If I recall correctly, a while back eBay was pushing sellers to list more expensive items. Now they are advocating under $10 merchandise. eBay is seriously having some sort of identity crisis. They don't want to be Amazon, they want to be Amazon. They don't cheap items, they want cheap items. It seems like every day they have a new path they want to take.

Rexford is absolutely right.  Everything for sale will be Asian import rubbish - pot metal bendable screwdrivers, plastic junk mini-toys, and those little flashlights that don't work.  A buyer can get this stuff in limitless quantities at garage sales, flea markets and local dollar stores, where they can see the (lack of) quality.  Why on earth would a buyer gamble by buying this garbage on eBay ?

I think it is a fabulous idea.  With the exception of the fact it will probably get overran with Asian sellers.  Solve that issue and I think this is a very good idea.

eBay just put a VERY large portion of its sellers out of business, Because their own adds will take, They also eliminated the 50 free listings/month and now want you to buy a store, Why when they're just going to put you out of business anyway.

How does launching the Dollar Store put you out of business?

I respect that the changes Ebay made in adding the new store level can be unexpected and concerning, but if you can't afford to spend $5 on a store per month, then your little business was not helping your income level in the first place.

With that $5 you get double the listings you got before with no additional charge and you get some of the benefits of having a store that are also valuable.  The ability to put your listings on vacation hold or run a special sale are great benefits too.

I hope your little business does not go under and I further hope you have great success.

Everything is under $10.  It however does not appear that all categories are represented or at least not yet.

It appears nothing more than a landing page linking to "regular" ol' eBay with items simply filtered <$10.

Am I missing something?  Otherwise, color me unimpressed.

All those cheap import items certainly resonate the message Wenig sent at the annual Goldman Sachs tech conference - eBay is the largest exporter of Chinese goods worldwide.

You say spend, I say flush.  Smart businesspeople don't waste money on things that don't deliver value.  eBay's TOS doesn't even guarantee visibility!  No, really, the most basic promise that a relationship with any venue should deliver and they punt on it.  It's gambling....and a lottery ticket has more upside for a $5 investment.

Great, then of course this is something you would not want to do.  But because it would not work for you does not mean it won't work for others.  The poster that I was responding to felt that the fee would cause them to go bankrupt.  I was addressing their comment.  And what I said was true.  As to whether it is something you may want to take advantage of is a completely different question / concern.
