What Will eBay Announce on Friday?
By: Ina Steiner
eBay CEO Devin Wenig will be making an announcement in Ohio tomorrow, but he didn't provide specifics in his tweet: "I am looking forward to being in Akron, Ohio tomorrow with Mayor Daniel Horrigan @AkronOhioMayor to make an announcement about the role technology (and @ebay) will play in revitalizing small business, the true engine of the US economy."
The speech will be followed by a panel discussion consisting of Brian Bieron, Executive Director of Global Public Policy for eBay; Anno Vyas, Co-Director of the University of Akron's EXL Center for Experiential Learning; and Christine Amer Mayer, President of the GAR Foundation, who will moderate.
"Small Business in the 21st Century - Local Roots, Global Reach" will focus on "how ecommerce can create big opportunity for small business."
Wenig's tweet is not fueling the frenzy of speculation that Amazon's announcement
spurred today in which it released the 20 finalists in its search for a home for its second headquarters, but we'd like to hear what readers believe could be the topic of tomorrow's announcement - what could eBay be planning to do to help small businesses?
While you're at it, feel free to weigh in on which city you think Amazon will select for its new, second headquarters, and if you think it will be a blessing or a curse for neighboring residents and businesses. Living in MetroWest Boston, it's interesting to speculate on how an Amazon "HQ2" would impact the area.
