Arbitration an Option When eBay Sellers Hit a Brick Wall

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
I had a situation earlier this year that concerned filing a notice of dispute with eBay that ultimately wound up in arbitration. I wanted to share my experience with your readers to help highlight this dispute option. It is available to sellers whenever they seek restitution from eBay on a legitimate disagreement where eBay CS agents can't or won't provide relief.

My issue was with three INR cases (Item Not Received) opened against us in 2022. According to eBay policy sellers need to provide valid tracking numbers within three business days from the date the INR case was opened. In these three cases ... Read More

Is eBay Losing Feedback Sellers Have Left for Buyers?

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
Curious problem I have been having for a while: eBay seems to lose feedback. I have a transaction, post feedback, then a month or two later, I get an email to remind me to leave feedback.

From memory, I believe that I left feedback previously, but eBay is now reminding me.

If I check the other parties' feedback, I do not see any feedback from me. I see these old items when I click on the link in the email or when I click on the link at the bottom of my feedback summary page.

Customer service is clueless, to the extent that they understand English. It ... Read More

Seller Amazed Etsy Still Lacks These Two Features

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
Etsy launched their website 18 years ago and they are still limping along with their technology. Two major issues include their inability to size a gallery image and the other is shipping furniture or large items.

Even Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace can size an image. You can't show a floor lamp unless you want to picture the top, middle or bottom only. They must have an I.T. employee with a grammar school education, if that.

Shipping choices are a huge problem for anyone selling or buying larger items. Etsy does not allow a seller to list furniture and select "local pick up only" ... Read More

eBay Reps Helped a Buyer File Fraudulent INR and SNAD Claim

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
I'm a long time eBay seller and reader. Curious to hear if you guys may have already heard about similar situations. To try and make a long story as short as possible...

- Buyer bought an item (no returns, 3-day handling), asked to cancel. It was already shipped so we declined.

- eBay rep assisted buyer in opening a fraudulent INR (Item Not Received) case just 24 hours after buying. Was closed in our favor once it arrived. eBay apologized and admitted it was "mistakenly" opened in the first place.

- eBay rep then assisted buyer in opening a fraudulent SNAD (Significantly Not as Described) claim to ... Read More

Scammers Pose as Etsy Tech Support to Target Sellers

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
I received the following obvious spam direct message (twice in a few seconds) on Etsy. Obviously, I didn't reply with my information, as Etsy already has it. The odd syntax and unnecessary accent on email made it even more glaringly false.

"Hello, you are welcomed by Etsy technical support. Your item was purchased by buyer #985455 but an error occurred. Because of this error you can't see this purchase in your personal account. Please send us your email so we can send you a link to a site where you can confirm the sale and get paid for your item. Best wishes, Etsy ... Read More
