
In a move that could be described as brazen, eBay inserted an ad for its eBay Vault right alongside a seller's photos on the listing page.
The seller alerted us to the ad in their listing for a collectible trading card that was listed for several hundred dollars.
Despite the fact sellers feel the listing page is their real estate since they pay listing fees, eBay has over the years encroached on their territory, displaying ads and promoted listing ads from competing sellers in various places on the page.
But inserting an advertisement that will be seen when a viewer scrolls through the listing photos will likely be seen as intrusive by sellers - especially as it comes with no notice.
We viewed the ad on the seller's listing page. The ad is in the form of a video (eBay now allows sellers to upload videos as well as photos).
The seller said they only uploaded two photos. "When I access the listing page, eBay has inserted a Video in between the 2 photos advertising the Vault Service. If I go to revise the item...The video is not there to remove."
