay had removed a listing of a very good friend of mine because she had the words ''Cole Hahn Nike Air'' in her title of a pair of shoes.  Guess what - so did about 3,000 other sellers!!!  She was singled out most likely because a person who had the IDENTICAL shoes listed at a MUCH CHEAPER PRICE complained about something.  But eBay will let this trashy picture and trashy profile message to remain on their site - on a page where others would go to check out this person's buying and selling feedback to determine his worthiness???  You don't know exactly what he said to me in the message.  I am NOT like other ebay members who IGNORE messages, so when I get one, I answer it. Very seldom do I get any inquiries about my items because I list the important information in my listings, thus no need to contact me.  I answered him professionally and IMMEDIATELY blocked him from contacting me, which in turn means he can't bid on or buy any of my items, either.  That there will be telling him to ''get lost'', should he ever be interested in any more of my clothing. And no, the FTC is NOT laughing at my complaint.  Maybe I've been in contact with them since??  You'll never know!!

LadyElizabeth - I didn't know there was a drop-down option like that. I don't get many questions on my items since my listings contain all the information that's needed. But I have blocked him from contacting me again, which includes the inability to bid on or buy any of my items.

BLAUMANN2:  I'm trying to reply to you with a different response, but the site won't post my comment. I wrote to the editor to see if there's a problem. But until it gets posted, let me say that I am a reputable seller, very seldom do I get questions about my items since the important information is listed in my auctions. Ebay members often check the feedback page to determine a buyers/sellers credibility, and this is where the obscene picture and his obscene profile message is posted for all to see!!  I had no idea who this person was that wrote me, YOU DON'T KNOW what all was in his message to me, and once I opened up the message and read it and replied to him PROFESSIONALLY, I immediately blocked him from contacting me again, which includes the inability to bid on or buy any of my items.  I have GROWN UP!!!!

DAISY 909:  Sounds like you had your share of eBay weirdos!!!   I can only imagine the "Barbie" comments you got!!  There's nothing "attractive" or "suggestive" about my user ID.  This weirdo was interested in a scoop-neck top that has a crocheted back and he was under the impression (or should I say "hopes") that the crochet part was in the front!!!!

If children have access to ebay -- and of course they do - then they have access to pornographic photos which is illegal.

Tell that to T&S.

@THAT GUY---

I am not sure what yu were aiming for but--that link is to a badly photo'ed HARDLEY windscreen----

I could be snotty and say----Well what do you EXPECT from Hardley guys but some of the ARE my friends---

As to ebay and porn--yes they DO allow LOTS of porn and NO they will do NOTHING to get RID of it including GAY BOY (child)  PORN.

And YES I did report it to the FTC and a few OTHER places and--still there as far as I can tell.  Ebay declares that it doesn't MATTER if it is porn.  They have decided it is OK to sell KIDDIE PORN---therefore--it is ok to sell kiddie porn.

MING THE MERCILESS:   I agree 100%!!!!  I don't know what eBay is turning into, but I just went to my summary page and typed in an adult item, hit "search" and can't believe how much there is to choose from and they even give "suggestions" at the top of the page you can click on!! It used to be that one had to log-in to view these items but not now!!  So what is eBay doing to stop minors from viewing these items????   NOTHING!!!  It's the equivalent of a minor searching the internet now.  Absurd!!!  If I wasn't making a quick buck selling on eBay, I'd quit again!!!

That seller is a internet perve and if somebody asked me for a photo of my wife or girl (I am single) in ANYTHING- especially a bra or underclothes I would want to punch that guy right in the nose.

I would think that any loving husband would feel exactly the same way as the op.

I would have blocked him and told him to not ever contact me again. There are plenty of other sites that welcome that sort of behavior- it is 100% offensive.

Contrary to popular belief, many men are 100% respectful to women just like I am. Men who will not LEER, men that do not cheat on their girls or wives, men that respect boundaries, and men that do not even talk ill of women when they are alone with their friends.
Respectfully,
MH

BITBYBIT:  Are you serious??  Why - is it going to show up on the left side of my page as "recently viewed items"? Ya know, "pornBay" will bump an auction or even a seller who is not living up to their expectations, but they allow THIS to be accessible to anyone, including minors!!! Even tho you're "supposed to be" 18 to buy/sell on "pornBay", I'm sure there are kids on there looking for stuff that they want their parents to buy. There's nothing to stop them from typing in an adult item!!!  Unreal!!!!
