Would You Pay eBay or Amazon for Coaching?

By: Ina Steiner

Would you pay eBay or Amazon for coaching services? What if that included advice and access to programs that could boost your sales?

What if it also included access to an account manager with dedicated support and performance consultation can help you troubleshoot and resolve issues faster?

Amazon launched a program this year called Amazon Marketplace Growth, but it's not for everyone - the program costs at minimum $2,500/month. You can read about it in this EcommerceBytes Newsflash article.

Should you have to pay to have access to an account manager on a marketplace like eBay or Amazon? And how much would you be willing to pay (say, as a percentage of sales)?

Anyone who can afford to pay these bloated bureaucratic corporations $2,500 a month to get what ALL store owners should be getting for free paid for with their monthly store fee.

How much would I be willing to pay?

ZERO.

However I would pay to get the entire C level management removed.

No.  There are so many tutorials on Youtube where you get advice from seasoned sellers and it's free.   There are youtubers who now offer coaching services.  You can buy books on FBA.   Ecommerce is what it is - it's competitive and sellers can't work harder faster to get their goods sold and shipped.  If they don't want us little sellers or think we're not doing enough, they should drop us.

The rah rah unit of ebay needs a flashlight and a road map to the bathroom. I don't need either as its the first door on the left. Why would I pay them to tell me that.

for $2500 a month you could have a primo website and a massive Google / Bing ad's campaign, which would outperform Amazon or ebay by 10x

If Amazon is doing it, then imitative eBay will be right behind them. Good grief.

Would not pay for coaching, would invest in my own promotion (google et.) on independent site. Fees are for 3 months according to article. It seems the more fees you are willing to pay, the more new types of fees become available.

Any ebay coaching should have a disclaimer:
"All lessons and/or advice are hypothetical in nature. Any resemblance to real world e-commerce marketing is purely coincidental."

eBay doesn't have a single employee who would be qualified to coach anyone about selling on their site.

After reading Rexford's comment, I think some of the regular posters here should offer their coaching services.

@Ming

"ALL store owners should be getting for free paid for with their monthly store fee."

I pay eBay $19.95 a month for a store

It would business FOOLISH for eBay to provide me a person who gets paid $25-$30 an hour for consultation on my eBay store. . .I think $2500 would be steep and it should be more like $250. . .

From WHOM ? The following eBay brass have ZERO ecommerce experience - so ... should we get "taught lessons" from them?

Fred D. Anderson: Mr. Anderson has been a Managing Director of Elevation Partners, a private equity firm focused on the media and entertainment industry

Edward W. Barnholt:  Mr. Barnholt served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Agilent Technologies, Inc., a measurement company

Anthony J. Bates:  Mr. Bates served as President of GoPro, Inc. from June 2014 until December 2016 (PS - GoPro is almost Chap 11 at this point)

Adriane M. Brown: Ms. Brown is a senior advisor at Intellectual Ventures, LLC

Diana Farrell: She is the Founding President and CEO of JPMorgan Chase Institute

Logan D. Green: Mr. Green has been the co-founder and CEO of Lyft

Bonnie S. Hammer: Ms. Hammer has been Chairman of NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment

IM STILL TRYING TO FIND SOMEONE WITH ECOMMERCE EXPERIENCE ... HAND ON!

Kathleen C. Mitic: Ms. Mitic is the Founder and CEO of Sitch Inc. (formerly Three Koi Labs Inc.)

Pierre M. Omidyar: YEY WE FOUND ONE ... Except that hes not REALLY involved much anymore .... (and they are currently ignoring his philosophies)

Paul S. Pressler: Mr. Pressler is a partner at the private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, LLC.

Robert H. Swan:  Mr. Swan is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Intel Corporation

Thomas J. Tierney: Mr. Tierney is co-founder of The Bridgespan Group, a nonprofit

Perry M. Traquina: Mr. Traquina served as Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, and Managing Partner of Wellington Management Company LLP

Devin N. Wenig: 18 years at Thomson Reuters.

Well so there we have it ... maybe one of the dorks over at Lithium can give us pointers ... you know those idiots that add new "unwritten rules" on the eBay boards.

The do nothings get THIS or more: The typical eBay Senior Manager salary is $160,305. Senior Manager salaries at eBay can range from $108,856 - $200,000. This estimate is based upon 38 eBay Senior Manager salary …

Unless they plan on paying ME 108,000.00$ (for my $2500) .... no thanks.

Toolie - thats the dumbest comment you've made this year! You could smoke your entire crop this year and still have more ecommerce nous than the entire Ebay board.
