eBay provided a sneak peek at its Spring Seller Update, which it will officially announce on Wednesday.
One change that is coming relates to shipping, executives revealed during a Town Hall meeting on Tuesday, but they would not reveal any details.
However, they did provide information about some of the other changes that will be announced tomorrow's Spring Update. One that may be of greatest interest to sellers are new capabilities in the Offers to Buyers feature (known internally as Seller Initiated Offers, or SIO).
eBay will add what it called a "heavy browse" component. In cases where a buyer clicks a seller's item more than 3 times, the seller will be able to extend them an offer.
Sellers are currently limited as to how their "Offers to Buyers" are made in several ways - as
eBay explains on its help page: "You can make an offer to a buyer if they are watching your item or have placed it into their shopping cart but haven't checked out within five days."
The process is anonymous, since eBay does not reveal shoppers' identities until they make a purchase from a seller. Note that there is currently no additional cost to sellers who use the Offers to Buyers feature.
eBay is also extending the number of buyers an offer reaches from 10 to 40. (Originally eBay would send a seller's offer to the 10 most recent people who expressed an interest in the item.)
eBay also said the Spring Seller Update would include changes to the Multi-User Account feature (eBay will expand it geographically); Terapeak (eBay will turn off "old" Terapeak); and Image Cleanup.
Let us know what you think, and stay tuned for more details in the February 26th Spring Seller Update announcement.
