Will eBay Replace Affiliates with Influencers?

While speculative, the question of whether eBay may be shifting marketing resources from affiliates to social media influencers is valid. 

In recent years, some affiliate marketers have questioned eBay's commitment to the program as they deal with changes that they say make it less profitable for them to promote eBay through the eBay Partner Network program (ePN).

Now comes the news this month that Dan Filowitz, Global Customer Support Manager of eBay Partner Network, is moving to a different role at eBay after 5 years. eBay did not name an immediate successor.

Meanwhile, a reader said eBay surveyed sellers to ask how much they would spend to have influencers promote their products, and specifically if they would pay a referral fee to eBay if such a program resulted in a sale.

When we think of affiliates, we think of those who promote collectibles and used goods as well as cutting edge electronics, gaming, and more - which can benefit many kinds of sellers. When we think of influencers, we think immediately of fashion and trendy items.

Another point: do you think sellers should pay extra fees for sales that result from such campaigns, or should it be baked into the fees they already pay eBay?

I am not sure eBay would be willing to pay what top influencers ask for product placement in their spaces or be willing to subjugate themselves to eBay's notoriously controlling contract process.

It will be interesting to see where it goes.

PLEASE. These influencers need to GO AWAY. This is what is destroying the US.
BS hype instead of honest sellers, selling quality products that are well reviewed by sellers with a high feedback rating.

So tell me, whats the difference between this and the Chinese sellers on Amazon that pay people to give great reviews? Thank God they got banned.

The fast smooth talking con artist from years ago are today's social media "influencer", and probably tomorrows politician. Give me a break. Honest work is honest, BS is BS. GO AWAY!

Just what eBay needs. A bunch of silicon filled, selfie-loving, wack jobs who are drunk on their own self-importance. I'm sure Logan Paul or Kim Kardashian would be a good fit for peddling 99 cent cellphone cables. Instead of paying "influencers," how about hiring some decent CSRs and programmers to help make the site better.
