And, as usual, not a very attractive new shade of lipstick for the pig. I just don't get why you would WANT to be the new ebay CEO. Until ebay remembers what made them successful IN THE FIRST PLACE, they will just keep chipping away at the rock they once owned. The just don't get it. And frankly Scarlet, who cares what ebay does. They are NOT the only game in town anymore. If u have all of your eggs in ebay's basket you will go down with them. And I can't wait!

Why would anyone want to be eBay CEO?

Well for one it pays pretty well.

Even when you fail miserably and get tossed-out (a-la Devin Wenig), you'd never have to work again if you didn't want to.

Wenig cleared over $57 Million in total comp last year with his Golden Parachute.

Not bad, eh?

I don't sell on eBay any more, but I can't conceive of anyone wanting to be on the BOD for 17 years and the boss of the BOD for 5. I didn't think that they got that much money but then eBay loves to throw money at the folks that aren't making any for them. Like how is it 'thoughtful succession planning" to put the pig in charge of compensation in the spot of the chairman of the board??  I don't understand eBay's way of thinking on anything, but probably because I am too honest and don't know how to be devious.

Forget the gender diversity PC. I don't care if it's a man, woman or monkey - get the best person for the job. I see many more people announcing they are leaving the platform. Facebook Shops is yet another option. I dropped my yearlong subscription and am only doing month to month as other venues are picking up and I don't have to worry about returns 30 days after the fact.

Sellers dont care what gender the BOD is made up of - no one does.

Whats important is to have the best people running the company - black, white, yellow, orange, green, male of female.

And, while Id prefer to have actual HUMANS running the company - based on how its run - they could hire out 1/2 the San Diego Zoo and get better quarterly results!

Yes, Im one of the people who constantly say "yes lets get people in there who have ACTUAL experience in the business we are supposedly in .. you know ecommerce & stuff" ... but why hire people like that - thats just "silly".

Then again Mr Seller Protection had no experience - the book tells you nothing that eBays own Help pages couldnt and they hired him!

Most eBay employees are dolts - Ive met them at shows - bright as a box of 25watt light bulbs.

I only have experience in 1 company that had a Board of directors. It was the actual employees and CEO that ran the company on a day to day basis. The board members were also volunteers. Most of the Board, had no idea on a day to day basis, how the company was run. The Board was made up of very competent individuals with diverse backgrounds but without knowledge of the actual nuts and bolts. They voted on resolutions presented to them and never once in 8 years did a resolution not pass. They were basically yes people. I do not know how other Boards work and to what extent the ebay Board has any actual influence or input on the decisions that are being made.

Managed Payments is probably THE largest, most impactful, and most complex paradigm shift in operations eBay has ever attempted. And given the unprecedented increase (and likely a permanent ‘sea change) in ‘Socially distant buying procedure’ equating to a three fold increase in online purchases everywhere, well, that’s a perfect time to rattle the cages and replace whole chunks of the upper echelons, right?

Not.

Especially with folks who have no experience or insight into that cesspool of a venue, or eCom in general, no matter how financially or technology product experienced.

Those attributes, while certainly appearing to be ‘relevant’, fall woefully short without any insight into their specific applicability to the associated business model.

But that’s eBay for ya. Shuffling the deck chairs even as deck space dwindles as more and more dips beneath the waves every day.
