Is Amazon Planning a Prime Day Head Fake?

One day, some years ago, traffic to a great swath of Amazon sites slowed to such a crawl that it set off alarm bells for the group responsible for the global websites' uptime. But, according to the anecdotal story, it was not a technology problem, but instead, it was the final game of that year's World Cup soccer match with the world watching instead of shopping.

So we weren't surprised when reports surfaced that Amazon may plan on holding its annual Prime Day shopping event a week later than expected, possibly due to the 2018 World Cup.

TechRadar.com spotted a Prime Day 2018 banner prematurely displayed on the Amazon UK website that showed Prime Day is scheduled for Tuesday July 17th, with deals starting at midday on Monday and running for 36 hours (possibly 39 hours in the US). Note that the final game of this year's World Cup is July 15th.

Amazon has yet to announce the date of Prime Day, though as we reported, it has advised FBA sellers to prepare their inventory for July's shopping extravaganza.

Some retailers try to take advantage of the "halo effect" of Amazon Prime Day by running sales on their own websites at the same time. Those who had been preparing marketing campaigns for July 10th may see a July 17th date as a head fake - though they may capture the attention of some early back-to-school shoppers.

Many things can impact shopping, but when you're holding a global sales event like Amazon Prime Day, it's best not to forget to factor in global sporting events.

Maybe FeeBAy could use World Cup as an excuse to those who inquire about zero views/zero sales. It's about the only one they have told yet.

Only Ebay is dumb enough to have a great sale day on Christmas. The idiots in the Ivory Tower have no clue.

Graft and the boys will soon say:  "Your items may not be seen due to: Sports events, solar flares, immigration policy, El Nino, celebrity suicides, Russian server hacking, elections, meteor showers, alien abductions, spider bites, magnetic anomalies in the earth's crust, or other events"

Amazon doesn't make its money from retail lol. They lose. They aren't a stunning sucess as so many have been tricked into believing.

They make money from AWS.

Amazon is a deceit created thanks to Wall Streeters that want monopolies and hate small and medium business.
