eBay is sticking with a more traditional holiday-shopping calendar, while Amazon is already boasting about the early start of holiday-shopping on its marketplace.
On Wednesday (October 13, 2021) at 7:50 pm, eBay's Advertising account
tweeted to merchants: "Break out your calendar and circle these important shopping dates to launch your next Promoted Listings portfolio campaign on this holiday season."
- Early October - Halloween
- Early November - Holiday prep
- Nov. 25 - Thanksgiving
- Nov. 26 - Black Friday
- Nov. 27 - Small Business Saturday
- Nov. 29 - Cyber Monday
- Week of Nov. 29 - Cyber Week
- Dec. 5 - First Sunday of December
- Dec. 13 - Green Monday
Meanwhile Amazon kicked off its holiday shopping season on October 4th - the earliest date ever - and
tweeted on Wednesday morning (11:16 am) that it has already sold a million toys on its Holiday Toy List: "Our customers are in full holiday planning mode. Since we kicked off our holiday season, they've purchased more than one million toys on the Holiday Toy List."
Amazon followed up a minute later with
another tweet listing five of its top-selling toys since launching its holiday toy list: the Melissa & Doug Play House Set; L.O.L. Surprise! OMG Sports Cheer Diva Doll; ThinkFun Gravity Maze; Little Tikes First Slide; and LEGO Classic Medium Creative Brick Set.
Amazon's revelation might be more impressive if it revealed how many toys it had sold in the same period last year (or maybe in 2019, given the fact the pandemic changed shopping behavior in 2020).
As a seller (or as a buyer), do you think Amazon is too early in promoting Christmas holiday deals? Or do you think eBay should be doing more to attract early holiday sales?
