Vote Now in the 9th Annual Sellers Choice Awards

By: Ina Steiner

Congratulations to the ten Sellers Choice 2018 finalists, including one marketplace that appears on the list for the very first time!

This is EcommerceBytes' 9th annual Sellers Choice Marketplace awards, when sellers turn the tables and put the spotlight on marketplace performance. You're rated on a range of metrics throughout the year, now you can rate the marketplaces on four criteria: profitability; customer service; communications; and ease of use. You can also rank each venue on how likely you are to recommend them as a selling venue to a friend or colleague.

Our favorite part of Sellers Choice is the free-form section where sellers leave comments, often describing the challenges they've faced over the past year and taking note of the improvements they've seen. We call it "the good, the bad, and the ugly."

Please participate by visiting the Sellers Choice survey on Survey Monkey, and thanks to everyone who took the time to participate in the nominations process.

We'll announce the results in the February issue of EcommerceBytes Update and publish the results on our website for all to see.

Can't wait to see how Etsy is rated this year.

Me, too. I'm wondering which venue will dispatch the most employees and contract employees to vote.

@ Marie

True.

However, there have been some highly questionable 'winners' in the past.

Where you may have success, I may not.  Some sites work better than others for different people for different reasons.  It just isn't the same for everyone.

I'm not naive, I just know everything does not work the same for everyone.  Different categories have higher risks than others just as different sites offer different thing to people.

@RK

"More is rigged than you realize."  With respect, I don't know how you could possibly know that.

Bonanza won the top award a couple of years ago.

This should answer any questions about whether this is or has been "rigged" in the past.

Extinct Bay- I thought the same thing when I saw Bonanza had won!

How is that even possible??  And what did they do to deserve the honor?

It is absolutely impossible to find anything on that site, let alone sell anything.  I have looked for things and shops with the exact name and they just don't show up.

As far as things being rigged- Etsy admits they rig things all the time.  They don't try to hide it anymore.

@Marie

My comments have nothing to do with which venue works for which sellers nor was it directed toward the Steiners.

The point is that some of us at least are doubtful that Bonanza and Etsy won fair and square.

That's right, you don't.  Spin is so ubiquitous that people don't even recognize it.  I've regularly seen decisions made before stakeholders were consulted and data warped to fit a chosen narrative.  You ever wonder why a paper trail is never provided or every question is multiple choice with no specifics?

Comments like eCRATER yours "Rigged~! How did eCRATER even make the list????  It never shows anything in searches." are just not true. Those of us that have been selling there for a while know that it isn't true. And because the site owner treats us like adults with businesses to run, we don't run into stupid things like auto-return and its accompanying auto-refund.

ECRATER made the list because some of us sell on it! So far for this three day weekend, I have no orders from Amazon, but I do have one from eCRATER from a buyer in NZ. I then checked one of the last items I listed on eCRATER and it does show up on Google Shopping. Currently I have had 5083 sales just from eCRATER. I don't sit back hoping that somehow something will sell. I actively promote my inventory that is for sale. And guess what? I get sales. Yes I would like to make more so I work at it.

Like @Moonwishes... I have high marks for eCrater... their Seller support is awesome when you encounter a problem customer.
