A Hint eBay Plans a New Store Subscription Level

By: Ina Steiner

Sellers have long requested eBay create a new Store subscription level because of a big gap they feel currently exists. Today, a seller reported eBay sent a survey asking them specifically about the issue.

"This has been an ongoing subject on the boards," the seller wrote on this eBay discussion board thread. "Maybe eBay is actually listening?"

The seller explained why they were heartened by the survey:

"The survey asked directly if I would use a store level between Premium and Anchor. It also included questions about the possibility of a monthly flat payment to increase the number of "Free" listings that would be month to month with no contract or yearly obligation. I'm assuming something less expensive than the .35 per listing or less that we are now paying for going over the limit."

You can find information about the five Store levels currently offered on this eBay.com help page.

eBay will announce the Spring Seller Update tomorrow (February 26th), and some sellers have speculated whether a change in Store subscription levels would be among the changes.

Does the survey point to that being the case? Or is it a sign eBay isn't ready to make such an announcement tomorrow - what do you think?

I actually think that this is a good idea. Sellers would have more control on how many of their listings will be hidden.

After closing 4 out of 5 anchor stores over the past 18 months and downgrading the 5th one to under the anchor store no amount of cajoling or hot air is going to ever get us to expand on greedbay again. We are migrating our 35000 listings to Amazon instead. They may not be any better but after 20 years on greedbay we just don't want to be their punching bag any longer. We are don't finished through. One more stupid decision from Greedbay and we will close the last store faster than they can lite a match to the wastebasket in the ivory tower.

I would not put all my eggs in the amazon basket. Amazon has no problem banning your account for no reason without possibility of appeal or support.

Ebay is a much better company with tough policies but at least they don't ban you for no reason.

We have been on Amazon seems like forever. Never have we had a problem. The disgust, arrogance is overwhelming on Greedbay. You people stay there and keep being their whipping boy and whining everyday about it. Greedbay is a sinking ship and believe me your people will be the first to jump ship.

I have been selling on Amazon for 20 plus years. Never had a problem.
You sell, confirm shipment, about 30 minute later, transfer you money. Usually takes 2 days to show up in your bank.
Amazon is a much better company with tough policies but at least they don't ban you for no reason.

Just because you haven't been banned for no reason without appeal yet doesn't mean they don't ban people for no reason without appeal.

RKTOYS is correct.

I was banned for accepting amazon payments on the site ioffer. Never sold anything on amazon.....Only accepted ioffers preferred payment method. I sold genuine items and never was accused or received a dispute that said otherwise.

They decided one day they would ban everyone who used that checkout because they believed some sellers on the site sold counterfeits. Ina can confirm the blanket ban regardless of guilt or innocence of ioffer sellers.

I appealed my ban and got no response. I included multiple invoices to prove authenticity of the item I sold confirming I didn't violate any terms of service.

I opened a BBB dispute amazon to get answers about my ioffer ban and they responded by issuing me a second email notifying me of a ban for selling money orders. Then the response to the BBB was a canned copy of the email I was sent about being banned for selling money orders. I have never sold a money order nor had I previously been accused of selling one.

Trust amazon at your own peril. They have no problem banning for no reason. Then to make matters worse they tried to cover it up when challenged.

“ Ebay is a much better company with tough policies but at least they don't ban you for no reason.”

That’s true. Instead, eBay applies a ‘reason’ (or ‘metrics’s) that have no basis in fact, then no means for appeal. Alternately, they hide listings so as to continue to collect fees while the seller’s sales plummet, which while allowing a continued ‘presence’, effectively ‘bans’ sales.

Right. Much better.

Honestly, I dont see ebay being aggressive enough in changing things there. They are loosing business period. If this news of a store subscription inbetween anchor and premium came along with a bunch of other sweeping changes for the better I would say great. They are looking in all the wrong places as far as change goes. Yes this may be a welcome change, but there are other places to focus on first.

Why dont they start by not charging for listings like everyone else does. Dont charge for auctions. Dont charge for a reserve price. And God damn it start promoting Auctions again. Thats what got ebay started off, thats what brings people...both buyers and sellers. The act like it's the wuhan virus.

Fix this whole thing with stagnant listings. The GTC BS created a problem. A TON OF STAGNANT LISTINGS! REINDEX ALL LISTINGS REGULARLY! Before that GTC on all listings crap started all of my listings sell. Now if I dont get a sale for a month thats it....it goes into a black hole. And all of my listings were GTC before. So clearly that change they made did something to either rank, or re-indexing or both.

I was wondering why I didn't sell anything today. It's because eBay is tweaking the website. Good to know, thanks ecommercebytes

If Ebay is creating a new store level it is only to try and retain business they continue to lose prior to selling the place to a competitor.  When Ebay first mentioned selling Stub Hub the intention was to take those funds and fix the problems with the marketplace which Elliott thought would add value to the company.  Now that the sale has been made Ebay has announced the proceeds are going to be used to buy back stock which will make the remaining stock more valuable, at least they believe it will.

Management has thrown in the towel and realized that they cannot save the marketplace enough to bring any value to shareholders so they are using the funds to buy back stock in hopes of driving the price up that way.  The flag that Ebay is now flying is the white surrender flag and they will now try any short term trick to drive the price up so they can maximize their exit packages when Ebay is bought out.  That explains why they are not really trying to find a REAL new CEO and letting a useless yes man direct the company even further into the ground all while creating and backing policies and decisions which will bolster the stock price in the very short term.

I know it will never happen but I would love for the Shareholders to vote to repeal all of those golden parachutes that are being put on in anticipation of jumping ship very soon.  I would love nothing better than to see all these executives and BOD members sued individually once the new owners see just how overstated every asset is on Ebays Balance Sheet as well as the Fraudulent GMV they announce each and every quarter all while sellers continue to complain about a real lack of sales.

Brilliant - how about a new 'Promoted Listings Plus' scheme,  pay more than regular Promoted Listings to have your listing not appear higher in search than bog standard Promoted Listings...

Or, why not try our 'Promoted Listings Deluxe' package?  Price includes an online meet n' greet with an eBay customer service representative, located outside the UK, with free use of the Star Trek Universal Translator so you can understand what he/she is saying when they can't help you.

Oh please. This isn't the first time this question has been asked in a seller survey. They'll ignore the answers the same way they always ignore what doesn't suit their plans.
