Are You Experiencing These Issues on eBay?

By: Ina Steiner

eBay acknowledged it had a couple of technical issues today - see this Newsflash article- but sellers have been reporting other issues since last week. Let us know if you're experiencing any issues.

Markdown Manager
There were a few problems reported with Markdown Manager. On October 7, a seller emailed that there were delays in sales starting ("created a sale today and it is now going on 7.5 hours and it is still showing pending"). Another seller reported via Ecommerce EKG on October 9 that a 35% off sale was still running 5 hours after they had ended it. And on October 15 in the comments of this Ecommerce EKG report, it appears the problems continue - "Can't add items and sales seem to be taking longer than usual to take effect."

Ghost Invoices
Sellers reported via email and Ecommerce EKG that they received messages from eBay about old invoices from June, July, and August - for example, "Your July 15, 2019 invoice is ready for download." Not surprisingly some sellers were concerned they might be double billed.

Postage and Payments Issues
A seller reported problems printing postage yesterday and said a buyer reported eBay would not combine payments for a purchase today. The post on the eBay boards elicited discussion about issues others were having.

In addition, eBay reported the following issues today, which it classified as resolved at 8:47 pm ET:

Item Specifics
eBay said there were "problems when revising or creating listings within Clothing, Shoes and Accessories categories." On this thread, some sellers discussed the problems they were encountering, with one sharing a screenshot showing the message ("It looks like there's a problem with this listing. Item specifics - The item specific Size is missing,...")

Seller Hub
"We've received reports of technical issues in Seller Hub, including sales graphs not being up to date," eBay wrote. And on this Ecommerce EKG report, a seller wrote, "Today and the previous 3 days are missing from the sales graph."

Technical issues happen. Once sellers know of a particular problem, it can save them time and aggravation, so kudos to eBay for using the message board to alert sellers to today's issues. One seller wrote today after discovering a thread about the issues, "Good to know that it is not just me - I've been screwing with a listing for what feels like forever with the same error message. I'll put it aside for now and try again tomorrow with it."

Another seller wrote upon learning of the technical issues, "good day to take off from listing."

eBay  posted that the problems with Item Specifics and Seller Hub were resolved at 8:47 pm ET. Let us know which if any problems you're currently experiencing and if/how they are impacting you.

Update 10/16/2019: Tuesday evening's note that the problems were resolved disappeared from the Announcement Board post on Wednesday, and sellers continued to report major problems creating and revising listings due to problems with Item Specifics.

The issues appear to be quite serious - eBay executive Harry Temkin had to cancel an Facebook Live appearance on Wednesday afternoon because he was "working with teams on resolving the technical issues surrounding Item Specifics."

We're not sure if the issue with Item Specifics is also impacting buyers who try to narrow down searches using filters.

Nope graphs still all messed up for the last few days

The whole point of that data is to be accurate. If it isnt then there is no point to it. Ebay cant even maintain its own website from these excessive glitches. Yet they want to manage payments and process sensitive information and keep records. They cant even keep pictures on listings. Still suffering from that glitch. Hundreds of listings affected last year and all they offered was free listings which I already get with anchor store. This site is becomming more and more of a joke.

Tuesday Postage & Shipping Labels - eBay bulk shipping multiple error messages received.  Three 6 oz USPS first class orders received message " mail delivery system could not be found"  and one 4 oz USPS first class package received message "error with shipping address" when there was no error, address was correct.

Not good when I had 17 packages to ship Tuesday.  Very frustrating.

The new bulk shipping tool overall has not been pleasant to use. Way too many glitches happening on a regular basis.  It should be drop kicked to the curb.  The old bulk shipping tool worked just fine.

If the problems continue, I will be joining the thousands of eBay sellers who buy their shipping labels elsewhere.

Issues I have had in the past 24 hours:

1.  A new mandatory Size field in clothing was added.  However, the size that was listed in the old field was not automatically populated to the new field.  I'm not entirely sure why they created a new field to begin with.  The ''fix'' for this is apparently to ignore the new field.  Regrettably it is not to populate the field correctly and will most likely become a problem down the road.  (Kick the can programming)

2.  Specific to men's suits and sport coats.  Last year these two categories were combined.  One of the mandatory fields at that time was Waist.  Well for suits that's all well and good, but for sport coats, its a bit ambiguous and can come across as misleading.  The new item specifics have both a waist field (not required) and a ''Waist circumference'' field.  I asked a support rep what they wanted in waist circumference.  He did not know but thought maybe pants waist.  I explained that a sport coat did not have pants....so he said jacket waist.  I then asked that if he were confused, doesn't he think the buyer might be as well.....

3.  When shipping an international package, Priority Mail International was not an option.  Only 1st class int, and Priority Express were options.  This was about a 20.00 difference that I had to eat.

4.  For a good while yesterday Search did not have a filter for size.  It is back today for some searches, not for others.  It appears to be getting its info from the old size field, not the new still unpopulated field.

I'm sure I am not seeing everything, but this is what I have so far.

A week ago my Promoted Listings on the Dashboard showed 6.8 million listing impressions; then overnight they dropped to just over 4 million. My daily listing impressions figures all dropped substantially, and sales have slowed way down since (I am on the phone to Ebay CS in Manila right now, explaining this over and over and over). Has anyone else seen this happen to their account?

Reading the anger on the boards over this while they try to remain 'board courteous' is hilarious. A few even dropped the Kool Aid and got downright pissed. And not a word from the daily cheerleading plants. This is more entertaining than a movie.

For a while we were shown in ''our take'' that our active listing had decreased in the seller hub, when in fact we had added more listing.  The whole seller hub is just an illusion, eBay control every aspect of the listing, when is shown and to who.  If the seller hub keeps accurate number, it will clearly show that only a portion of your listing are visible at a given time.  I'm pretty sure that they don't want that information to be so clearly stated on the seller hub.

I certainly experienced the issues with a mark down sale. Finally put an end to one that wouldn't launch. What I find hilarious is that on Etsy, I can run a mark down sale and it actually appears in less than a few minutes. How is it that eBay can turn everything into the most complicated piece of junk.

Anything to do with sales numbers and percentages I don't look at anymore. There is no correlation with activity whatsoever. The only thing that is constant is that I get no sales for five days. This has happened since August. Then the light comes on and a get a few in a couple of days before the lights turn off yet again. August 11 then dead until today. Three sales in a row. Absolutely nuts.

I know that some have correlated it to when payments are due, but I never owe eBay anything. I pay there fee as soon as I sell something.

Just checked. Four items I added to my new markdown sale, pending since yesterday morning. My Lord....they can't fix anything. Maybe they can borrow a programmer from Etsy?

eBay is nothing more than one problem after another which keeps getting stacked on top of each other into a giant dung pile. Nothing will ever get fixed, they just shuffle the deck which then turns into another problem. eBay's culture of incompetence is still strong because of Wenig and this won't change with a new permanent CEO. The damage is just too great for them to repair. Some have suggested eBay should be bought out by another company, but who want want to deal with this complete mess eBay has created? Nobody. Competitors would rather see eBay go away and that's the only thing eBay is good at: burying themselves.

New mandatory Item Specifics added to the Stamps Category are not consistent the Scott Catalog which defines the US stamp marketplace. Consistent terminology is required for effective left panel searching. Will professional stamp dealers active in multiple venues change descriptive terms to be consistent with eBay? Most do not have time for detailed eBay listing forms. Software to build listings and populate Item Specifics must have a stable list of field values consistent with listing on a seller web site or other venues. Whenever eBay makes a sudden and poorly documented change to the listing process, it will fail.

@joe_saint
Try to keep at least one alternative shipping method in place.  I use Pirate Ship as my primary, but I have Paypal Shipping, EBay Labels, and Auctiva Shipping if needed.  On that $20 difference, I would think shipping that one item through Paypal would have worked, letting you use PM International instead of Express.  If it was purchased with PayPal, that is.  It would be more trouble, re-familiarizing yourself with that system, but for $20 it might be worth it.

A further complication with the promotions / mark down glitch. None of my items require immediate payment. However, all my current mark downs now require immediate payment, pick up orders are being charged postage and I am unable to issue combined postage invoices.

Only "glitch" I have noticed is that ever since we night left my sales have exploded. Oct is heading towards being the best month in years. I wonder if the temp CEO rolled back some of the things he did?

"Consistent terminology is required..."

The only things consistent with anything eBay is the needless idiocy of concept, the ineptness execution without testing, and the confusion from the results.

They are like a Three Stooges firing squad - Ready -- FIRE! -- Aim.

Markdown manager is not working or slow.

My sales from the current day are not showing (at least a week now) and this morning?  Totals are completely off.  By almost $10,000.  Kind of hard to get motivated when on a great 1800.00 day they show 0.00

THANKS.

when you list 30 items with the so called 50 free listings deal, have absolutely NO sales , and still get an invoice swiping 2.50 or 3.00 , is a great issue also. now i'm spending time on the phone getting this fixed.  as usual it takes a few calls and and lots of time to get it done. imagine the money grab on a few hundred thousand sellers for that couple dollars. a nice pocket liner for that corrupt thief. glad i closed my 3 stores last year. what a waste ebay has become.
