ebay owns NOTHING...sells NOTHING...ships/delivers NOTHING.
ALL items sold that are covered by ebay's "large deal event" will result in a NET LOSS for ebay.
ebay underwrites...at THEIR expense... all discounts from the posted price.
If you are still intent on buying ebay stock, wait until the 2nd quarter results are posted. It will be much cheaper.

So Devin, Is this why eBay is restricting sellers' abilities to discount products? Is this why you are removing Seller Promotions from listings? Are they competing with an actual EBAY BRAND AND MARKETING CAMPAIGN? Are my promotions better than yours so they are making the brand look bad? Oh, I get it, my promotions are better than those you want to push business to, so you just hide mine?

Oh but wait . . . . so many sellers have not been able to markdown items. That the week of the 16th - all of our items will flood the site with markdowns trying to make up for lost sales. Is this the intent of eBay restricting us? Is this a calculated move to simply show they can try to compete with eBay?

price advantages - ummm no you dont have that. While you take is lower percentage wise, because of other issues including higher postage costs (fast n free) you end up having HIGHER costs. Plus you have to factor in the theftacular costs (fake SNADs) into the cost of goods to begin with.

Expect the next wave of our brand and marketing campaign to launch as well. - another float at the SF LGBTQ parade perhaps? That for sure will drive away Christians, Jews and Muslims. Maybe you will show up for CES 2019 ??? Nah, the manufacturers hate you and you were belittled there the LAST time you showed up. "Fill you cart with color" = "fill DWs wallet with YOUR cash"

PS: Wenig, "Innovate" doesn't mean "do everything Amazon does."

You're a far cry from even approaching an almost-as-good Amazon. Your virtual world is built only with invisible bits and bytes with tens of millions of sellers ready to jump ship. Amazon has real infrastructure, real product, and real warehousing and distribution facilities and networks. And their site works.

Can't wait to see the new ad campaign, I'm sure it's going to really be something special.

Stop Following Amazon, that is whats killing you!  Your Focus is way off, and your Liberal leanings are showing and don't help.  Ebay should try hard to stay politically Neutral just like most sellers do, your site sucks,management sucks and on top of that you are coming across as a major Leftist organization and that's hurting you in 2018, STAY NEUTRAL! As many problems as Ebay has, Amazon is worse. It is a Wall Street-directed and created monopoly with one goal in mind- to control.

As it destroys small and medium business, the goal is control over what the consumer buys, the price they will pay, everything.

It may be smiles and kisses now, but monopolies suddenly turn nasty, and people will find out they supported a monster that bites them, whether they are a buyer or seller

It already is nasty for the slave labor in China that Amazon is built on, and the small businesses that were destroyed in favor of profits for multinational corporate interests.

Many people don't even realize that Amazon is far from a success. They make their money from cloud services. Not retail.

But they are willing to lose on retail as they put the monopoly together with Wall Street's assistance and promotion, and expand it. That is the ultimate goal.

ebay started as (and for the most part is known as) being an online flea-market.  And that's not meant as an insult.  When I am looking for something old, used, or vintage, my go to is first ebay.  But when I am shopping for something new, my go-to is Amazon.

I don't see ebay ever directly competing or being compared to amazon.  Two different markets.

prices on average are now HIGHER on ebay then any other venue, you will pay more to shop on ebay, because it costs more to sell on ebay, it's just that simple

Attn Devin Wenig:

Ebay is paying you all those overpaid millions of dollars to be a LEADER not a FOLLOWER.  All I ever see you do now is react to something that Amazon has done because every original idea you have managed to come up with has been a flop.  Rather than do something before or after Amazon Prime, now you are going to tweet that Ebay is going to launch this huge new marketing campaign that week that is going to make Amazon look pathetic.

Can you please explain how that is going to be successful when you operate your marketing department on a shoestring budget, especially compared to Amazon.   Your advertising firm (if Ebay actually uses an outside firm) needs to be changed to one that has decent ideas (Oh yea that would cost money so i guess that is out of the question, but maybe how about a US company that understands what Americans buy).  I know that you would want to take the other 10% of the TRS discount to pay for this advertising like you did the last huge marketing campaign that flopped, but this time it might be smart for Ebay to pay for something and then maybe even show sellers items for say maybe 24/7/365 so that they can sell something?

When you hide a sellers items because you need to spread the wealth and convince other sellers whose items are not selling as well but you want them to purchase a store by manipulating their sales, all you do is push your sellers with the better and nicer items to other sites, including Amazon, where they are allowed to sell as much as they can because it benefits the company through additional FVF.  But Ebay is so dependent on the monthly store income now because nothing has to sell in order for them to collect it, that it is now the focus of how to manipulate sales instead of whose items do the buyers really want.  So the buyers go elsewhere to buy what they really wanted in the first place.

I sell on other sites and many of those buyers know I sell on ebay also and ask why i don't have that item out on EBay.  When I tell them I do they let me know that they cannot find it on Ebay anywhere.  So that other site now makes a nice FVF on the sale and Ebay sits there pounding sand as usual.  I now sell as much on this other site as I do on Ebay where up until the middle of last year the split was more like 90% Ebay and 10% other site.  

Ebay needs to get their act together and get some thinkers in the company that actually know something.  Oh thats right you just got rid of many of those because they realized what a joke you are as a leader and I am sure have lost respect for you.  I just found out one person that is either gone or going to be gone, and that is going to be another huge loss for Ebay talent wise.  When this announcement is made public it is going to make Ebay look so much worse than when Hal Lawton left and took Jill Ramsey with him.  I have a feeling that Ebay Open is going to have a much different topic being discussed than what Wenig wants it to be, that is for sure.

Sellers and buyers used to be obsessed with eBay (I know I was), but I'm pretty sure the obsession has waned considerably, and is now bordering on loathing. And Amazon certainly doesn't have to worry about competitors since they are the leader of the pack.

Passion for invention leaves eBay out completely. They created something wonderful, and then let greed get in the way. Now they just copy everything Amazon does.

Commitment to operational excellence is not eBay. How many more glitches have to occur before the entire site implodes?

Long-term thinking is most definitely not eBay. They implement changes with no concept of what will happen down the line. If it looks good today, who cares about tomorrow.

I have a feeling that Jeff laughed himself silly when he heard about Devin's tweet.

Wenig personifies schizophrenic. One day he wants to be ebafia, and the next day he wants to be Amazon. Blather and repeat. He vacillates back and forth and can't seem to settle on a viable LONG TERM strategy to stay afloat. And neither could his predecessor which is why ebafia is sinking, and the downward spiral begun in 2008 is gathering momentum.

Carol Is Here has it absolutely right about Amazon. They are a dangerous presence in e commerce just as Walmart was/is to Main Street.

Wenig must think ebay is a destination. It's not.
ebay is an e-commerce store in the internet mall.
Does he actually believe that buyers don't price shop among stores, and NOT just among ebay sellers?
Does he actually believe that long-time ebay sellers have total intolerance for getting screwed over?
Does he actually believe that screwed over sellers don't tell 3 people, and those 3 people each tell 3 people, ad infinitum?
Does he actually believe he's smart AND worth $17M?
Word, Wenig...your stock DIPPED today on the heels of that grand announcement.
Investors are actually smarter than you...except the ones that bought at $46.
See you at $18...you can cook those books just so much.
